It is not a general care home that happens to take dementia residents — this is its specialism, and the reason it exists. Part of Fidelia Care Ltd, the home was designed around the people who live there, using colour and visual prompts to help residents stay independent and hold on to a sense of achievement in everyday things.
Many of the people cared for here come to Staverton House because other homes could not manage. They may have been distressed, or agitated, or found day-to-day care difficult to accept, and the placement broke down. That is the situation the staff are used to — what they are trained for and have spent years getting good at. The difference comes from knowing people properly: their history, what they like, what unsettles them and what helps them feel safe. When you understand that, many difficult days stop happening, or become easier to handle.
The home sits between Bradford-on-Avon, Trowbridge and Melksham, with village amenities close by.
Every bedroom is a generously sized single room with its own en-suite shower room. A dedicated activities co-ordinator runs regular outings, crafts, and music. The home cares for a small number of residents, so everything a person does can be recognised, however small — because self-esteem and independence matter enormously to how well someone lives with dementia.
The secure garden is designed with plenty to catch the eye and spark memories: a wild garden, wandering paths, fruit trees, and a safe water feature.
Staff are experienced and committed to this kind of care, and the home puts real effort into recruiting, retaining, and developing the right people. As a result, residents see familiar faces year after year. Visitors are welcome at any time.

My wife has been a resident in Staverton House since September 2018. During this time, her dementia has worsened, and she has now lost her mobility and needs to use her wheelchair for lengthy distances; as she can only walk with her zimmer frame for a few yards. Recently she has had a stroke, the new manager, assistant manager and every member of staff have provided first-class care and support. The accommodation and facilities are excellent. The food is very good. There are good activities and entertainment, including visits to outside sources and activities. I am always welcomed and kept informed of my wife's condition.

When Mum went into the home we had 3 basic wishes - for her to be safe, comfortable and fed. All of these things and much more are provided. We are very grateful to everyone at Staverton House.

He has a lovely, bright, cheerful room with his own ensuite which he loves.
The staff are caring and understanding and getting him involved in doing things as in his home he had become a recluse. They have walked with him to the local pub and had lunch which he very much enjoyed as he used to do this when he was fit and able. He has his daily paper and appears so much more relaxed. The meals are fabulous he says and finally is putting the weight back on that he lost.
I can’t praise the home highly enough and want to say a BIG thank-you to them. They helped me when I needed help too. You are all wonderful.

This is a very well run home. The staff are caring and genuinely concerned with the wellbeing of their residents. The home is clean and well maintained and the accommodation is generous. The last two and a half years she has been in care I have seen her every other day, the first home, which was a really nice home, but some way from Trowbridge, so we had her transferred to this home. Med sized home, very warm and friendly home, she settled in very quickly. Her room nice size, also a good garden. Staverton House is one of the best in Trowbridge and she is very happy there.

My aunt has a lovely room with an en-suite upstairs, and it is always kept very very clean and tidy. The staff use aprons on the residents to prevent food spill ages, and monitor their well-being constantly.

Since moving my mother into Staverton House I have been very impressed with the facilities and staff. What has impressed me most has been the time and attention the staff have given me - as in I feel they have educated me and seen to my needs and they constantly keep me up to date with my mothers status. As I sign in they always take the time to inform me of my mums present status i.e. whether she has bathed, eaten or her present state of mind.

After serving in the Armed Forces for 26.5 years until 2017, Neil began a new career in the care sector. Starting as a Support Worker with young adults with Autism, he later moved into dementia care, progressing through the roles of Care Assistant and Senior Care Assistant.
In September 2021, Neil joined Fidelia Care as Training Manager, supporting staff development and learning across the organisation.
