The care for residents at The Priory is very good. The staff make each person feel special, treating them like family members. The small scale of the home means that care is very personalised, with full freedom of choice for activities and meals - residents can ask for something completely different
to the menu plan if they want to and this can almost always be accommodated as the meals are freshly prepared on the premises to a high standard.
In normal times, there is a varied entertainment programme, with different musicians each week and other artistic activity organised by a dedicated member of staff, but also trips out to local places of interest and even 10-Pin Bowling! During the lockdown, they quickly purchased an iPad so that residents could enjoy video calls with relatives and friends. They also had different themed activities each week.
The manager always has time to answer any questions, and during the lockdown, there were weekly updates from the owners.

My father has been a resident at The Priory for nearly 5 years. As a family, we have been more than happy with the standard of care and the attitude of all the staff.
Our father had his 100th birthday at the beginning of lockdown, we had to cancel his party and none of us was able to be with him, but
the staff made sure that we could all skype him and that he had a memorable day. The staff have gone to great efforts to keep the residents entertained during lockdown while they weren't able to have visitors. The staff always address the residents respectfully and also affectionately. My father regularly tells us how happy he is and that he feels well cared for.
Knowing that he is safe at The Priory over this difficult time has been a great help.

Where does one start? The care that is received by the residents is wonderful. The staff are so dedicated, caring and work so hard. The residents' needs are fully met and so nice to have staff who have been there for several years and not bank staff as a lot of homes have most of the time.
Activities
are amazing and have themes every week following the theme through each day with something different.
The Priory is immaculate and the food freshly cooked with a choice. Cakes etc all homemade and very inviting. Nice to see such a variety of lovely food including foods from other countries. All in all, The Priory is a one-off home and the residents could not be looked after better anywhere else. During COVID and lockdown, everything has been put into place and so much support to the residents who have been able to see their families. Can’t thank them enough.

We have nothing but praise for the wonderful care that our Mother has received during her five years at The Priory. During lockdown, the staff have 'gone the extra mile' to keep the residents motivated and in touch with their families.

My sister and me are totally delighted with the care my mother has received in lockdown. The entertainment has improved so much and care its usual high level of excellence. The carers are well named because they do actually care! Our contact does a great job keeping us informed. Residents will have
missed their relatives but with such an effort from staff visits were not missed anything like as much as they could have been. Congratulations to all at The Priory for doing an excellent job in a very difficult situation.

My mother has now been a resident for just over two years. Sadly for the past three months, I've not been able to visit her due to the Coronavirus. During normal circumstances, as I live a distance away, my visits are monthly. Every visit, I'm greeted by friendly and exceptionally helpful staff and
most importantly a contented and well looked after mother. Although she has some dementia she always comments positively on her care. The food I've received as a visitor has been excellent and rightly orientated to the likes of older folk. My mother has a good size room with an ensuite toilet. The Priory is clean and has a lovely old-world charm that my mother appreciates. The well-maintained gardens are a feature that residents can enjoy. I have no complaints about the care provided and appreciate the hands-on and personal approach of the owner. Lastly, I would like to praise all staff for the excellent care keeping the residents safe, well and entertained during the lockdown.

Dad was a resident in The Priory for 13 months and I am so pleased that a room became available just when he needed it. Essentially the memory of the time that Dad spent there will always be a good one, due to the hardworking and friendly staff. I visited an average of at least twice a week and they
were unfailing in their warmth and welcome. Even during the last few weeks, when Dad needed full care, we felt supported. It wasn't an easy adjustment for Dad after 90 years of independence, but have no regrets that we chose The Priory.

My friend has only been a resident at The Priory a couple of months but already the change in her is incredible. I can honestly say, I haven't seen her this happy in a very long time. She often comments on how wonderful the staff are, and she absolutely loves the home cooked meals!
I cannot recommend
The Priory highly enough, the caring and attentive staff have been instrumental in helping my dear friend settle into her new home. All her needs are met and it's wonderful to see her embracing all that The Priory has to offer.

On arrival at any time a very friendly, fresh and welcoming atmosphere. There are always flowers and relevant decorations for the time of year made by the residents. It is run with quiet efficiency, therefore creating a very happy team.
The staff always made time to chat, joke, listen to the residents.
Excellent
home cooked, fresh and very varied seasonal menu. The residents, staff, care home is always clean and tidy, the rooms light and airy of a high standard.
The garden and outside space are very well maintained, with beautiful hanging baskets in the summer.

This home is always open to visitors day or night. They are always friendly with the offer of a cup of tea. Mother in law is 103, the staff enjoy her company and always have good things to say about her. The home is clean and has NO unnecessary smells. Senior staff are friendly and approachable. There
are activities on a regular basis for residents and also some trips out.

After a prolonged stay in hospital starting in February 2018 followed by 9 weeks at a reablement home it was decided that my father could not return to his home. I was very fortunate to know food friends who has had a relation living in the Priory flats for some years. Fortunately, there was a space
and The priory felt able to accommodate my father's care having visited a number of other care homes and seeing how they were run you cannot believe my relief. My mother and I as dad is/are treated as part of the family. Fantastic.

A very pleasant care centre with lovely gardens, good sized rooms and willing care workers. I also feel the food could be greatly improved in taste and general good cooking. I found some evening choices most strange.

Overall the staff were helpful but at times I felt they needed clearer supervision.

My meds, especially, seemed to get constantly mixed up so it was useful that I had always dealt with some myself. It was nice that numbers were so low. It felt very homely.

We could not have asked for more during the time my mum spent at The Priory.
The staff showed genuine affection in the way they cared for all the residents. The atmosphere is one of a welcoming, comfortable 'home' in the true sense of the word, rather than an institution.
It is always a very difficult
decision when putting a loved one in the care of others but of all the places I visited it was the only one that I was confident would meet our needs.
It proved to be the right choice and I will always be grateful for the way my mum was looked after in the last years of her life.

I was so fortunate to find this home due to my daughter working here as a music therapist. Of all the sites she has worked at this was by far the best.
It's great and an inspiration for the residents.
Nothing is too much trouble and that is all I can say.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.572)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.572) out of 10 for The Priory is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.972 for The Priory is calculated as follows: ( (70 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.972

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Priory is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
