My impression is that The Grove is well run with an adequate number of staff, who all act professionally. They treat the residents with kindness and respect. There is, however, a problem with the clothing situation. Laundry is outsourced to another company but frequently Mum's clothing goes missing (even though all labelled clearly as requested by management). The system in place seems complicated around laundry between The Grove and the company the laundry is outsourced to. The prospectus, before COVID, included minibus trips. It would be great if these could be restarted. Currently, expansion of The Grove is proceeding with a presumed increase in number of residents. Communal rooms are pretty small currently - are there plans to increase these?

Reply from Helen Jones, C E O at The Grove

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, we really appreciate it. I will ask the Manager to speak with you and investigate the laundry situation and I do apologise for any inconvenience. We are not expanding The Grove, rather the work on the building is about replacing the...

Mum has been a resident here for over 3 years and I can honestly say they have been very happy ones!
Nothing is too much trouble when looking after the residents at The Grove and I do feel Mum's welfare is always put first. We are always made to feel very welcome when visiting or taking Mum out, even at short notice.
Mum's room is spotless and kept very clean and tidy as is the rest of the communal areas.
There are always activities that residents can be involved in and music is regularly played which Mum loves and often sings along with.
The Grove was our first choice when looking for somewhere for Mum and we are so glad she has settled in so well
and really feels at home there.

Thank you to everyone for their hard work and care, it really does show and makes a difference.

My Dad has been a resident of The Grove since January 2023 and I have been a regular visitor since then. I cannot commend highly enough the care and support that my Dad has continued to receive. I am always updated on any changes to his care plan by the management team. I have got to know many members of staff over the last 15 months. I have the utmost respect for their joyful interaction with the residents and the dedicated care they provide. The family were amazed when I circulated a video of my Dad singing and dancing to live music, something he hasn't done in a long while! The Grove was recommended to me when his dementia meant his needs and behaviour could not be managed at home. It was absolutely the right choice.

Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at The Grove

Hello, thank you for sharing such a great memory of your Dad's enjoyment of the live music. The Grove always feels like you're in a friend's home, it's such a warm happy home, led by a compassionate manager and filled with colleagues who love what they do and the residents they serve. I'm delighted that your Dad is one of them, thank you for selecting our home.

The door was opened with a wonderful smile and I was shown inside. Things were going on and music was playing in the background. Residents and staff were engaging and they were getting ready for their seasonal party. There was a lovely energy. The staff weren't too busy as they passed to say hello and refreshments were offered.

I must say a huge thank you for making me so welcome it was so nice to see everyone co producing and supporting each other.

Mum came to stay at The Grove towards the end of the Covid pandemic. She was in the early stages of dementia, confused and in poor health. Now her general health is much improved, she is settled and very happy with the excellent care she receives. The staff are warm and friendly so as a visitor I am made to feel welcome when I visit. Overall I feel confident that Mum is looked after very well in a clean, comfortable home by people who know her and care about her.

My mum moved to The Grove in December 2022. It was a huge upheaval for her and also all the family members. All the staff made it as smooth a transition as possible, from allowing us to make her room as homely as possible and gaining as much background information about her as they could. This allows the staff to give that much-needed person-centred care.
They have really made the home as much of a second home for us as a family by allowing us to visit whenever we wish.

I know as a daughter how difficult it is to make that difficult decision when choosing a home for a loved one but The Grove really gives you that comfort and peace of mind knowing your loved one is safe and being well cared for which is all down to the manager and her hard working dedicated team.

My dad has been a resident of The Grove Care Home for dementia on a respite placement following a family crisis. It hasn’t been easy for Dad, with a change of environment and the challenges his dementia can bring.

I cannot express how grateful we are, as a family, for the level of service and professionalism that both Dad and the family have received from the team at The Grove. We have been welcomed at any time and find the environment bright, caring and homely. It's never an issue to discuss Dad with carers and management which has given us the reassurance that he is receiving the best care possible.

My mum is happy here and I like the fact that there is always staff around, who are friendly and caring. It's really good that there are a variety of rooms for residents to use, the music room seems to be a favourite for several of the residents.

Ana Rita leads The Grove with drive and enthusiasm to offer a unique residential setting for those living with dementia. Ana Rita’s passion to work with residents and create a home from home has seen the smooth implementation of Allegra Care’s Household Model at The Grove, further enhancing residents’ quality of life.

The decision to embark on a career in social care was made after Ana Rita cared for her grandparents, both of whom were diagnosed with dementia. Ana took time to educate herself about dementia and how she could best support them. After Ana Rita's grandparents passed away, she moved to the UK and started working in a nursing home. Ana Rita joined Olive Tree House when it first opened in 2016. Ana Rita's career quickly progressed from care assistant to team leader, as she completed her NVQ Levels 2 and 3 in Adult Social Care. Catherine’s role with Allegra is to support residents and their families as they explore care options. Working with the teams in the individual homes she ensures that during every stage from initial enquiry through to moving in with us every question is answered, and we offer the reassurance needed for the next chapter in our resident’s life. It is important for our residents to remain part of the community in which will have lived for years, often all their lives, so the other part of this role is connecting with local community groups, charities and organisations.
