My mother was in Beechcroft care home for 5 years; she sadly passed away on 18 July 2025. During her time at Beechcroft she received care of the highest standard. The staff were patient and caring and nothing was ever too much trouble. The home was always clean and tidy; warm and comfortable. When visiting
my mother we were always greeted by friendly caring staff.

My Dearest Grandfather entered the home in June 2023 when his dementia deteriorated and it was no longer safe for care within the family home. We were apprehensive about placing him in a home due to the stories you often hear and Adult Social Care found us Beechcroft. We could not have wished for a
better place for him to be, he was provided with outstanding care, and the staff became a second family for us, always a friendly smile at the door, or a hug and a listening ear on the days where dementia was particularly hard for us to witness. We were well informed of care that was being provided for his specific needs and one staff member in particular was always on hand no matter what to answer any of our questions. Sadly my grandfather passed away on 19 June, but we thank all the wonderful staff who helped give us an extra two years with such a wonderful man and for making his last few days so full of dignity. We will forever be grateful.

The family would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Beechcroft for making my aunt feel very welcome at such a difficult time for her. Beechcroft is a lovely home with very kind, caring staff and we can see that she is being well looked after.

My mother was at the care home for over two years, she sadly passed away in October 2024. I just want to say how supportive, kind, calm and caring everyone was, management, carers, cleaners, chefs and more are an amazing team, they treated my mother with the utmost respect and dignity, I cannot stress
enough of how caring they really are, I was always kept in the loop about my mother's care. All staff were approachable, I felt comfortable when visiting my mother, everyone was on the same page, staff are a dedicated, close, caring team, all staff care and love to the highest standard, you all deserve recognition in every aspect of your jobs. I couldn't ask for a better place for my mother to stay, she got the best care she deserved without doubt. The home always smelt beautiful, lavender, everywhere was clean and tidy and the food was magnificent, everyone works hard. The manager and staff are absolutely amazing. Thank you for everything you all have done, I cannot thank you enough.

My mother has been a resident at Beechcroft Care Home for more than two years. She has received consistently good care. The carers are friendly, highly motivated and the team is well-managed. I always feel welcome when I visit and always find her room clean, warm and comfortable. Communications with
the home are excellent and I receive regular updates on her ongoing medical condition. They are always happy to facilitate phone calls with Mother. I have every confidence in the continuing care she will receive.

Mum was taken into emergency care at Beechcroft following the sudden death of my father, her carer, almost two years ago. It took her a couple of months to settle in but the management and staff were extremely patient and helped to put our minds at ease during a difficult time. The carers at Beechcroft
are always very welcoming, polite, friendly and helpful; mum seems happy and settled, has made friends, enjoys the food and activities and we take comfort in the knowledge that she is safe and well looked after.
Between visits we speak to the manager and deputy manager regularly for updates on mum and they are always happy to take our calls, answer any questions we may have and keep us well informed of any health concerns or upcoming appointments.
Mum will soon be leaving Beechcroft to come and live with me at home but I would like to thank everyone involved with her care for their hard work and dedication and for making mum's experience a lovely one. You are all amazing. Thank you.

My darling father was in Beechcroft for his last months where he eventually, peacefully died on November 2nd. The love, care and devotion to his every need right up to the end and even after, was exemplary. The manager runs a very efficient home with staff who are the kindest, most patient and caring
I've ever seen. My father was never left alone at any time day or night and each time my mother and I went home after being with him, we felt totally confident he was in the most caring of hands and never neglected. We cannot thank the manager and all of the staff without exception - carers, kitchen staff and the cleaner - enough for all they did, not just my father but for every kindness and care shown to my mother and myself also, especially in his last days. Thank you to all of you from the bottom of our hearts.

They told me there was entertainment every day, not true. They said only low dementia people in, not true. Said it was like a mini holiday resort, not true. Saw a woman walking around in clothes too big for her. Wasn’t her clothes. She was dirty. Only left my mum in for one hour and took her out. They
were charging me £2250 for 15 nights and only got half my money back. Please don’t use this care home. Wouldn’t let me see the room she was stopping in.

Reply from Thornton Gow-Smith, Owner at Beechcroft Care Home

We are very sorry that the experience of your relative was not up to his expectations. The care home is licensed to look after the elderly with dementia, and we certainly try very hard to run an entertainment programme every day, and to keep our residents clean, although they may resist our attention on some days.

My father was cared for in Beechcroft for almost 3 years. The care he was given was of the highest standard. He enjoyed every aspect of living at Beechcroft from the food to the entertainment. There are plenty of activities and an exercise session every week. His favourite time was when a Care Dog visited
as he always had a dog before living at the care home.
He was returned from hospital for end of life care and even though we couldn’t be with him due to Covid the staff gave him every comfort. The manager gave us regular updates on his condition and showed us every kindness.
I am grateful he was at Beechcroft for his final days as I am sure he felt he was ‘home ‘.

My uncle was a resident of Beechcroft Care Home from March 2020 until he sadly passed away on 30th January 2022. During this time and throughout the Covid pandemic the owner and staff of Beechcroft were exemplary in their care of him. They looked after him with care and compassion and love. I know
he felt part of a family there. In sometimes very difficult circumstances they never failed in their caring and professional attitude to my uncle. I always felt he was safe and secure at Beechcroft which when visiting is difficult (because of Covid and the distance I live from the home) is extremely comforting.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.548)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.548) out of 10 for Beechcroft Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.848 for Beechcroft Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (69 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 79 Ratings = 4.848

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beechcroft Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
