Reviews

8.2 Yaxley House has a Review Score of 8.2 (8.238)

The Review Score of 8.2 (maximum of 10) for Yaxley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Yaxley House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 3.9 for Yaxley House is calculated as follows: ( (35 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Poors x 2) + (5 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 3.9

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.338 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Yaxley House is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 3.75

    2. Target of 6.8 positive Reviews (34 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 4 Reviews ÷ 6.8 Target = 0.588

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

I cannot be happier that my mum is here. From the moment she arrived, she's loved it and the staff has made us as a family so welcome that it's a pleasure to come and visit. Mum's dementia has improved so much since she's been here and I'm sure it's due to the commitment of the staff and the fact that they give her so much attention.

Yaxley House itself is a little neglected, but the staff more than make up for it. They are very competent and friendly they all out their residents first with so much care and love. If we have any problems all the staff are very approachable from the manager to the kitchen staff.

My husband has been in this home since November, the care is excellent, he is now in bed 24 hours and the attention given is very good. He is always clean and tidy and when visiting, the carers come in very frequently to attend to his needs, drinks etc.

It is not an easy decision to put a loved one into residential care but my own physical/mental health was at risk as a sole carer. This has been "A Journey" ... at times heartbreaking, at times amusing, my husband has "challenging" behaviour and together the management of staff has been with my husband every step of the way. There is a myriad of emotions to deal with. The staff work and try hard, it is not a task for the faint-hearted.

This care home promised that they could meet my father's needs. They not only could not meet his needs, they weren't able to recognise when he was breathless and needed more urgent medical attention than the local doctor that attends once a week. They are short staffed, do not engage their residents in any activities (with no activities coordinator) and there is a culture of not using common sense or being proactive in terms of changing needs or mood of residents. I would go to the extent of saying that staff are not trained sufficiently for their intended roles.

Paula Baker, Manager at Yaxley House responded to this review on 23 Feb 2017:

These complaints were brought to my attention and l have thoroughly investigated them.
From the outcome, measures were put in place to address some of these concerns.
When discussed with the daughter she was happy with the measures put in place.
While we are currently recruiting an activities coordinator, existing staff do regular activities, walks in our grounds as well as music, art and craft activities and baking.
Visitors coming into the home often comment on how clean and fresh our home smells.
Professionals comment on our high standard of care and the skills our staff have with understanding our dementia residents. They also remark on how well we know our residents and how detailed our care plans are.
