Philiphaugh Manor is one of the finest retirement homes in Cornwall, dedicated to providing quality living for ladies and gentlemen.

Philiphaugh Manor is an outstanding, newly refurbished Grade II listed building dating back to 1893. The home provides a tranquil, relaxing and spacious environment within beautiful grounds, with the benefits of assistance as needed from a trained and friendly care team.

Philiphaugh Manor has provided high quality residential care for the elderly since the 1980s. The home, standing in its own spacious landscaped gardens, is within walking distance of the main shops and banks of St Columb Major. It is only 4 miles from Newquay Airport and just a short drive from the main A30.

There are magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and gardens, with paths offering a safe environment for walking. There are numerous secluded areas in which to relax and enjoy the abundant flora and fauna. The home has wireless emergency pendants that work throughout the grounds, so residents will always be able to call for help if needed.

The refurbishment, modernisation and complete renaissance of Philiphaugh Manor, to the AbleCare 5 Star quality rating, is already well under way. Both stylish and thoughtful in design, the new Show Suite, with en-suite bathroom and wide screen TV, will be coming soon. Courtyard suites and Penthouse rooms will also be available soon.

Be the first to reserve a room from the first phase of refurbishment. To hear about new rooms as they’re released please either email or call now and book a free taster day.

My husband went into this home for four nights respite care whilst I had a much-needed break. Unfortunately, he had a urine infection which the person in charge did not detect or do anything about. He got very confused and when I came to collect him I was made aware by one particular 'carer' that she
found him to be too much trouble. All in all a very unpleasant experience!

There were no bathing facilities for 5 months but these were resolved following an email to the director. Laundry facilities are adequate but any white pants/vests soon became pink!! I now wash my mother's skirts and cardigans as would be spoilt! Issues over hairdressing facilities, now have hair salon
but water pressure poor so awaiting new pressurised hot water system. Care home would benefit from the care home manager coming out of the office and working with carers, sometimes unaware of what is happening.

Any establishment is only as good as the staff, at Philiphaugh Manor they excel in every aspect of care given to my mother-in-law. They all perform at times, extremely upsetting duties, with great patience and understanding. In our view, they cannot be bettered and are greatly appreciated.

I find the staff extremely helpful always and since being in this home she has become happier in herself, much less stressed and very well fed.
I am kept informed of any issues and there is always someone on hand should I need any advice. Thank you.

A very close friend of mine has been a resident at Philiphaugh for a year now. I have been very impressed by the care she has received. Lately, she has not been well and both the staff and those who manage the home could not have been more attentive to her condition and her needs. I've also been grateful
for their readiness to listen to my concerns and suggestions during this time.

All staff members 9management and carers) are pleasant, helpful and friendly carers, showing consideration to Mum's needs, including personal care ii.e., hair wash, bath etc. Her room is spacious and clean, as are all common used areas. Food provided is nutritious and meet dietary requirements. All
visitors, family and friends are always welcomed.

A lovely old house perfect for its use.
Mother on respite from Falmouth Hospital such a great family orientated place.
The staff (mostly) being members of the same family an excellent working environment, a lot of other homes do not have. Very quiet and relaxed atmosphere most of the time. Have been
so pleasantly surprised of the care by the staff excellent.
Overall very happy with my mum respiting there they cannot do enough for her. Thank you so much mum very happy.

My mother went to Phliphaugh after been in the hospital for four weeks and was rather traumatised after her stay there. After a couple of weeks, she was back to her normal self.

My mother has been in there 16 weeks and now is looking better than ever. So thanks to the staff for all the care she

has received.

I would like to thank all the staff for the wonderful way they looked after my Father. They are very caring and compassionate. The home is more like a lovely hotel rather than a home. It has changed my outlook on homes. If I ever have to go into a home I sincerely hope it is like Philipaugh Manor. I
cannot praise this home enough, from the facilities and staff 10 out of 10.

My Mum was in the care of the fantastic staff at Philiphaugh on several occasions over the last 2 years whilst my husband and I had some respite breaks. In the last few months Mum became needier and beyond the care that we could give her at home, and so we had a difficult decision to make. However,
that decision was made so much easier knowing that she would be in the care of the staff at Philiphaugh Manor whom I cannot praise highly enough.
Sadly Mum passed away on November 7th. I knew that the staff were caring and kind, but in her last 2 days of life, I witnessed their extraordinary care and attention, not just to Mum but also to me, for which I am so grateful.

We will always remember your kindness to Mum and a 'thank you' seems inadequate, but it comes from our hearts and with our love and gratitude.

My mother moved in December 2016. Since we have found she is a lot better and happy. I am sure it is down to the care at Philiphaugh, the staff are fantastic in looking after her needs (though she can be stubborn). Three good meals a day, warm and comfortable

My cousin has been living at Philiphaugh Manor for almost a year.
She is 89 years old and suffering from dementia but is physically quite fit.
She settled in very quickly and wishes to stay in her new home.
She has a lovely bedroom but likes to spend most of her time downstairs because she enjoys
the company.

Mum has been in Philiphaugh Manor for just over two months. Something she never wanted but was inevitable after the decline in her health. Since the start of her stay, she has been treated by all the staff with honesty, dignity and respect. She has a large, light room and I was encouraged to personalise
this as much as I wanted enabling Mum to be surrounded by familiar items. She has a favourite chair, throws, family pictures and ornaments. All the regular meals are well prepared and a good choice is offered and mum never goes hungry - quite the opposite! I visit at all different times and I'm always made very welcome.

Staff are generally always available and helpful. Home is reasonably well decorated and furnished, although some modernisation may be recommended. Environment is friendly and the atmosphere pleasantly warm. Mealtimes are regular and overall the menu, quality of food and service is very good. The care
given meets my relatives needs and the staff are helpful and friendly. The manager is a lovely lady and has always seen through my requests and recommendation.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.324)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.324) out of 10 for Philiphaugh Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.624 for Philiphaugh Manor is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.624
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Philiphaugh Manor is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
