The Salvation Army believes that older members of the society deserve to be treated with dignity, and to receive care when it is needed, in an environment which will enhance quality of life. Youell Court provides residential care in a safe, secure, Christian environment for both men and women who can no longer manage in their own homes.


Youell Court was opened in October 2000. The building is owned by The Salvation Army and although admission is open to anyone irrespective of personal belief, its ethos is Christian. Not all the staff are practising Christians but Youell Court is run on Christian principles, and practical care is enhanced by an awareness that people may also need spiritual support. There is an ordained minister on the management team who is available for all residents.

This purpose-built centre for the elderly accommodates residents, living in 5 self-contained suites of eight single bedrooms, each suite having its own lounge and dining area.

At Youell Court, each resident is encouraged to remain as independent as possible and to continue to make choices which enhance and enrich life, as far as is practicable. Residents are encouraged to continue with former interests if at all feasible, and also to make suggestions for social activities.


Residents are encouraged to enjoy the gardens at Youell Court which are currently being developed to provide pleasure even for those whose sight may be failing. Residents also have access to the inner courtyards where they can sit and walk in safety.

Youell Court never forgets that each resident is an individual with individual needs.

My Mum has been a Youell Court for 3 years. She has dementia and some physical difficulties. Staff at the home have always been welcoming, kind and friendly. There is a warmth and respect for individuals which always leaves me feeling reassured that Mum is understood and appreciated. The environment
is colourful and stimulating, always being refreshed and well maintained. The central gardens create a light airy effect and give Mum a feeling of being outside on the way to and from her bedroom. As a relative, I feel that my views are easy to communicate and acted upon.

I am a regular visitor to the home for nearly 3 years and have noticed a great improvement in the last 12 months. The improvement relates to the management of the number of staff employed. Activities are more varied and some are related to resident's requests

A home which cares for its residents, retaining their dignity all times. The home has a friendly feel and the carers ensure that the residents are treated as individuals.
The only downside is that the meals are not cooked freshly on site and some meals are bland and unappealing.

Having visited numerous care facilities when my mother required 24/7 care, Youell Court was one of only two care homes that we felt confident in meeting her needs and satisfying our requirement to provide a safe, caring and professional service.
During her four and a half years stay to date, the quality
of care and constant improvement in staff's understanding of complex needs has continued to impress. This is not a Care Home in the old sense of the term, this is a home that cares, a home that is “home” to the residents a home that residents recognise as their home.
The staff employed at Youell Court are professional, dedicated, competent and friends with the residents and their visitors. The welcome is apparent upon entering the home and all staff are familiar with all residents needs and interests, irrespective of their individual roles and responsibilities. This home fills me with confidence in its ability to provide my mother with care, friendship and a happy place to live.

I have level 5 in leadership & management, in 2020 I was a finalist in the Great British Care Awards.


I am a dementia friend & I strive to give the residents living at Youell Court the best quality of life.


I am married to Michael, we have 2 daughters & a Labrador Stanley. I love to secretly shop and enjoy spa days & I love food!
