Rated as GOOD by CQC on March 4th 2021, Lady Katherine Housing & Care is a very special care home established by Lady Katherine Leveson in 1674 and the team are proud to have been providing exceptional care to residents for over 300 years since then.

You would live within the rural leafy hamlet of Temple Balsall within majestic 18th century buildings in either residential care or independent living, in fully modernised and CQC regulated apartments. As your needs change you can move from one type of accommodation to another and you can also stay for a spell of respite care. You will live in a safe environment, have the benefit of the care you need from the well trained and friendly team, be able to enjoy the many events on offer and homemade food cooked on site.

Within the hamlet there is the Parish Church of St Mary The Virgin and a primary school so you can become an active part of the community enjoying extended gardens and the countryside. They welcome all, irrespective of race, creed or religion.

This is the second review I have completed. The first one was critical of certain aspects of the care afforded to my wife. The recruitment of some excellent carers has made an enormous difference. I now think I understand that certain protocols and procedures need to be applied before changes/improvements
can be made. If this had been made clear to me long ago I would have understood how I could help.

It was Mum's first time in respite and she was frightened and we were really worried about her but right from the get go Mum was put at ease. The lady were kind, patient and reassuring and did all they could to make Mum feel "at home" and at ease. I can't thank you enough for helping us out and particular
thanks must go to Sal who looked out for Mum and even let her sit in the office when she was feeling overwhelmed. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this fantastic place to anyone in the same situation , thanks again.

The staff are not only professional and attentive, but they genuinely care about the residents. It's clear that this is more than just a job to them. The facilities are always clean, bright, and thoughtfully arranged. My mother has her own private room, which she is able to personalise with her favourite
belongings, and she feels right at home. The gardens are beautifully maintained and provide a peaceful retreat where she enjoys sitting with other residents or reading a book.

A beautiful period building with many original features and a safe, secure grassed court area. The lounge is always busy and social, the food well prepared, fresh and tasty. Activities are well planned and fun. The standout however is the staff. They are all compassionate, caring, helpful and supportive.
This is a residence that is a home, rather than a facility where people are segregated according to their level of dependency. Keeping all residents together and in touch with each other. This leads to a sense of community and fellowship rather than isolation and loneliness. It is a happy place.

I was granted a place for independent living at this address in November 2024. From the first communication with the Deputy Care Manager and her team, I have experienced the utmost kindness and courtesy. The accommodation is quiet, comfortable and well-heated, and the option of various services like
cleaning, tasty and well-prepared hot meals, and full respite care, the facilities are wonderful. I would not hesitate to recommend Lady Katherine facilities to anyone worried about their loved ones. They will be happy and well cared for by clean, well maintained and wonderful staff. I cannot praise them enough for their welcome and kind support.

We have recently moved Mom into Lady Katherine Care Home from another care home where Mom was a resident for nearly 3 years. We were very concerned for Mom's well-being at her previous home as staffing levels were unacceptable and we felt Mom was being neglected. I had heard only good reports about
Lady Katherine's home so I decided to pay a visit and I'm so glad I did. From the moment I met the manager and staff I have been shown such kindness and understanding. It's not an easy process having to move a dementia patient but they have handled the process professionally and efficiently. The difference in the care my mom is now receiving is such a relief to me. Daily activities help my mom's well-being and carers are always there to help her. Nothing is too much trouble including a constant supply of tea and biscuits! The level of care is outstanding I could not be happier.

Lady Katherine's is a very special place. My lovely Mum has been a resident for 8 years and I'm so glad my Dad found and chose this home for her. The facilities are good, the rooms comfortable, the meals great and there are lots of activities and trips. But most importantly the team is amazing. It really
does feel like a family. Nothing is ever too much trouble, everyone is really supportive and open and the carers and medical staff put a lot of effort into understanding my Mum and her needs and working out the best ways to manage them. My Mum has made friends with both residents and staff and I know she is not just receiving top-quality professional care, but she is also happy and content.

Lady Katherine Care Home is situated in the countryside, with historic beginnings. A warm welcome, caring staff which she observed when choosing to stay long term since 2018.
She was always treated with respect, dignity and love by all the staff, especially at difficult times.
The home, in its cleanliness,
laundry and housekeeping was always excellent.
The management team's communication and face-to-face contact kept us well-informed.
The special occasions are celebrated in style.
There were daily activities to participate in, but latterly she enjoyed the singing at each opportunity.
As her days faded, the palliative care she received from the staff was exemplary. The constant care, personal attention, and every aspect throughout was given with the utmost compassion, gentleness and kindness that anyone would wish for their loved one to receive.
I and my family will be forever grateful for each and every day my mother spent with you all. Thank you.

The building has a lot of history and certain areas could do with modernising.
I appreciate that this would be difficult to do. The entrance area and downstairs toilet are small and often congested.
It is good that the residents are all together in the lounge rather than alone in their rooms. The
choice is there for them, however.
The staff are always cheerful and helpful to visitors and residents. Many of the staff have worked there for a long time so management would appear to be good.

