As a professional care home entertainer with my wife, we see very many care homes and how residents are looked after. We have got to know the staff and management in many care homes across the UK so I can provide a very objective view of how Stokeleigh Lodge compares. Care homes vary widely in terms
of carer quality and management motivation.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Stokeleigh Lodge as the best I have witnessed in terms of care and attention to the residents. The number of residents is much lower than many large care homes which means the carers know all the residents very well. The location in one the best areas of Bristol and overlooking the Downs, as well as the ready access to a garden, are real benefits. Over the two years that my mother has been a resident there have been a couple of management changes but each time the level of hands-on care and information supplied to family has improved. I would not consider moving my mother to any other care home, this is a little gem

Not sure exactly how long the manager has managed StokeLeigh Lodge but since her arrival there has been a distinct improvement in the attempts to take my brother out and to really interesting places. Prior to this we were concerned that my brother appeared to have very little stimulation of any sort
and seemed to watch a lot of television. My brother has clearly enjoyed these outings plus other activities that the manager has introduced within the Home and appears to be benefiting greatly from them.

I found the manager, all carers and domestic staff helpful, caring, empathetic, cheerful, pro active and really good listeners, as well as hard working diligent in their roles. My brother settled in really well and told me he is happy, feels safe and it's working well for him. Staff are always available
for me to contact for any queries e.g about medication or hospital outpatient appointments. I appreciate this and so do all of our family.
General environment is pleasant, kept clean and my brother's room is always kept nicely when I regularly drop in unannounced. There are regular weekly and seasonal activities and celebrations. My brother enjoys the food there. I'm very happy that he has found a home at Stokeleigh Lodge Retirement Home and so are all his family.

Since the day my friend arrived at Stokeleigh Lodge Retirement Home Ltd he has had nothing but the finest care.
He has presented a lot of challenges and all have been dealt with well.
I have had two past experiences of care homes and this exceeds my expectations.
From the management to the staff
I really cannot fault them.
They all go over and above and as I live a long way away it's wonderful how I am kept up to date with everything.
I no longer worry about him as I know he is in safe hands.
You can see the staff really care and know the residents .
I cannot recommend this care home enough.

My mother was a resident for over three years. Throughout this period, she was treated with respect and kindness by the staff. She was bed-bound for the last 9-months of her life and was on end of life processes for the final two months. Her care was very attentive during this difficult period. My thanks
to the staff.

The staff are all very friendly and caring for the residents. The recent decorations and new furniture have given the home a much brighter outlook.

My mother has been resident since July 2016. I have been impressed by the kindness and professionalism of the management and staff. Working with people with dementia is challenging but the staff are cheerful and welcoming. You can visit unannounced any time and activities are good and varied. Regular
relatives' meetings are now being held.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.223)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.223) out of 10 for Stokeleigh Lodge Retirement Home Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.848 for Stokeleigh Lodge Retirement Home Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (40 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 46 Ratings = 4.848

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.375 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Stokeleigh Lodge Retirement Home Ltd is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 15 registered maximum number of service users is 3, which has been reached with 4 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
