Overall Experience
Generally, Katherine House is a good institution. It is pleasant to visit and the staff are friendly, caring and nice. My mother has been there for three years and feels that she is in the best place. Her only real complaint is the food. You would have to judge for yourself. The rooms vary a bit in size and outlook, with the ones at the back getting the sunset view and on the ground floor direct access to the terrace but they possibly get a bit hot in the summer.
I feel the staff and management do try and make a difference.
Locally there are some large grounds just above Katherine House which some residents visit and I take my mum in her wheelchair which is a nice convenient excursion, albeit there is a fairly steep climb. The Downs are also quite handy.

Parking is easy, I don't think there has ever been a time with no space available.

The location of the care home is excellent in that it is in a peaceful setting within its own grounds but very accessible by public transport. It was also important to us that it is a charity and not privately run for profit. Approaching the building, it has been very sympathetically built for its surroundings. It is single story and has been well designed using low impact materials and colours. Inside, the striking feature is the amount of natural light which has a calming effect. Large windows in the walls and the ceiling which let the daylight flood in. It is nicely open planned, and very pleasing furniture and colour schemes. It has been clearly well thought out.

It was important to us and my aunt that she would be safe and cared for in a home. The care home provides that in very nice and comfortable surroundings. The staff are always on hand and keep us informed.

Hillman said that “old age is not just a preparation for death, it is a phase of life in its own right”. At the care home, the managers are successfully pursuing a vision of community which, coupled with the care and patience of the staff enables this to be a place in which my mother’s closing years can be a creative opportunity for connection and communication, not just a waiting room. When looking for a place for my mother I talked to friends working in the caring professionals who have worked shifts in care homes all over Bristol, and Katherine&Griffiths House were consistently highly recommended.

Katherine House provides comfortable, purpose-built accommodation for older adults.
It is a light and airy building which is very well maintained.
The atmosphere in Katherine House is a positive one and this is achieved by the warm, cheery, can do attitudes of most of the staff who work there.
The care is very person-centred and flexible.
There is an activities programme which provides a range of stimulating events which are organised by an enthusiastic team.
My mother’s quality of life has greatly improved since moving there.
Staff are approachable and I feel they genuinely do their best for the residents.

Their willingness and efforts to get to work during bad weather were impressive. No agency staff are used which means residents receive continuity of care from care staff who know them

My Mum is 94 and has been at Katherine House for three months. Everyone here has been friendly and approachable. My Mum says that the staff are kind and helpful. There is a relaxed, calm atmosphere with comfortable lounges and a bright, airy dining room. Mum enjoys the meals.

Every day there is an organised activity which residents can attend if they wish. There are visiting PAT dogs each week which are very much appreciated. We really enjoyed the Royal Wedding Garden Party and look forward to the next party. Katherine House is very homely and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it.

Suffice to say that if I am ever at a stage of life that I need to go into a residential care home I would have no hesitation in becoming a resident at this excellent care home. The home is a modern building with good facilities. It is light and spacious and located in a very quiet area with lovely gardens to walk around if fit to do so. The staff are very good and caring and social entertainment activities are provided daily.

My father was resident at Katherine House from the age of 89 until he died at the age of 93.
He was extremely well looked after by the staff. I was always impressed by all levels of management at Katherine House and he was very happy and fond of all the staff who cared for him.

His room was very pleasant and the home is set in a very attractive environment in a lovely part of the city.

My mother spent her last three years at Katherine House
We found the home to be very well run.
All staff showed genuine kindness and care, to the extent that several felt like friends.

There is as much activity as the resident desires and warm human contact so that I always felt confident that my mother was as happy and safe as possible.

My mother is so happy and content at Katherine House. The staff look after her really well- chatting to her and cheering her up. I visit mum 2/3 times a week. I am free to visit anytime and this is indicative of what a well run, clean, lovely place it is. I have never smelt that awful smell often associated with old people's homes. The staff take a pride in keeping the home and residents clean and looked after. During the week there are plenty of activities to stimulate and interest the residents. I would thoroughly recommend Katherine House to anyone who wants a well run, caring home for their loved ones when they are unable to maintain and run their own home.

Mama has been in Katherine house for nearly two years. I live overseas and am at ease every time I leave as the staff are all so caring and helpful.

I sometimes have lunch or tea here which is well presented and quite tasty. Only one time recently the expected fish fingers turned out to be a rather difficult to cut fish cake.... But mama enjoys her food and her weight has kept steady.

Christmas was very well done, with lovely decorations and the staff were really in the spirit. Well done all of you!

In the springtime and summer the outside terrace is lovely for the residents to get fresh air. Mama's favourite place. The surroundings are really lovely with all the trees in the background.

Well done also for the Daily activities, quite a variety although Mama loves her siesta !

Keep up the good work !

My Father resided at Katherine House from October 2012 until his death in July 2015 and my Mother was there from July 2013 until her death in February 2014. Both were looked after superbly. I cannot fault the care they received or the kindness of the staff.
From the manager down all the staff carried out their duties to a high standard.
The cleanliness of the home, the catering and facilities are second to none.

I am so pleased and grateful that we chose Katherine House for my Parents final years as I know they were happy and felt safe.