My mum came for respite care for 2 weeks in August enabling us to have a holiday break.
I found the staff to be very kind, caring and responsive. The accommodation is very private, a stimulating environment with the added bonus of being in a truly beautiful and peaceful setting. To me, it seemed like
a proper home rather than just a care facility.

I have been at Lady Katherine for two years. When I first came I needed full care so had a flat on the ground floor. The staff do a wonderful job, they are all very good carers. When I was much better and could look after myself I moved to a flat on the first floor, I do have a stair lift and I am a
sheltered independent resident now. Care is always on hand if needed. In the main house, dining room, lounge and kitchen on the first floor more flats and bedsits, so good accommodations all around.

Following a move for my father from another care home Lady Katherine Housing & Care has been a breath of fresh air. All aspects of the experience from administration to care have been attentive, respectful and efficient. The staff are excellent and very caring. This is immediately evident from observing

The team at Lady Katherine managed the transition of my Father into their care with ease and efficiency. This was a very traumatic time for our family and their sensitivity and support went a long way in making it as painless as possible. Since his first week in June 2024, we have seen him settle and
the staff really take him into the Lady K Family, something very special and wonderful to be a part of and we feel blessed to have him in such a loving and safe environment. Dad had settled within a month and is now happy and content with all his new extended family and friends. I would recommend Lady Katherine and their amazing team of staff to anyone who needed to make this huge and very difficult step as our experience has been more than we could have imagined. Following my diagnosis of; Cancer, Heart Disease, and Oesteoarthritis in early 2023 it was deemed necessary for me to move to a Care Environment. Having personally selected Lady K Leveson as my new home, I am pleased to offer my review after living in The Court for over a year.
I have no future plans
or foreseeable reason to relocate and am pleased to call "The Court" my Home.
I have witnessed continual improvement to all Services, (at differing paces). All listed services are Good. The Trustees, Management, and Staff combined are striving to provide Excellent Service. I shall be happy to provide future updates to this review as each Service becomes "Excellent" (of which I have no doubt).
PS. Looking forward to the next 350 Years.

We visited a friend at Lady Katherine's over 20 years ago and were impressed with what we saw then. Subsequently, after the pandemic, we decided we needed a break and came here for a week of respite care. Living in an apartment much in need of modernisation, we still enjoyed the beauty of the complex
with its links to the church and the school, with lovely countryside all around us. At the end of our visit, we came to the conclusion that, should our health or changed circumstances mean that we needed greater personal care, then we would hope that we could return to Lady Katherine's.
Two years later that did happen, we returned and were delighted to discover that we would eventually be able to move into a newly renovated apartment. The dedication and kindness of all the staff is exemplary and we know that whenever a problem occurs it will be dealt with efficiently and with very real care and concern.

In my capacity as attorney to a lovely lady with dementia, I have found the staff at Lady Katherine to be very supportive and compassionate. Day respite for one day a week extended to two days a week and then Christmas respite was extended to a permanent stay at my client's request.
Lady Katherine
is situated in the countryside which is a calm tranquil setting for later life. The residents are well cared for and enjoy good food and daily activities.
Special mention to deputy manager who communicates and updates me regularly.

After the long and very sad demise of my mother, I feel I should share my experience of the fantastic care and support of all members of staff within the foundation! From the day my mother entered Lady Katherine's, she was treated with the utmost respect and patience and felt safe and cared for! The
building was warm and homely and the food was freshly prepared every day, and every special occasion, be it birthdays, Christmas, New Year, Easter etc was made as memorable as possible!
Cleanliness was exemplary, and housekeeping and laundry were always up to the mark! Maintenance of the premises was always performed unobtrusively! Thank you one and all for allowing my mum to feel at home for her final years!

We have been pleased with our accommodation and interactive talks with staff and other residents. Management have always been helpful.

I have always been passionate about working in care and have been fortunate enough to gain extensive experience in this field over the years, and to be working in such a beautiful, historic environment at Temple Balsall.


I commenced my journey with the Lady Katherine Housing & Care family back in 2010, starting out as a night carer. By 2012, I achieved my Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, paving the way to a career I am deeply passionate about. With a dedication to continuous learning, I successfully completed the NVQ Level 5 Management Leadership for Health and Social Care.


During the twelve happy years working at our care home, I was promoted to increasingly more senior roles until I was appointed the registered care manager in 2022.

I have been working at Lady Katherine Housing & Care home for the last 6 years starting as a Care Assistant and then being progressively promoted to become Deputy Care Manager in 2022.


I have a passion for working in Health and Social Care and love working at Lady Katherine. I studied Health & Social Care at University College Birmingham and then pursued a BA Honours Degree in Social Care at Wolverhampton University. My academic achievements have helped me become a highly skilled and knowledgeable professional in my field.
