  • Rosedale, Ross-on-Wye
Situated in the heart of Ross-on-Wye, one of Herefordshire's most picturesque market towns and set within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of the Wye Valley, Rosedale Retirement Home offers a warmth and character that is difficult to find elsewhere. With 24 beds, Rosedale provides the kind of intimate, personalised environment where residents are truly known as individuals - not room numbers.

Led by an experienced and dedicated management team with over two decades of frontline care expertise, every aspect of life at Rosedale is shaped by a genuine commitment to person-centred care. The home's values of dignity, respect, and independence are not simply words on a wall - they are lived out daily in every interaction, every decision, and every aspect of the care provided.
Rosedale prides itself on being a true home from home, where residents and their loved ones are actively involved in the running of the home. Their voices matter, their preferences shape daily life, and their families are always considered partners in care - not visitors.

Residents enjoy freshly prepared meals, a rich programme of activities, and the opportunity to take part in community life - including links with the Ross Meeting Centre, Memory Café, and the wider Dementia Friendly Ross-on-Wye initiative. For those living with dementia, this connection to the local community provides an invaluable sense of belonging and familiarity.

The home maintains strong relationships with local GPs, district nurses, and allied health professionals, ensuring residents receive joined-up, responsive healthcare as part of their everyday life.

For families, Rosedale offers genuine peace of mind - a place where their loved one is cared for with skill, compassion, and consistency, in surroundings that truly feel like home.

Rosedale is a friendly happy residential home. The care staff are warm, friendly, supportive and provide a secure, safe and pleasant environment for my mother. They treat her like a friend and equal whilst looking after her needs and day to day requirements.

During my friends stay at Rosedale he has been cared for exceptionally well. He is always treated with the utmost respect and dignity and is perfectly content and happy in his environment. My friend's health fluctuates from time to time but a GP or nurse is always called immediately to ensure his health
and well-being. The staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful when I visit and show him patience and kindness.
My friend says " I am always being spoilt here and they help me to laugh and smile.

My mother was cared for at Rosedale for the final years of her life, when she was suffering from increasingly severe dementia. During this time, the staff were caring and did their best to make sure that Mum was comfortable and clean. At times, this was a difficult task as her illness meant Mum was
not always able to understand where she was or what was happening to her. Although I didn't visit regularly, living some distance away, my sister was there most days and both of us were happy with the way the staff related to both us and our mother.

My mother lived at Rosedale for the last three years of her life. During that time the care she received from all the staff was exceptional and of high quality. Her room was bright and airy and the lounge area comfortable and welcoming and there was always a choice of meals. I visited most days and
because it is only a small home everyone became like a second family to me which was so important in the final weeks. I cannot praise them highly enough.

Both my parents stay at Rosedale. They are cared for in a kind and compassionate way keeping them safe and happy. The home is clean and well run with all meals being home cooked. The home has a very clean smell rather than any unpleasant odours sometimes found in other properties. The whole family commend
Anna the manager and her team for a job very well done. Keep up the good work.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.104)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.104) out of 10 for Rosedale is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.896 for Rosedale is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.896
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.208 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rosedale is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 4.8 = 0.833
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
