The Review Score of 5.8 (maximum of 10) for Holly Lodge Residential Care Home for Elderly is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 2 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Holly Lodge Residential Care Home for Elderly in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 1.6 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 2 years. (A 2 year period has been used as there were no positive reviews in the last 12 months)
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 4.217 for Holly Lodge Residential Care Home for Elderly is calculated as follows: ( (15 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 4.217
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 1.609 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Holly Lodge Residential Care Home for Elderly is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:
3 = 3 then divided by 2 = 1.500
Target of 4.6 positive Reviews (23 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 4.6 Target = 0.217 , then divided by 2 = 0.109

Review submitted from a Website Submission by Sarah S (Niece of Resident) on Sunday 21 May 2017. Relates to May 2017.
My uncle has been a resident here for three years. The quality of care and communication is outstanding. Every member of staff treats the residents with respect and dignity. Nothing is too much trouble for staff who put themselves out to care for individuals. The home is well managed, care plans updated regularly and family kept informed. Mealtimes are a highlight for the residents with delicious meals served and even a glass of wine with Sunday lunch. On arrival, the manager makes an effort to know as much about a resident's past as possible to aid conversation and getting to know them. Residents are encouraged to be independent, but support and encouragement are there when needed. Large scale entertainment is organised and smaller regular games of bingo, sing songs and games occur daily. Occasionally residents go out to the pub or tea room; funded by a Christmas Fair, which helps make the home a community. As a regular visitor, I am known by name. I'm 100% satisfied.

Review submitted from a Website Submission by Gary S (Son of Resident) on Sunday 28 February 2016. Relates to February 2016.
Advertised as specialist dementia and Alzheimers care.
Unfortunately it was abundantly clear they did not know to deal with dementia behaviour.
In their opinion, nursing and further medical attention was required, however, mom immediately settled in another residential care home.
Just feel people should be aware.
The team are very nice and pleasant but alas, I feel they want the easiest residents at hand and quickly reject residents who may appear more high maintenance.
How likely would you be to recommend Holly Lodge Residential Care Home for Elderly? Extremely Unlikely
M Ali, Partner at Holly Lodge Residential Care Home for Elderly responded to this review on 10 Mar 2016:
I don't agree with the reviewer, Gary. Yes we are registered for Dementia but we only take residents with very light or mild dementia. We are not Dementia specialists and unfortunately we could not care for Gary's mother as her needs were different and she could not settle in.
