The Grove Residential Home first opened in 1990 and has been providing exceptional care ever since. Occupying a beautifully restored 19th century coach house, the home is situated in the heart of the charming South Gloucestershire village of Winterbourne, where it enjoys an outstanding local reputation.

The Grove has a dementia friendly enclosed courtyard, 1950s themed hairdressers, access to an innovative Memory Lane, along with beautiful homely communal spaces and a great reputation for first class dementia care.

My mum moved into the Grove a few months ago. The staff I met both before and since she moved in have been amazing and were a big part of choosing the home and how well mum has settled in. They all have such a positive attitude, you can tell they genuinely care about each resident and adapt the care
and activities to suit. The home is always clean when I visit. If mum has a problem, the GP is called promptly and they keep me informed. Although it is a smaller home than some, the separate lounges give residents different areas to relax in and there always seems to be a lot going on. They take trips out to local events and put on events in support local and national charities, which the residents love. I am so grateful for how well they look after mum and how safe she is at The Grove.

My Auntie really didn't want to leave her home and go into a care home, but the staff have helped her to settle really well. They have encouraged her out of her bedroom and she is socialising really well, thus combating the isolation and loneliness she felt previously. The staff are attentive to her
needs and nothing is too much trouble. It is very clean and tidy. She loves sitting in the garden and they always have snacks available including fruit. They have been outstanding at taking my Auntie out including going to church services, which is important for her. We really have nothing to fault + we're so pleased we found this home.

All staff maintain their serenity at all times. They are extremely friendly to all residents, guests and colleagues, emotionally aware and affectionate in an entirely appropriate manner. I'm delighted to entrust my father's care to each and every one of them. The communal spaces are light and airy,
attractively decorated and very comfortable. A wide variety of activities is organised focussing on stimulation, fun, inclusion or the boosting of self-esteem. I appreciate it's an expensive business but prices in this country are, frankly, outrageous. The expression 'fleeced' comes to mind.

My mum recently passed away following 4 years at The Grove, she had severe dementia and could barely communicate. She arrived at The Grove during the Pandemic Lockdown and initially isolated herself in her bedroom. One of the carers was fantastic with her and encouraged her to go downstairs and integrate
with the other residents. Although my mum's dementia didn't improve her general wellbeing improved massively. She was much happier and went from always being in her room to spending all of her time downstairs watching what was happening and enjoying the activities even though she couldn't take part herself. All of the staff were supportive and encouraging. When my my mum became very ill in November 2024, the carer once again was fantastic looking after her needs and providing comfort and care at the end of her life. Thank you to this carer and all the staff who helped through her last years.

Mum has been a resident here for over two years. In that time she has become very fond of the excellent staff who care for her. My impression is that The Grove is well run with an adequate number of staff, who all act professionally. They treat the residents with kindness and respect. There is, however, a problem with the clothing situation. Laundry is outsourced to another company but frequently Mum's clothing goes missing
(even though all labelled clearly as requested by management). The system in place seems complicated around laundry between The Grove and the company the laundry is outsourced to. The prospectus, before COVID, included minibus trips. It would be great if these could be restarted. Currently, expansion of The Grove is proceeding with a presumed increase in number of residents. Communal rooms are pretty small currently - are there plans to increase these?

Mum has been a resident here for over 3 years and I can honestly say they have been very happy ones!
Nothing is too much trouble when looking after the residents at The Grove and I do feel Mum's welfare is always put first. We are always made to feel very welcome when visiting or taking Mum out, even
at short notice.
Mum's room is spotless and kept very clean and tidy as is the rest of the communal areas.
There are always activities that residents can be involved in and music is regularly played which Mum loves and often sings along with.
The Grove was our first choice when looking for somewhere for Mum and we are so glad she has settled in so well
and really feels at home there.

My Dad has been a resident of The Grove since January 2023 and I have been a regular visitor since then. I cannot commend highly enough the care and support that my Dad has continued to receive. I am always updated on any changes to his care plan by the management team. I have got to know many members
of staff over the last 15 months. I have the utmost respect for their joyful interaction with the residents and the dedicated care they provide. The family were amazed when I circulated a video of my Dad singing and dancing to live music, something he hasn't done in a long while! The Grove was recommended to me when his dementia meant his needs and behaviour could not be managed at home. It was absolutely the right choice.

We had a very enjoyable day at the care home. They had arranged a Halloween party. Most of the people joined in the festivities there was music and dancing and those who couldn't get up to dance just sat and clapped and enjoyed the music. Later on, there was a singer to entertain everyone he was very
good at getting the residents to join in with the singing. The staff were marvellous in encouraging the residents to join in. The staff all joined in as well to make a most enjoyable day. We went home happy and content that our sister was happy and well looked after.

The door was opened with a wonderful smile and I was shown inside. Things were going on and music was playing in the background. Residents and staff were engaging and they were getting ready for their seasonal party. There was a lovely energy. The staff weren't too busy as they passed to say hello and
refreshments were offered.

