Philiphaugh Manor is one of the finest retirement homes in Cornwall, dedicated to providing quality living for ladies and gentlemen.

Philiphaugh Manor is an outstanding, newly refurbished Grade II listed building dating back to 1893. The home provides a tranquil, relaxing and spacious environment within beautiful grounds, with the benefits of assistance as needed from a trained and friendly care team.

Philiphaugh Manor has provided high quality residential care for the elderly since the 1980s. The home, standing in its own spacious landscaped gardens, is within walking distance of the main shops and banks of St Columb Major. It is only 4 miles from Newquay Airport and just a short drive from the main A30.

There are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and gardens, with paths offering a safe environment for walking. There are numerous secluded areas in which to relax and enjoy the abundant flora and fauna. The home has wireless emergency pendants that work throughout the grounds, so residents will always be able to call for help if needed.

The refurbishment, modernisation and complete renaissance of Philiphaugh Manor, to the AbleCare 5 Star quality rating, is already well under way. Both stylish and thoughtful in design, the new Show Suite, with en-suite bathroom and wide screen TV, will be coming soon. Courtyard suites and Penthouse rooms will also be available soon.

Be the first to reserve a room from the first phase of refurbishment. To hear about new rooms as they’re released please either email or call now and book a free taster day.

Since my mum has been here, she has been better in her health and mind. Staff have been kind and treat her with dignity at all times. We have been so happy because Mum is happy and very settled. I can approach any of your staff and they are very approachable and always willing to help if they can.

My uncle is very settled and happy at Philiphaugh, which is lovely to see, and I am very grateful to all the staff there. I watch him interact with the staff and can see that they really do understand his needs. His room is spacious and always warm. Whilst I do not see the food at the home I have given
a high score as my uncle tells me how much he enjoys his meals.

My brother has not lived at home with his wife for two years. For the first eight months he was either in hospital or in a home in another town. Philiphaugh is the only place he has been settled. He has never asked to be taken home and is happy with the food and all the staff there. The building is
sad and does need updating, but the staff are wonderful and to the family this is what we care about for him more than any posh building.

I was quite apprehensive of my mother entering a care home, however, my first thoughts and feelings of Philiphaugh Manor was what a nice atmosphere, immediately quelling my anxiety. Greeted by a senior member of staff who was very welcoming, sympathetic and optimistic. I felt reassured. The room my
mother occupies is warm, clean and suitable for her. Every time we visit, the staff are very friendly and helpful and my mum said she couldn't be happier. She has only been there a month and I am reassured she is being looked after very well but very nice competent staff.

My mum has lived at Philiphaugh for 2 years. She is very settled now. She likes all the staff and says they are nice. I know my mum is happy here as she is always happy and settled when I see her. The staff are well trained, knowledgeable, and kind. They are always happy to chat and tell me how Mum
is doing. They listen to my thoughts about my mum’s care. It would be great if they could get someone to take the residents out in the minibus again, now the weather is improving.

When we visit my sister at Philiphaugh Manor, the staff are always pleasant and welcoming. Staff are very tentative, they sit and chat with residents and take care of all their needs. My sister's room is good, it has a TV, large window, en-suite and is always clean and tidy.

A lady who I care for came to Philliphaugh for respite in June 2023.
The manager and all the staff are absolutely lovely and really do care for the ladies and gentlemen. Nothing is too much trouble and will help you and accommodate you in any way they can.
The home itself is a lovely building, the
rooms are quite big with en-suites for the people staying.
Plenty of activities my lady had her nails painted her hair was always nice in a ponytail or plated which looked lovely.
Visiting is great you get to spend time in their room if you wish or any of the communal rooms, the food looked lovely (made me hungry) and my lady enjoyed it all. Especially in the afternoon when a nice cup of tea came and a delightful lady had a selection of buns.
I can’t rank the staff high enough, very caring and helpful.
Thank you all so very much 10 stars are not enough that’s for sure.

When you enter Philiphaugh you are immediately struck by its warm and homely atmosphere - it feels cosy and the staff seem to be genuinely kind and friendly. I cannot get my mother's opinion, as she has severe dementia, however, she never seems to want to leave after her respite stays. I think she probably
prefers Philiphaugh to her own home! Other nursing homes we have tried have felt too clean, too clinical and too sterile. Philiphaugh does not feel like this at all - it feels like a proper home from home. I wish we could afford for Mum to live there all of the time!

My mum is comfortable and happy with Philiphaugh Manor and I feel she is well looked after, receiving good care as part of the family of residents. The recent painting throughout Philiphaugh Manor really makes it look brighter and smart. Communication with staff about Mums health is food and I feel
that Mum is in a caring and comfortable setting receiving the care it was impossible to provide in her home.

My mother has been well looked after for two years to date. Covid-19 care was excellent throughout the pandemic, and precautions are still in place. Slightly chaotic housekeeping at times, resulting in clothes being lost, although clearly marked with a name.

We chose Philiphaugh Manor for my mum as it has a homely feel. The staff are very patient with mum who has dementia and can be very difficult. Her room is always clean and adapted over the years to her needs! The whole building has been having an ongoing program of improvements which have greatly enhanced
its appeal. I would have no hesitation in recommending Philiphaugh Manor.

My mother has been a resident at Philiphaugh Manor since February 2021. I was initially very nervous as she was placed there on release from the hospital, but I have nothing but praise for the staff and the home. They are unfailingly kind, pleasant and respectful of my mother, who has dementia and other
physical problems. She enjoys the company of other residents, the food, her room, the activities and the facilities. She and her room are always clean, and she is always well dressed. Philiphaugh is an hour's drive away from me, and I wish I could see her more often, but she likes it there so much, she doesn't want to move!

My mother was transferred from another care home where the owner there couldn't handle her 'lively' nature and found her too much 'trouble', but I must say that since she has been at Philiphaugh Manor I cannot praise the staff there enough. She enjoys her time there and she also cannot say enough about
them. They are always pleasant courteous and we are always kept informed of their intentions before any important actions are carried out. I would highly recommend Philiphaugh and their staff to any potential families that are considering placing their relatives there on a permanent basis or for respite. Well done Philiphaugh.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.324)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.324) out of 10 for Philiphaugh Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.624 for Philiphaugh Manor is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.624
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Philiphaugh Manor is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
