I would like to thank Nigel and the excellent team at Westlands for the wonderful care that my mother and stepfather receive. The warm and caring atmosphere at the home with lots of activities and social contact available is just what my mother enjoys. From visiting alpacas and musicians, to visits to local cafes, as well as indoor activities, there is lots of stimulation provided, tailored to residents' needs.

The care staff are always kind and considerate. Senior care staff are always available to discuss concerns and I have always felt a partner in mum's care. Manager Alison is very professional and supportive to residents and family members. Times of celebration are always welcomed as an opportunity for activities and togetherness. Meals are a happy occasion and residents enjoy their food. My father's medical needs have been addressed very well by the home and he has been much reassured by the attention to medication and liaison with staff nurse and doctor. Thank you Westlands!

Firstly I would like to thank all of the staff and management of Westlands for looking after my mother for the last four years of her life. Mum's room was pleasant, the food was good and the communal areas spacious and nicely decorated. The most important feature though is that staff are caring and meet the needs of the residents. Westlands staff manage to provide the help and care required by residents with patience and a genuine affection. Medications, diet and other needs are met and changing care needs are managed professionally. Manager Alison is both professional and supportive to residents and family members. There is a programme of entertainment which is tailored to residents abilities and preferences. There is also a sunny terrace for residents to enjoy when the weather is good. The grounds are maintained well and planted with seasonal displays which are cheering for everyone. Both my brother and myself have been pleased with Westlands and recommend it.

My previously independent mother moved to Westlands aged 96. She settled in quickly, with staff always treating her as an individual and showing flexibility in their own routines to help with the transition.
We really came to appreciate the way that Westlands is run:
Visiting times are literally any time of any day 24/7, and visitors are really welcomed.
The food is excellent in terms of choice, quality and quantity, served with a smile.
There are activities almost every day including weekly outings which my mother particularly enjoyed.
Staff are not just friendly, they become friends.
My mother was extremely well cared for, clearly becoming part of the Westlands' family. This was most evident when she passed away after a short illness a year after arriving. In the last few days, staff made sure that she always had someone sitting with her, and they were visibly as upset with her passing as we were.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Westlands as a care home for a loved one.

I am very happy with the care that we receive. Whenever we visit, we are always greeted with a smile and warmth . The staff always ask how we are which is lovely.
They really seem to care for all the family.
My husband receives quality care and kindness from every member of the team including all the carers, domestic /cleaning team and activities team.

My father has lived there for ten months now. The staff are very hardworking and helpful. They do everything to ensure safety. Attention to my father's medical issues/emergencies has been first-rate, with good communication with me. The home is very clean, well-decorated and smells very fresh. A significant amount of effort is invested in the activity schedule for residents. Residents are given a good choice of meals. I would thoroughly recommend it. It was of far better quality, than the other homes we looked at, with much better management.

The staff are very helpful and cannot fault them, but could have more communication between the staff, they need to pass on information properly when change over. All very pleasant and kind. The manager helped me a lot as well as looking after her clients.

Our Mum lived here for the last two years of her life. She loved her room and was very well cared for, making friends with many of the staff who looked after her. As visitors, we were always warmly welcomed and came to feel part of the Westlands 'family'. Mum particularly enjoyed the coffee trips to cafes by the sea and in the surrounding area. The care and compassion from the staff in her final days was exemplary and truly helped us through a very sad time. Thank you to all of you.

My mum and dad have lived in Teignmouth for many years.
In the summer of 2013 we were faced with a situation in which Mum trying to care for Dad was not working as well as we had hoped, even with carers coming in every morning and evening to help.
We started to look around for care homes that would meet their requirements but also had a friendly homely atmosphere for them. We feel even today that we were very lucky to have found this lovely care home.
Dad sadly passed away in 2017 and Mum is still happily safe, happy and well at Westlands.

My brother and I cannot thank all the staff for the care and attention they have given our parents over the years. There have been many trips out to wonderful places and many ice creams eaten!

