We chose Katherine House because it offered Mum activities as well as the care and support she needed. The activity team has a diverse and imaginative programme of activities in which Mum can participate in or just be quiet if she wishes. They also do trips out in their minibus which is good for Mum because it gets her outside seeing different things and people.
All staff have been caring and supportive of Mum, being mindful of her wishes and dignity. They see her as a person rather than a resident.
If I have ever raised a question or query, staff have always acted upon it.
The home is clean, modern and airy. Meal times are companionable and sociable. Mum has a phone in her room, a TV, and her own belongings.

I am really grateful we found Katherine House.

Last week I joined the summer party in the grounds of Katherine and Griffiths House - this year the theme being An Afternoon at The Circus. I was unable to make lunch, but joined my former neighbour just as it was ending - an excellent spread served outdoors but under the gazebo. Pudding was my neighbour's favourite - tiramisu! We then had almost two hours of wonderful entertainment with everyone seated/turned around and easily able to enjoy the fun. There were two acts - a talented and very balletic performer on a rigid 'circus ring', and then 3 excellent dancers, all performing to lively circus and Old Time music. It was clear the Circus Afternoon would have required months of planning and logistical considerations. Many staff were dressed as clowns, circus performers and even a couple of Ring Masters - well done all of you. There was a lovely atmosphere, great fun and of course, a tombola! Thank you, everyone - it was a great success.

My Mum had been at a previous care home, but I felt that it wasn't a great fit. This Care Home was a complete contrast. The smaller home style setting suited Mum much better, and the real difference was the staff. I felt that they genuinely cared for Mum and that was a huge comfort over the months, particularly as Mum's dementia worsened. I knew she was safe and warm and that everyone at the home was doing their very best to keep her as well and engaged as possible in the circumstances. Staff sent regular email updates to keep us in the loop with how Mum had been in the week, which was particularly useful for my sister who lives abroad. It was lovely to hear positive stories of Mum interacting with staff and during activities.

As Mum entered end of life care, they went out of their way to ensure she didn't need to be moved, and was able to spend her last days peacefully and they really looked after me and my family too at a really difficult time for us.

The carer was assisting my sister with the lavatory and putting on my sister's coat to go for a walk in the garden, another resident was a little bit sick and the phone was ringing. The carer was on their own. They acted in a very calm and professional manner when surrounded by anxious residents and relatives. I now know how to put a coat on my sister without us both getting in a tangle. All the staff are very professional and treat the residents with dignity and respect.

I have been my grandma's carer for 3 and a half years, she is 93 and has been living independently until moving to Katherine House after having a fall and breaking her hip. She is very independent but since the fall, is using a frame to move around so living on her own was out of the question.
As a family we spent time researching homes all over Bristol and Bath, it was very disappointing until we came across Kathrine House.

The manager was amazing, she gave us all the time we needed when we went for a visit, with a full tour all questions answered. The home is lovely, welcoming, clean and smells fresh, the staff are amazing and everyone is so friendly. The residents are lovely and treated with total respect and the best care. The staff are so caring, giving the residents lots of time and help with anything they need. The food is of great quality. As a family, we are so relaxed knowing my grandma is in such fantastic care. If you're looking for a home definitely visit!

My father recently moved here after suffering a stroke. I cannot begin to explain the support and friendliness displayed from the team during these difficult times. Especially with COVID too!

Before Katherine House, my father was in a different care home in another part of the country which doesn’t hold a candle to Katherine House. (Despite being more expensive).

They communicate well with family member and include them where possible.

Since being at Katherine House my dad has progressed physically in addition to bettering his mental health.

The facilities at Katherine House are amazing and they actively try to support beyond basic needs.

I will forever be grateful for Katherine House and the team within for helping me get my happy dad back.

Poor manager. My Mum was thrown out by e-mail on a Friday night. Took the best part of 6 weeks to get monies refunded. Shambles. This place has really gone downhill but I would still like to sincerely thank some of the old staff.

Reply from Leanne Thorne, Manager at Katherine House

Sorry to hear the service you received did not meet the standard for your relative, we always comply when a relative instructs us to communicate via email only. Unfortunately, when residents remain in hospital, we always reassess them once they have had a stay in hospital as at times, their needs do change, so safety is paramount to us. I will pass on your lovely comments to the team.

