My mother of 101 years has been living independently for many years but eventually, I had to choose a care home for her remaining years. Yaxley House is close to where I live, so was an obvious choice, which I am delighted to advise was all that I hoped for, for my mother. It was quite a stressful
time for her, to cope with the change of lifestyle but the staff have been so very helpful and caring and have been exemplary in helping over this difficult period. She is very happy in her new surroundings. I would recommend Yaxley House to anyone wishing to place an elderly relative in a caring and supportive environment.

The management and staff at Yaxley House have continued to provide a first-class service to the residents during these very challenging times. The residents appeared to have had a great Christmas, despite the fact visiting my relatives was extremely limited. The staff compensated for this and made sure
that presents delivered to the home were opened and providing assistance to those residents who needed it, both mentally and physically. The management team is doing an excellent job keeping the families updated on the current situation, keeping us informed on how our family members are doing and coping, and arranging video chats where possible, and sending out photos when the resident cannot engage in video chats (such as my mother). This is a great comfort as it is the only contact we can realistically have at the moment, having taken the decision not to go and see Mum until we have been vaccinated. I am very happy with how the home is coping and the care my mother is receiving.

My husband has been at Yaxley for 5-years with Dementia. It has been a journey that the care home has shared with me and my husband, so many twists and turns to this condition.
The care has been over the last year, in particular, amazing. Many strides forward and no stone left unturned during the challenging
times that Covid has thrown at us all.
My husband is safe and well cared for, the staff are empathetic to us both.
Thank you, Yaxley, and God Bless.

My Mother had been a resident for 6 and a half years. The home itself is a very comfortable cosy and family orientated place. It is well-presented and the standard of hygiene and care is excellent. The Manager and all the Care Staff are very professional. They have always treated my Mother with great
respect, kindness and most of all a total commitment to looking after her. Communication between the home and family has been excellent. Reviews are updated regularly and the manager always kept me informed and worked with me. The home has an Entertainment Coordinator who keeps residents happy by organising lots of different activities to accommodate individual needs as well as inviting various groups and artists to play at the home. The Chef and Catering staff produce nutritious and wholesome food with good selections to satisfy varying tastes and no matter what time of day, will always provide a cup of tea and a cake to lift spirits.

My mother is always happy and clean in appearance, with nice clothes on. Care is taken with every resident to keep them looking nice and individual. Time is spent on special things as well as essential things. Mum loves her nails painted!

My mother was only in the home for 2-3 weeks before everywhere went into lockdown which was an extremely worrying time for everyone, but the way all the staff have looked after mum and keep me informed and updated has made a terribly difficult time easier.

My mother-in-law moved to Yaxley House just before lockdown earlier this year. The staff have been fantastic. She settled in quickly and often sends us messages telling us how happy she is and how lovely everyone is. The regular newsletters are excellent and whenever we contact Yaxley House, whether,
by phone or email, we have had prompt and helpful replies. Staff have enabled Zoom calls which have been lovely. We feel very confident that my mother-in-law is receiving excellent care and that she is happy.

Choosing a care home is a difficult decision and based on factors unique to the person needing 24hr care. The past 2+ years has shown Yaxley House to be an excellent choice for my Mum. With a small number of residents, it is possible for all staff to get to know each person and the resulting care and
support is evidently personalised. Her care has been suitability adjusted, in collaboration with relatives, as Alzheimer’s progresses and needs change. The home is in a quiet location, peaceful and calm with a number of communal areas to sit. Furnishings are ‘homely’ with coordinated colours and styles; there are small touches such as flowers. All areas are very clean and smell fresh, with ongoing upkeep and maintenance evident. While still within the security of the home, my Mum can freely access a courtyard garden if she wants to go for a walk or sit outside. My mum views Yaxley as her home which I think is testament to the vision of staff that it is residents ‘home‘ not just somewhere to be cared for.

When visiting my uncle, I am very impressed to notice that there are always carers around, looking and checking on the residents.
There are plenty of places where they can go and sit.
This is a lovely home.

This is an excellent facility with a pleasant atmosphere and calm and helpful staff. The older part of the building is more cramped and confined, somewhat constrained by its traditional layout.

As all the residents here have dementia to a greater or lesser degree, this facility would not be suitable

for a non-dementia patient.

Otherwise, they do a grand job.

My brother has been in Yaxley House for 3 months. I have found the staff very capable, kind and caring. They meet all my brother's needs and go above and beyond their duties in not only caring for my brother but all the residents. They are approachable and helpful and always have time to listen and
give advice. A big thank you.

Yaxley House, the staff are all friendly and very caring.
The standard of cleanliness could be improved. Food looks good with specialist diets catered for.
My mother enjoys her home there. She feels safe and looked after.
I feel she is safe and her best interest are catered for.
There are staff
shortages at times but I don't feel she is at risk at these times.

I cannot be happier that my mum is here. From the moment she arrived, she's loved it and the staff has made us as a family so welcome that it's a pleasure to come and visit. Mum's dementia has improved so much since she's been here and I'm sure it's due to the commitment of the staff and the fact that
they give her so much attention.

This care home promised that they could meet my father's needs. They not only could not meet his needs, they weren't able to recognise when he was breathless and needed more urgent medical attention than the local doctor that attends once a week. They are short staffed, do not engage their residents
in any activities (with no activities coordinator) and there is a culture of not using common sense or being proactive in terms of changing needs or mood of residents. I would go to the extent of saying that staff are not trained sufficiently for their intended roles.
Reply from Paula Baker, Manager at Yaxley House Care HomeThese complaints were brought to my attention and l have thoroughly investigated them.
From the outcome, measures were put in place to address some of these concerns.
When discussed with the daughter she was happy with the measures put in place.
While we are currently recruiting an activities coordinator, existing staff do regular activities, walks in our grounds as well as music, art and craft activities and baking.
Visitors coming into the home often comment on how clean and fresh our home smells.
Professionals comment on our high standard of care and the skills our staff have with understanding our dementia residents. They also remark on how well we know our residents and how detailed our care plans are.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.481)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.481) out of 10 for Yaxley House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.656 for Yaxley House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (133 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 163 Ratings = 4.656
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Yaxley House Care Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have worked in Health and Social Care for over 20 years, with a background as a frontline paramedic working for the London Ambulance Service. I moved to Norfolk in 2018 and, in my role as Head of Urgent & Emergency Care with the ICB, worked closely with Social Care Commissioners to create smoother discharge pathways from hospitals, including commissioning of beds in Care Homes. I am passionate about delivering high-quality person-centred care to those I am blessed to look after, and also about developing and supporting my team through compassionate leadership. I am really excited to have joined the team at Yaxley House; everyone is so caring and compassionate about delivering person-centred care, and I have been made to feel like one of the family.

In my spare time, I am active in my local community as a Parish Councillor and Scout Leader. My husband and I enjoy sailing and spending time with friends and family. We also enjoy long walks with our 2-year-old Labrador, Nelson.

I have worked in a variety of care settings for 15 years before joining the Yaxley House team. I am passionate about providing excellent person-centred care for all residents, and I have a depth of knowledge to share with residents, families and staff. Yaxley House has a wonderfully warm environment, and the team are very welcoming to all. I currently spend my free time either exploring the Great British countryside or at home studying for my Health and Social Care degree.