My Mum has been at Westlands since January 2024, after she had a fall. She had been living an active and independent life until then, but since the fall she has not been able to walk and therefore needs 24-hour care. She misses her old home life, but has adapted remarkably well to her new circumstances, largely because of the friendly and dedicated support she has had at Westlands. The carers at Westlands have been wonderful. They have a difficult job but remain cheerful and uplifting, and Mum always tells me how amazing they all are and how well she is being looked after. For the first 6 months, Mum preferred to stay in her room rather than join in with others in the lounge. But she was encouraged to join a group to play bridge on a weekly basis, and doing this has encouraged her to join in with a lot of other activities and enjoy chatting with other residents. Thank you to everyone at Westlands for looking after our Mum, who recently had her 100th birthday.

My stepdad lived at Westlands for the last four years of his life and I am so glad he did. The staff were dedicated and professional, offering personalised care tailored to his needs. As he was still mentally very sharp right to the end, my stepdad enjoyed conversations with staff and took part in the varied program of activities offered, including visiting singers, trips out to a particular place, physical exercises and quizzes. He was always treated with care and respect.
The building has been renovated throughout in recent years and is clean, fresh and airy. My stepdad had a room with a view overlooking a particular spot and he enjoyed spending many hours on the large balcony downstairs during the summer months.
I was always warmly welcomed by staff when I visited and was kept up to date with health and welfare issues when the need arose.

Westlands appeared to be well-managed and communication between senior staff and myself was easy.

I cannot praise and thank the management and staff of Westlands enough. My mother was a resident for 3 years and was treated with care and love until she passed away on Good Friday this year aged 101.
Our experience is completely at variance with the review. We were always greeted with a smile and taken to where my mother was. When it was her birthday a tea party was arranged and we were invited and the cook made a birthday cake. We were also invited to have dinner with her. This we did which showed to us that the standard of food was excellent plus my mother had a glass of wine with her dinner. Having lived on her own for many years the atmosphere, activities and care of Westlands made her last 3 years happy ones. We are convinced if she had stayed in her flat alone she would not have lasted for her last 3 years which were spent in Westlands. We were always kept informed no matter of the time of day of any change in my mother.

Again thank you Westlands.

Awful experience for both my grandparents, myself and family.
If your loved ones can hold a conversation or are deemed to be in any way difficult due to their illnesses this is not the place for them! They will not get the care they deserve! My grandparents were there for less than a year due to how awful they were treated, myself and my family visited every day and the level of professionalism from the staff and management was disgusting.
On arrival, no update, you are just left to find family members yourself.
If you dared ask for a cup of tea you were met with an eye roll.

If you asked for an update even from management it was always something different to what someone else tells you, all just fabricated lies of what they think you want to hear just to shut you up. Staff hardly if ever sit and engage with residents. They are either sat chatting together or on their phones "work-related" sure!! Staff are very unhelpful and most are very rude! Absolutely awful place would not recommend!

We were concerned and dismayed to read your comments. Your grandfather stayed with us for less than one month and we regret that we did not have the opportunity to discuss these with you during his or your grandmothers stay. Full disclosure of care needs is very important prior to admission,...

Westlands provided a home for both my parents until they sadly passed away. The home environment is airy and bright, clean and tidy and has a sociable, friendly feel with a wonderful view. Whilst bedrooms are comfortable and personal, residents are invited to take part in daily activities including quizzes, board games, armchair exercises, church service and visiting entertainments. There are also weekly trips out, a visiting hairdresser and chiropody services etc. The food is freshly prepared offering a tailored breakfast, lunch/tea menu and afternoon tea and cake. Staff are very caring and friendly and many are long-term staff.

Mum and Dad settled quite quickly into the home environment. It was a bonus them being able to do this together. Outstanding care was provided at the most crucial time, caring for mum when she passed away and later dad. The support and consideration I received at this time was also exceptional. We remain very grateful to the Westlands family.

The staff have made what could have been a difficult transition for both my father and the family, much easier and smoother than expected when becoming a resident. The staff are absolutely lovely, caring people. The home is very clean and well-maintained. My dad's room is rather dark being in the basement but we hope to change that soon. There is a minibus, that takes residents on a trip out, if they wish, once per week. My dad has been taken to clubs that he attended prior to becoming a resident, which has been fantastic! They have an activity programme Monday to Friday, it would be nice to have something at the weekend too. Dad seems to enjoy the food served and makes sure he doesn't miss out on anything that is on offer! Staff are very diligent and when my dad has been unwell, they have reacted quickly, calling an ambulance when required. The staff are really empathetic and supportive of both Dad and us as a family. They are always happy to fill us in on any developments.