Mum was determined to remain living independently, but she became too frail to do this safely. She moved into Katherine House the day after her 98th birthday. The transition wasn’t easy but Mum had exceptional support from the staff, above and beyond, what might have been expected. Six weeks after moving in Mum is beginning to thrive. She is enjoying the meals. Her mobility has improved. I saw her walk a distance today, more strongly, than she has been able to in a year. The afternoon activities not only occupy her but stimulate her too. Her mood has lifted. Mum has received high-quality medical and professional care which has improved the quality of her life but it’s the indefinable conscientious qualities of the staff of Katherine House that make such a difference. There has been a genuinely kind willingness to support Mum and to ensure all that could be done has been done to ensure her wellbeing. My experience of Katherine House is that there is energy and knowledgeable goodwill in abundance.

My mum needed to move into Katherine House 9 months ago. She was then 91 and getting frail. She took a bit of time to settle in but is now extremely happy there and sees it as her home. She appreciates the home-cooked food, the care she gets, and the company. She also comments on the comfort and convenience of her room, access to the library, and increasingly enjoys the activities that are laid on. Inevitably she worries about the money but now readily agrees that it is well spent. As a visitor, I am kept well informed and even during times of Covid. The grounds and buildings have a lovely inviting feel about them.

My aunt has been a resident at Katherine House for several years. During that time she has received the very best of care.
She is happy and enjoys the high quality of Katherine House and the excellent staff who are kind and attentive.
The food quality is very good and when she has requested any particular food item that is not on the menu it has invariably been happily provided.
Katherine House is always clean and completely odour free - something that can't be said of many care homes.
The staff are friendly, helpful and caring.
I know others who are or have been resident at Katherine House, all of whom have enjoyed it.

I would thoroughly recommend Katherine House to anyone seeking a happy, warm and caring home for themselves or a member of their family.

My mother has been a resident for almost seven years. The staff have done everything they can to make it a happy and safe place to live in. All her needs are provided for. Her room is cleaned regularly. The privacy of an en suite wet room is perfect for her needs. The room is a reasonable size and accommodates some of her own furniture. There is a television and also a private telephone line. She has her own pictures on the wall. Breakfast is served in her room and other meals in the dining room, but they can be saved in her room if needed. The staff have been very caring over the last year, and we had to leave very much up to them as we were unable to visit in the home. However, video calling was set up and a sealed room has been established for visiting. The grounds are lovely, and we cannot wait to get outside again and sit in the sun with Mum. The staff, the well-being team, the cooks and the cleaners are all amazing. Thank you.

For all independent people moving into a care home can be a major challenge. Katherine House staff manage this transition on behalf of its new residents in a friendly and welcoming manner. The whole team is highly professional and after one year my Mother now feels safe and 'at home'. I have nothing but praise for the entire team - and especially their kindness and resilience throughout the current pandemic which has been kept at bay by their hard work and dedication.

This is home to 40 people - a real home. Residents are encouraged to make friends and join in everything on offer. The offer is very broad and well-considered. Staff at the home have made many contacts with outside organisations and charities that assist in improving the lives of residents in the home. Many activities are provided each day. The day is exceptionally well structured and all residents are treated as individuals with a high degree of independence. Whilst my uncle has slowly deteriorated in his capacity to make decisions, he has improved in many other ways since he started living in his ‘new home’. He is more mobile, he has more friends and close companies, he is more engaged in activity and creativity and he is more outspoken on all issues relating to older people in care. I know it’s difficult and expensive but broadening opportunities after dinner in the evening would be beneficial to some residents.

My mum has been a resident at Katherine House for over 4 years now and I cannot recommend this home highly enough. If our family have any concerns regarding Mum's health then we know it will be acted on quickly. Staff really seem to enjoy working in the home and care for the residents. They seem to have a genuine affection for Mum, pay her compliments when she has had her hair done or she is wearing something new or different.
Safeguarding could have been an issue due to Mum's divorce but we were always reassured the correct procedures were in place to ensure it was carried out as requested.

Afternoon activities are always available for all residents which are varied and suit all types of abilities and needs. Mum attends these which has included external visits to local sites and attractions.

The care given to my Mum is exemplary. Very professional, caring and stimulating. The staff are very patient and kind.
The home is purpose built for residents living with dementia. It is very light and airy, furnished to a high standard which makes it a very comfortable place to live. There is access to a lovely patio area which has raised flowerbeds and plenty of places to sit.
A daily programme of activities is designed for the residents to join in if they choose to.

We as a family highly recommend the care home.
