Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 out of 10 for St Joseph's Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 22 Reviews over all time.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.714 for St Joseph's Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (192 Excellents x 5) + (65 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 262 Ratings = 4.714

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 24 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 48 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this care provider to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews; 3.00 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 24 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 48 months. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Joseph's Residential Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3.00 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11.8 positive Reviews (59 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 16 Reviews ÷ 11.8 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My father was extremely well cared for by all members of staff, whilst in St Joseph's between April 18 and May 19. I cannot praise everyone enough for all the love and attention dad received in those 14 months. I would highly recommend this care home to anyone considering a safe and loving place for
their loved ones to be cared for.

On visiting, my friend is always well dressed in coordinating colours, is happy and enjoys the caring attention of all the staff. She is cared for emotionally, physically and spiritually which has always been very important to her prior to suffering from Alzheimer's.
The staff are always happy and
cheerful with both tolerance and compassion towards all on the units. They keep me informed of any change in my friends care no matter how small or insignificant. I cannot fault the care.

My husband was admitted to St Joseph's in August 2018 and from day one he has been really well looked after. The carers are so kind, helpful and loving to me as well as my husband and the whole atmosphere in the home is of one large family where everyone, patient, family and carers interact with one
another. I am so grateful to have him in St Joseph's and cannot say how much I appreciate it.

Very respectful of residents, interested in each one and treating people as individuals.
Always clean and uncluttered, whilst also being homely - a living environment not a care institution.
Communication with me is generally good. Responsive staff to requests for anything to help my husband. Flexible
to peoples needs.

My husband receives excellent care, he is always clean and tidy. The home is kept clean with no unpleasant odours and the food is fresh and cooked on site. I am delighted to have him in a care home, as near to being 'at home' as possible, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. There are regular visits
by the district nurse, a doctor, hairdresser and chiropodist, as well as a local doctor on call as required. This was the best care home I visited when looking for care for my husband, and has proven to be the right choice.

My dad went to this home as we could no longer care for him at home. Straight away we knew we had chosen the ideal place.
The carers are amazing, they treat residents as individuals and consider every aspect of their care to ensure their happiness and security. Events are organised on a regular basis.
eg, connection with a local children's nursery, music, flower arranging and visits from animals including llamas and donkeys.
Relatives can visit at any time and are given a warm welcome. The home is always clean and the rooms are very comfortable with views over the garden.

The very best thing about St Joseph's is the staff. All staff, whether carers, management or cleaners are excellent. They all treat the residents with great kindness and nothing is too much trouble. I cannot praise them highly enough. Sometimes they seem a bit stretched but this does not alter the fantastic
care they give. I only wish for their sake there were more staff. The place is comfortable and clean and cosy. Sometimes Mom does not like the food, especially the puddings and milkshakes. On the whole, my mother seems content and happy which is a great relief to me.

My mother has been a resident of St Joseph's Care Home for about three years. She suffers from dementia but on the whole is a happy soul singing and chatting with other residents and staff when she is not resting. I have noted excellent in all the categories of this survey because I always come away
from the home thinking how lucky she has been to get a place here.

I recently went for respite care to St Joseph's and had a very good, pleasant stay with good food, excellent attention by all staff. Nothing was too much for them to attend to and talk to as well. Would have no hesitation in going there any time.

All the staff respect patients dignity. Since my father has been a resident they have treated him as a member of the family, enjoying days out and doing exciting and interesting things. Thanks for making a difficult decision easier.

Choosing a care home for a much-loved mum is an enormous task. Nowhere will be perfect but St Joseph’s was the best for mum. The comfortable, homely environment was very suitable.
The friendly, caring staff took time to get to know mum and family members. They built up lovely relationships with mum,
always treating her with dignity and respect and she came to recognise them as part of her community.
Whenever there were family concerns, the unit manager was always approachable and very good at listening. Equally, the family were informed if staff were concerned. A good partnership was established for mum’s care.
Spiritual needs were recognised and a huge bonus for mum was the opportunity to go to daily Mass in the little chapel.
Writing a review is from a personal perspective but it was evident St Joseph’s team of managers, care assistants, cleaners and chefs all contribute to the personalised care of all the residents.
A very grateful daughter.
This home is very much worth consideration.

We are very pleased with our choice of home for our beloved sister. She is loved and cared for by caring nurses who spend time in talking to her. The place is clean, homely and well maintained.
There are no urinary smells. Her bedroom is clean and so is the ensuite. She is well dressed and always clean
and fresh. The head nurse phones us if our sister is poorly and they call us frequently to give us a report.
They also tell us if garments needs replacing she is peaceful and settled and spiritual needs are given importance.

I am extremely pleased with the care my mother receives from this care home. The staff are excellent, every time we visit they are engaged with the residents and are always willing to discuss the care and needs of my mother. The room she is in is excellent. She is always treated with dignity and respect.
The activities they provide are many and varied.

I have two parents at St Joseph's Residential Care Home. No matter what time of day I visit, I find them to be looking good and having so much dignity than they did in the last few months of independent living. The atmosphere is always jolly and appropriate. The staff are exceptional at their jobs,
I don't think they realise how good they are. The managers are always available and approachable. I would have no hesitation in recommending St Joseph's Residential Care Home.

Our precious parents both were in St Josephs for more than 12 months. During that time it was a pleasure for us, as a family, to visit them and see that they were well nourished, clean, happy and felt to be part of a family.

We visited so many care homes and at times were so upset at the level of

care. St Josephs was the perfect home from home. I honestly, and my siblings agree, that my parents thrived under the constant care of the great team at St Joseph's.

St Joseph's managers and staff welcomed my mother with Alzheimers after a very difficult start when she vigorously opposed admission. She has been made to feel a valued member of the wing. Staff have actively encouraged and supported a range of activities. She has had several external visits which she
has enjoyed. She is respected and treated as an individual and supported to attend daily mass which is very important to her. Staff initiate and maintain good contact in person and by phone with family.

I cannot thank the staff at St Joseph's Residential Care Home enough for their kindness and warmth they have shown to my aunt and all family members throughout her transition from hospital to her new care setting her beautiful new home. The time and care the staff have taken from my first enquiry at
the office, the hospital assessment visit and during the transition has been quite remarkable. Thank you all. I shall look forward to visiting my aunt here!