Mum came to stay at The Grove towards the end of the Covid pandemic. She was in the early stages of dementia, confused and in poor health. Now her general health is much improved, she is settled and very happy with the excellent care she receives. The staff are warm and friendly so as a visitor I am
made to feel welcome when I visit. Overall I feel confident that Mum is looked after very well in a clean, comfortable home by people who know her and care about her.

Ana Rita

Ana Rita Martins

Ana Rita leads The Grove with drive and enthusiasm to offer a unique residential setting for those living with dementia. Ana Rita’s passion to work with residents and create a home from home has seen the smooth implementation of Allegra Care’s Household Model at The Grove, further enhancing residents’ quality of life.


The decision to embark on a career in social care was made after Ana Rita cared for her grandparents, both of whom were diagnosed with dementia. Ana took time to educate herself about dementia and how she could best support them. After Ana Rita's grandparents passed away, she moved to the UK and started working in a nursing home. Ana Rita joined Olive Tree House when it first opened in 2016. Ana Rita's career quickly progressed from care assistant to team leader, as she completed her NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Adult Social Care. Four years ago, Ana Rita became the Trainee Deputy Manager of Olive Tree House, completing the NVQ Level 5 in Management and Leadership in Social Care. She then went on to become the Deputy Manager of Rose Garden, the group's sister homes.

Having dedicated her career to working with the elderly, specialising in dementia care The Grove are delighted to have Angela onboard as Deputy Manager. Angela has worked with Allegra Care for over five years at Rose Garden.


Angela supports residents with compassion and ensuring their well-being is at the heart of her role. Angela thrives working with a team to do all she can to create a positive and caring environment for staff and residents alike; all to ensure The Grove really is a home from home.


Angela is keen to build on her experience and will be taking on further studying to enhance her professional development.

Anita

Anita

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2023

Anita joined The Grove team in 2023 as part of the housekeeping team, she left her position as a carer in another local home as she needed more regular hours to be able to care for her own mother. When the Activities Coordinator role became available Antia jumped at the opportunity, bringing her experience to enhance the lives of the home’s residents with new ideas for activities and events.


Anita has had a varied career from working in pubs to prisons, but her love of care started when she worked as a rehabilitation carer at Frenchay Hospital’s Brain Injury Centre. This role gave Anita a real insight into all aspects of care including working with psychologists.


Outside of work, Anita enjoys spending time with her mum as well as being a carer for her, she also enjoys relaxing with a good book and spending time socialising with friends.

Raph

Raph

Job Title: Administrator Joined: 2022

After graduating in 2022 from Bournemouth University with a degree in HR Management and Business Raph decided to take some time off, but that didn’t last long, Raph found out about the receptionist position at Blossom Fields and was working there by the end of the year!


Raph’s skills and knowledge led him to become the home’s administrator soon after starting work at Blossom Fields and now he is responsible for The Grove’s administration as well.


Raph finds his role fulfilling and loves working in the care home environment and the values that go with that. Raph works closely with Saba the Blossom Fields’ receptionist to keep the two busy homes in order.


In his free time, Raph enjoys spending time with family and friends and loves being outdoors. Raph greatly enjoys visiting historical sites, history has been a personal passion for as long as he can remember.

Paul

Paul Thomas

Job Title: Regional Manager - Western Region Joined: 2025

Paul has joined Allegra Care with 27 years’ experience in the health and social care sector, including working in senior leadership roles for the last 18 years, covering operations, business management and quality assurance. Paul has a real passion for person-centred care and how that is delivered at the highest level.


Paul has worked across a diverse sector over his time in health and social care and brings a wealth of experience to his new role as Regional Manager. Paul believes in integrating real and meaningful values and culture into a service and in doing so, delivering the outcomes for the people we support. Paul goes by the theory of values with no meaning, which has no value.


Outside of work, Paul is the father of three boys and a 2nd degree black belt who teaches Judo.

Catherine

Catherine Crawshaw

Job Title: Regional Resident Liaison Manager – Western Region Joined: 2024

Catherine has worked in sales and marketing her whole career, after graduating with a degree in Textile Management she worked in Corporate Workwear for many years. Catherine’s first role in the care sector was working with a disability charity that ran nursing homes and enablement projects for young adults. While her two children were younger, she joined her husband in his estate agency, but was delighted to return to the care sector in 2020 and now cannot imagine doing anything else.


Catherine’s role with Allegra is to support residents and their families as they explore care options. Working with the teams in the individual homes she ensures that during every stage from initial enquiry through to moving in with us every question is answered, and we offer the reassurance needed for the next chapter in our resident’s life. It is important for our residents to remain part of the community in which will have lived for years, often all their lives, so the other part of this role is connecting with local community groups, charities and organisations.


Catherine has said that working for Allegra with their groundbreaking household model means we are offering a home with compassion and care whilst ensuring residents are retaining their independence and quality of life.


Out of work, Catherine enjoys baking, gardening and walking the family Labrador. The children are older now, but still keep her busy!
