Visitors were largely excluded throughout the pandemic with no idea of the emotional consequences to relatives and their families. Whilst other care homes were opening up to visitors in the summer of 2020 last year, this home opened briefly allowing fifteen-minute weekly visits. Government guidance was not followed and was left up to the discretion of the Manager with devastating consequences.
I was only allowed to see my mother for a total of ten hours in her last eighteen months up until the last five days of her life. My thirty-minute visits were timed and monitored. I often left in floods of tears.
She was bed-bound and confined to her room. The manager showed no compassion or empathy and repeatedly refused to supply an individualised visiting plan which should have been discussed with both of her daughters. My mother's emotional needs were ignored and her mental health deteriorated.
My poor Mum and I were both denied our Human Rights.

I cannot recommend this Care Home.

Reply from Georgina Stone, Registered Manager at The Mill House Care Home
We fully acknowledge that the restrictions on visiting that we were required to implement during the pandemic caused upset for our residents and their relatives. Our priority has always been to keep our vulnerable residents safe. At all times we followed government guidance on visiting.

It is always hard to make the decision to put a loved one in a care home. However, all the staff at Mill House were very kind and supportive to both myself and my dear mum, who lived there for two and half years. They cared for her right up to the end of her life, always treating her with respect and dignity.

Our Mom has been cared for by the team at Mill House since October 2018 and during this time they have shown nothing but care and compassion for her and all of us as a family. Whilst trying to find the right care for Mom, we stumbled across a fair few that didn't meet our expectations or Mom's needs and we can only be thankful that we eventually came across Mill House. The pandemic meant that we were not able to visit Mom face to face and it was only the knowledge that she was so well looked after that made this bearable. It is evident that all the staff work as a team as the continuity of her care is exceptional. I would not hesitate to recommend Mill House to anyone who is looking for care for a loved one living with dementia and thank all of the staff for their continued support to both Mom and us.

My mother in law suffers from Alzheimer’s and has been a resident for approx 3 years. The staff and management have treated not only my mother in law, but the whole family with kindness, dignity and respect. The home is brilliant at communicating which has been especially appreciated during the pandemic. I would recommend Mill House unreservedly.

I was recommended Mill House by my work colleagues who already had/have family residing there and they are as wonderful as described. The staff have supported me so much from my very first enquiry, through to moving my mum, who suffers from Alzheimer's, permanently into the care home. Their attention to each resident is what makes them happy and settled, goes above and beyond. All the staff I've met so far are just lovely. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

The manager and her team at The Mill House can only be described as angels. My mother moved to The Mill House when already in the very advanced stages of Alzheimer's and her needs were complex and demanding. The care that she received was exemplary, despite the challenges of COVID 19 and Mum's severe condition. Sadly, Mum deteriorated and passed away in July, having spent just 5 months at The Mill House. My family and I witnessed the most genuine, loving care for Mum in her final days, allowing her to pass with great dignity. The sheer level of compassion from all of the staff, carers and managers, towards Mum and the family, was astounding, with members of staff working late/beginning early just to ensure that Mum had the care that she required - my family and I cannot begin to express our gratitude. I honestly cannot understand the current CQC rating; in my opinion, this care home is 'Outstanding' in every aspect.

Mill House has cared for my mother for 2 years, she has received excellent care, attention and most important love from all the staff. I would highly recommend this residential home.
The setting is perfect for my mother’s needs, I’ve observed the excellent care being given to other residents. Their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has been outstanding.

Thank you Mill House from all our family.

I had been looking for a care home for my mum who suffers with dementia for several months and had visited numerous properties, but I knew straight away at my initial visit to Mill House that I had eventually found the right one for her. Everything about this home is perfect for mum. The food is excellent, the range of events and activities outstanding and the staff are amazing, not only caring for the residents but their relatives as well. The home has a professional and genuinely friendly welcoming feel no matter what time you visit.
Mum has made some lovely friends among the residents and it’s a joy to see her interacting with them and to know she is happy. When I have to leave it is such a relief to know she is safe and well looked after and I know that if the staff did have any concerns then they would always contact me straight away.

In 2017 it was rated as ‘outstanding’ and those standards haven’t changed in my eyes, so don’t be put off by the current CQC rating.

My wife has been a resident for almost eight years; in that time she has received the best care we could wish for, in spite of staff changes, inevitable over that time in this profession. We have in general never felt she was in any danger and she has had a caring, considerate and very friendly relationship with the staff. They have indeed been approachable and a source of comfort for me as well as my wife.

The latest CQC report does not reflect my nor my wife's experience, and I do take issue with its conclusions, which I consider to be misleading.

The recent CQC rating needs to be ignored; it cannot be more wrong.
My mother is a relatively new resident, but within a matter of weeks, Mum was settled, happy and back to her old self.
The care the staff show is outstanding. The whole atmosphere of The Mill House is happy, friendly and loving, and it's comforting to know Mum is in such a nice environment.

If anyone is looking for a #1 home for their loved one look no further - this is the place!

I cannot praise The Mill House highly enough for the care and welfare of my mother. She is always happy when we visit and is clearly content in her surroundings. All of the staff that I have met are professional and cheery, whatever time of the week I visit. In addition, I am always informed of any changes/concerns they may have concerning my mother. This is the second care home that she has been in and I can honestly say that we have found the perfect place for her.

The Mill House is a dementia care home and has cared for my mother for many years. I cannot speak highly enough of this outstanding establishment. From the day my mother went into the care home, to date, we as a family have never had a single cause of complaint in the fantastic care and support provided for not only my mother, but for us as family members as well. They have met her forever changing needs over the years, providing a tailored care package covering her personal and dietary needs. The care and support given to my mother from every member of staff is with kindness and empathy. She is always treated with dignity and respect, and her safeguarding is paramount.
The care home has freshly made food daily with the addition of morning and afternoon drinks and snacks. They provide a variety of daily activities for the residents to take part in, and all this is provided within a clean and safe environment.

Highly recommend for total peace of mind in care and support.

I am highly surprised by the rating of Requires Improvement but that perhaps says more about the CQC than the home. Mill House is a wonderful environment for its residents. Also, it is in a lovely setting in rural Worcestershire. The staff are marvelous, engaged and informative and the home feels safe and accommodating. I think what impresses me most about the home is that they care for the family of the residents as much as the residents themselves. For example, upon birthdays and anniversaries, the staff always go the extra mile to make it an occasion. The other thing that impresses me is the quality of communication with the family. I am always kept up to date with all things affecting my mother-in-law. I cannot speak highly enough of Mill House and what is really great is that I feel I can trust its staff and rest easy that knowing she is cared for even when we are not about.

My mother has recently moved to Mill House. Having advanced Alzheimer's while still being fully mobile, we had struggled to find a care home that would accept her. Mill House welcomed her into their home in an extremely friendly and professional manner. My mother's behaviour is challenging at times but nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The home has been thoughtfully furnished to meet the needs of dementia residents with stimulation and interaction built into everyday life. The staff are extremely caring and very knowledgeable, knowing exactly when to step in and help and when to step back. I cannot rate Mill House highly enough, the whole team are wonderful.

Hello, my name is Rebecca Pleaden (known as Bec), and I’m the Registered Manager at The Mill House Care Home.

I started working here in 2012, joining the team as a Care Assistant. The Mill House have supported me with my CQFs and progression throughout my career. I have previously left and worked in other care settings; however, the grass is NOT greener, and I soon missed The Mill House and their family-run values.

I am a bubbly, sociable person who is passionate about making a difference to people and their lives. I am immensely proud of the Home I am part of and the team I work with.
