My Mother gets wonderful caring with compassion. Her room is lovely and so are the facilities. Activities and days trips are well organised. Senior staff liaise with doctor, then to myself.
Sometimes it's difficult for me to accept my Mother is in care, age and having advanced dementia. Highborder
is the best place for her, she is safe and loved there. Ultimately, my Mother is 'happy '. Excellent communications, which are always Reasurring, I couldn't wish for anything else for my Mother. Thank you Highborder.

Mum has been a resident at Highboarder Lodge since June 2021. I am pleased to say the staff are both caring and friendly. Mum also enjoys the afternoon activities/entertainment. It also gives me peace of mind knowing that not only is Mum being well cared for but she is happy

My Mum settled into Highborder really well. This I believe to be due to the fact that it is like a "home from home". The staff are always very friendly and obliging and interact with Mum making her feel special.

My dad has been here for 2 years now and he is receiving good care, seems very settled and in better health than he has been in a long time. He struggled a lot with a difficult diagnosis and transition, without fully understanding what was happening to him, but the care home has become his safe place
and his carers his friends. The staff have to deal with very hard situations with my dad being very tricky at times and I have nothing but respect for them, always professional, friendly and welcoming. Thank you. The grounds of the house are very pleasant too.

My mother was a resident at Highborder Lodge from 12th Oct 2021 until her death there on 11th Nov 2023. Throughout this time the home gave Mum a very high standard of care, were kind to her, and made her time there as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. They kept me well informed of any health events,
such as Covid lockdowns, and periodic resident activities.

My next of kin has complex needs. He is always clean and dressed smartly. He accepts the care facility as his home and is settled and happy. His diet is of a high standard, nourishing with choice. Medical care needs are of a high standard which helps prevent unnecessary illness. I am kept informed of
any changes. Well done Highborder Lodge. He is happy and settled.

My mother moved into Highborder Lodge after being diagnosed as end of the pathway she was transferred from out of county with very short notice with the help of the manager. The care support and friendship shown to my mother by all staff members during the last ten days of her life was second to none.
and I would like to thank Highborder Lodge for all of their help and support.

I find the home welcoming, friendly and very clean. The staff form a friendship with the residents in times when your relative can feel very isolated. Whilst the rooms are not the most luxurious, they are very clean and after all, it's the staff that count. There appears to be a steady process of maintaining
and upgrading facilities, which shows an investment in the future. I feel safe in the care my mother receives at the home.

My mother has dementia, cancer and at 88, was very frail. We were very lucky in choosing this care home for her because she thrived. She loved her room, sitting in the garden, enjoying the food, and adored the staff. At 91, she started to deteriorate, but we knew she would be well looked after. It was
a worrying time when Covid hit the world, but the care home handled it well. End of February, my mother died surrounded by kindness and love. She was always kept clean, comfortable and pain-free; it was such a comfort to know she was looked after so well. All staff, from top to bottom, looked after her with love and care throughout her stay. We highly recommend it.

Both my parents lived together at Highborder Lodge. From the outset, we were made most welcome by the staff which made a difficult transition for Mum and Dad much easier. We were continually impressed with the friendly, homely atmosphere which benefitted both residents and visiting family members alike
(including our dog). Pre COVID we were able to join in with numerous well-organized and fun activities. Mum particularly enjoyed singing along with the musical entertainers. When we sadly lost Dad the staff's care and compassion for Mum was outstanding and again helped us through a very difficult time. We have no hesitation in recommending Highborder Lodge.

Highborder Lodge I think is the ideal size for a care home. It has staff that are dedicated and long-standing. The setting is perfect, a quiet area and the garden is a real asset, beautifully kept. The activities were well planned and appropriate (before restrictions) and were appreciated during respite
care sessions. Our friend was happy to spend time there and as a permanent resident. The staff communicated government restrictions and kept us informed throughout.

We chose Highborder Loge because it's a lovely, light, airy space of house and gardens. It's large enough to have the capacity for activities and trips to provide stimulation. Small enough to feel homely and caring. Very happy with our choice and the provision.

My mother enjoyed her time here. Pre-Covid, she would go out in the minibus to a pub for lunch, visit a garden centre, take a trip to the canal for coffee and cake etc. This was great for Mum as her previous home never did anything to stimulate their residents. Inside the home, there was entertainment,
quizzes, word games, music afternoons, film afternoons (with Popcorn!), even Bingo with prizes. Entertaining talks were available, I was actually visiting one day and the talk was on bees;- fascinating talk. It's a well run home with fabulous staff. They are caring, hardworking and very loving towards the residents, treating them as family. My mum loved the banter between the more "cheeky" ones, all good fun! The gardens are inviting to sit out on warmer days or the staff take the residents, (some in wheelchairs, some walking) around the surrounding area, past the farm, to the church. All in all, a comfortable 'homely' home for loved ones who need extra care.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.107)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.107) out of 10 for Highborder Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.757 for Highborder Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (56 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.757
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.35 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highborder Lodge is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.75
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
