Moorlands Residential Home is a beautiful Grade II listed building in the quiet village of Merriott in Somerset.
A particularly attractive, detached and extended stone built former farmhouse believed to date back to 1740. There is outside seating areas where residents can sit in fine weather to enjoy the lovely garden, or watch the world go by from the front terrace.

Internally the care home is as impressive as from the outside and includes 14 single rooms and one double bedroom. All rooms have en-suite lavatory and wash hand basin, whilst some of the larger rooms have a full en-suite bathroom. In addition to this, there are two bathrooms which are specially adapted for those who are less able. There are two sitting rooms where the residents can relax, read or watch television. The light and airy dining room is also situated on the ground floor along with a delightful conservatory, which looks out onto the garden and is very popular in the summer.

The home provides high quality residential care for a maximum of 16 residents. The home offers well maintained, homely surroundings and places a real emphasis on freshly cooked food. There is an activities co-ordinator who ensures that residents have plenty to do.

My father has been a resident in Moorlands since February 2026.
He settled quite quickly and always says how helpful and friendly the staff are.
He enjoys the social activities they provide especially the quiz and music.
Whenever we visit the staff are always willing to chat and discuss how he has
been and again they are all very approachable.
I am very happy he is being well looked after and cared for in his later years.
Thank you to all the staff that have made the transition as easy as possible.

Overall a friendly & comfortable home. Short on staff at times which obviously puts pressure on the others. Do feel SOME staff are not perceptive enough with noticing basic needs & things in general & have to be asked/reminded to do things . Cleanliness is very basic & not always consistent. Do feel
the whole home could do with a clean & freshen up/renew maybe ie: carpets, curtains in rooms, cushions & throws in lounge areas etc. I feel happy visiting & enjoy speaking with staff . I am confident my Dad is safe there. I am fond of the staff, they all seem ok & we all get along. Food is good & varied though teatime bigger helpings would be nice such as 2 x crumpets not just 1 !! Or maybe a better selection of bread, a nice thick wholemeal would be nice as opposed to always white bread & also maybe an accessible fruit bowl for residents to help themselves. In a nutshell a friendly & happy residence. You have asked for my honest opinion, this is it.

Moorlands is as close as you can get to family and home.
The staff are caring, kind and go above and beyond for all the residents ! From the moment you walk through the door, there is a genuine sense of calm, kindness, and community. The staff take the time to truly get to know each resident as an
individual, which creates a homely atmosphere rather than an institutional one. What stands out most is the compassion shown daily. The team treat residents with dignity and respect, Moorlands Care Home has made a difficult transition much easier, and we are deeply grateful for the dedication of Jayne, Michelle and all the amazing staff

If you want a personal touch and have your family member feel like family, Moorlands is the place to be.

It's those little touches the staff provide for the residents which give the homely experience to the home, which for me made me feel happy and confident that my relative would be well cared for

here and I was not wrong.

Moorlands is a lovely care home where my relative lived for a few years and was very happy here. The staff are kind and caring they go the extra mile to meet the needs of the residents living in the home. They are supported by the management team who work hard. They have a varied range of activities
going on within the home to meet everyone's likes.
I would highly recommend Moorlands to anyone looking for a placement.

Moorlands Residential Home continues to provide excellent care for my father. The care given by the staff is wonderful and caring, and he could not be in a better place. The environment is homely, and the resident activity coordinator ensures a wide range of activities to stimulate and entertain everyone.
I would recommend anyone who needs to place a loved one in care, either permanently or for respite to consider Moorlands Residential Home. We a very happy with the care and are always kept informed.

My 94-year-old mother was a resident at Moorlands from October 2019. Mum settled in really quickly, all the carers have been so lovely with Mum. The care home is small which makes the place very personalised. The home dealt with the covid restrictions amazingly, activities happen 5 days a week, which
includes varied group activities and one to ones.
Our mum sadly passed away in March, the home was able to provide her end of life care, and were so amazing with Mum (and the family) showing that they deeply cared for my mum. I was able to be with Mum each day, after showing a negative covid test so I was able to witness the excellent care our mum received.
We were so pleased we chose Moorlands for our mum as she was so happy there and we’d have no hesitation in recommending Moorlands.

Moorlands is a very homely place by virtue of its traditional build and a small number of residents. The welcome is warm and friendly at any time of the day; staff members are always at hand to attend to any requests. There is a feeling of genuine care, fondness and compassion and most staff seem to
have been working there for many years. Residents are encouraged but not forced to engage in communal meals and activities. A hairdresser visits weekly and a choice of meals is offered three times a day, plus drinks, cakes and snacks in between and on request.
My mother, who was very frail on arrival, has put on some much-needed weight and looks much better since she moved in a few months ago. She feels secure, cared for and warm, and her medication is managed responsibly, resulting in an improvement in her general health and well being.
Suggestions are well-received. Staff at every level are keen to make any changes that would improve the quality of life of the residents.

My mother has been at Moorlands Residential Care Home for over two years now. She has progressive dementia and finds it difficult to walk, but the staff are extremely caring to her, always friendly and welcoming to her and to myself. When I visit, there are always activities going on for the residents.
I never leave after my visits, worried that I have left her at the home because I know she is well cared for. It is a very "homely care home", with very good staff.

In 2017, my mother was evicted from a failing care home that had run into financial difficulties, along with 20+ others. I was very lucky to find Moorlands. Unlike the previous home, Moorlands is privately owned and has had the same manager, for a number of years. Also unlike the previous home, my
mother's new home scores consistently high on CQC inspections. The staff turnover, always a key indicator, is very low. The manager runs a happy home for both the staff and the residents. The catering is good, with many of the meals prepared using fresh produce grown in the grounds of the home. There is excellent provision for activities, run by a lady who spends time with the residents. The home is always clean.

All in all, a very well-run place, and one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Moorlands Residential Home is a home from home with the comfort and care that you would expect for your loved one. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and will go that extra mile in making sure residents are happy and feel safe. There are varied activities every day including a day set aside for
pampering such as hairdressing and manicures on a Friday. Food is freshly prepared every day with a varied menu. There are several outings arranged every year which the residents enjoy and many outside entertainers visit the home every month encouraging the residents to take part in singing and using musical instruments.etc. All in all, Moorlands is an extremely good care home and is run sympathetically by its manager and proprietor.

My mother has lived at Moorlands Residential Home for over ten years and has been very happy. The staff do all they can to make everyone enjoy their stay. It is a real home from home. I would (and have) recommend moorlands to anyone needing to move into care. This was an excellent decision for my
mum. I can not fault any aspect of the care provided. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, they really care about both the people they work for and their relatives.

We cannot thank Moorlands staff enough for the kindness shown towards mum since her arrival.

Nothing has been too much trouble in any respect, either during the day or night. In mum's own words, she considers herself very fortunate to have found a 'home from home' and feels very secure and well looked

after.

As a caring family who have it found it hard to accept that we can no longer cope with mum's needs at home, we are very grateful to have peace of mind that she is now being properly cared for. We visit most days and always feel welcomed into a warm and friendly environment.

Mum enjoys the range of daily activites and looks forward to the hairdresser service on Fridays. As a very fussy eater, mum reports that the food is home cooked using fresh produce.

At almost 95 years old, and having been lovingly cared for in our family home for 14 years, it is a relief to have found this gem where attention to detail can provide a safe and happy haven.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.423)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.423) out of 10 for Moorlands Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.235 for Moorlands Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (13 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 4.235
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.188 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moorlands Residential Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 16 registered maximum number of service users is 3.2. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 3.2 = 0.938
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
