Situated in the heart of Ross-on-Wye, one of Herefordshire's most picturesque market towns and set within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of the Wye Valley, Rosedale Retirement Home offers a warmth and character that is difficult to find elsewhere. With 24 beds, Rosedale provides the kind of intimate, personalised environment where residents are truly known as individuals - not room numbers.

Led by an experienced and dedicated management team with over two decades of frontline care expertise, every aspect of life at Rosedale is shaped by a genuine commitment to person-centred care. The home's values of dignity, respect, and independence are not simply words on a wall - they are lived out daily in every interaction, every decision, and every aspect of the care provided.
Rosedale prides itself on being a true home from home, where residents and their loved ones are actively involved in the running of the home. Their voices matter, their preferences shape daily life, and their families are always considered partners in care - not visitors.

Residents enjoy freshly prepared meals, a rich programme of activities, and the opportunity to take part in community life - including links with the Ross Meeting Centre, Memory Café, and the wider Dementia Friendly Ross-on-Wye initiative. For those living with dementia, this connection to the local community provides an invaluable sense of belonging and familiarity.

In the 18 odd months that my father spent at Rosedale, he received care of the highest standards. He was admitted there in the early stages of Vascular Dementia. Formerly a very independant man, staff were patient and accomodating as he adjusted to his new surroundings. As the disease progressed
every effort was made to preserve his dignity where possible and to give him quality of life.
What is so lovely about Rosedale, is that it is not some flashy, faceless residential home with all the trappings, but more like a 'home from home'. Cosy, warm and welcoming with staff that genuinely care for the residents. I live some way away from Ross, but I could sleep safely in the knowledge that my father was now safe and in some cases, loved. My step siblings and I are very grateful to the care given by Gaurav and all of the team there.
We thank you with all our hearts.

My mother has been a resident of Rosedale since Spring 2024. She is in her nineties and was admitted to Rosedale as we could no longer cope with her dementia at home. She was very reluctant to enter a care home and honestly, her behaviour was quite challenging to the team. However, their care, patience,
and refusal to give up are exemplary and I cannot praise them highly enough. Always friendly, informative, and respectful they have sought ways to engage my mother in difficult times. The home is spotless and the home-cooked food looks delicious. The cook is always friendly and available for a chat. When my mum has needed medical attention they have kept me fully informed throughout and discussed options sympathetically. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Throughout the year that our cousin has been a resident at Rosedale we feel that her comfort and dignity have been at the centre of her care. Her complex medical needs have been investigated and met. The manager has always kept us informed about any changes that needed to be made and has spent time
with us to help us understand these changes. We have always felt that we could contact him with any concerns that we have had and have found the staff very approachable and kind. Every resident is seen as an individual with individual needs and things that they enjoy and the manager and staff make great effort to ensure that these different needs and likes are met. Our cousin's interest in gardening has been encouraged as has her enjoyment of walking. She always appears well-groomed and smart with nails beautifully painted. Meals are cooked fresh every day and smell delicious and the home is spotlessly clean. We feel that our cousin is not only safe but very well cared for.

Choosing the right care home for a loved one can be a difficult decision. We had to make that decision for my aunt. On our initial visit to Rosedale we were impressed with the manager's perception of my aunt's circumstances and his proposals to engage the appropriate services to manage her complex condition.
He ensured I was fully kept informed of all medical visits and discussions involving my aunt and always sought my opinion. I always found the carers polite and courteous and they provided excellent care for my aunt. She frequently told me how "kind" the carers were. When you come into the home you can immediately see and smell how clean it is kept. The meals are all freshly prepared and look substantial and nutritious. Sadly, my aunt passed away recently. We will forever be indebted to the manager, his wife, and each and every member of staff for their care and compassion shown towards my aunt.

Excellent in every way. Initially I was a bit frightened to go to a care home after a stay in hospital however I am happy I ended up coming to Rosedale. The management husband and wife team have such passion to look after the residents and I have grown attached to the residents here at Rosedale. I have
really enjoyed my walks, the beautiful garden and the staff have been great. I am kept up to date with my medical needs and appointments. I especially enjoyed my trip with other residents and staff to the town. The chef's cake is out of this world! I would like to think one day, I would like to come and visit every one again. The care staff have been very compassionate with my personal circumstances. Thank you for everything.

I would not hesitate to recommend Rosedale Retirement Home.
First impressions were excellent, lovely double-fronted house with a front garden full of flowers, the manager was at hand to welcome me. We had spoken previously on the phone concerning Mum to gain some insight of the family and Mum’s likes
and dislikes. This broke the ice when we met up in person. Staff, brilliant, very friendly and caring. Treated with dignity.
The environment was very clean. The lounge area and dining area felt cosy, a bit like home or a small cosy hotel. Mum loved her room with patio doors opening up to a pretty enclosed courtyard, again full of flowers in tubs and raised beds and a cute water feature. We liked Mum’s room too and very pleased it had her own ensuite facility. Spotless.
An excellent relationship with GP surgery.
Rosedale’s manager and his wife and the owners ensured that Mum’s needs were met including her favourite food and drink requirements. Nothing was too much trouble.

Ideal residential situation for my aunt and we are able to visit at any time. The care is exemplary and although when we moved my aunt there they had a poor CQC report it was clear that considerable effort was being made to address the failings as has been evidenced by the latest report and our own
observations.

In 2013 I moved my father to Rosedale from the care home which he had been placed in as an emergency measure by social services. The care home in North Wales was totally unsuitable and I looked at several care homes in the area around Ross on Wye but I was most impressed with my meeting with the manager
and the reassurances she gave me about the care my dad would receive. We discussed the problems that he was having with his behaviour and she suggested some ways that they would reassure him and settle him into the home.
At Rosedale he has been very happy and has said many times that he likes it there and feels that the staff are kind and considerate to his needs. He also likes the food.
The home is very clean and the resident's lounge and the bedrooms have plenty of light.
The staff are friendly and helpful and I feel that they care about my dad and want to help him have a good quality of life.
I have no problem communicating with the staff and they are always ready to discuss my dad’s problems and suggest ways to help him.
I know that I can always contact the managers to discuss aspects of my dad’s care as well as talking to the manager at the home and I always get good advice. The managers are at the home one day a week and we are able to have a general chat about my dad at these times also.
If I am away with work or on holiday I have every confidence that my dad will be taken care of and the doctor called if necessary. I feel that it takes a lot of strain off me to have this trust so that I can relax on holiday knowing that he is being well looked after.

My father has only been a resident for a few months but during this time his physical health has improved enormously, putting on weight and taking pride in his appearance. Refurbishment of the home seems to be ongoing as there are still areas that require TLC. Some of the residents who are able could
possibly benefit from a few interactive activities. Overall, we are happy with the care.

When we first visited this home a year ago, we were impressed with the calm and homely atmosphere which stood out in comparison to many other homes we visited. My mother in law has been a resident for 8 months now and we still like the atmosphere. All staff are very attentive to the residents' needs,
they are patient, caring, friendly and creative. My mother in law and the other residents are well looked after and always seem content. All staff are not just doing a good job, they really seem to care for the residents and keep thinking of ways to make life easier for them.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.104)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.104) out of 10 for Rosedale is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.896 for Rosedale is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.896
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.208 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rosedale is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 4.8 = 0.833
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
