Gresley House is a welcoming care home located in Church Gresley, near the centre of Swadlincote in South Derbyshire. The home provides residential and nursing care for older adults, including those living with dementia and individuals with more complex health needs.

The building has long been part of the Church Gresley community. Local history suggests the site was once home to the historic Boot Inn, which served the village during the 19th century before later becoming known as the Gresley Court Hotel. The property was first registered as Gresley House Residential Home in 2004, continuing its long tradition of serving the local community.

Gresley House became part of the Oak Tree Care Group family when it was purchased in 2015, bringing the home into a wider organisation committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

The home combines traditional character with ongoing investment and improvement. The original side of the home retains many of its traditional features, creating a warm and homely environment, while areas of the older part of the building are gradually being refreshed and updated.

In 2025, a new seven-bedroom extension was completed, with each room benefiting from en-suite wet room facilities, providing additional modern accommodation for residents.

In February 2026, the home was successfully registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide nursing care, allowing Gresley House to support residents with a wider range of needs and enabling people to remain in familiar surroundings if their care needs change.

Situated close to Swadlincote town centre, the home benefits from a convenient location for visiting families and is surrounded by the green spaces of South Derbyshire and the nearby National Forest.

Above all, Gresley House prides itself on providing a caring environment where residents are treated with dignity, kindness and respect.

My nan stayed at Gresley House for three weeks whilst I was on honeymoon. My nan had lots of visitors whilst at Gresley House who all fed back to me telling me that my nan was happy. She loved all the staff, she enjoyed the food being served. My nan was poorly while she was on respite and immediately
action was taken to ensure she was treated correctly.

After being diagnosed with Vascular Dementia, it soon became obvious my sister-in-law could no longer live alone and needed 24/7 care.
Gresley House welcomed her as a resident 20 months ago, and she soon settled in under the loving care of all the staff.
In my opinion, they go above and beyond looking
after the residents making sure they see to all their needs.
She is content and safe in the care of the amazing staff at Gresley House.
Thank you all so much.

It was very traumatic bringing my dad (who has vascular dementia) to a Care Home that we were unable to visit beforehand because of COVID-19. The staff at Gresley House have been wonderfully caring and have done their utmost to keep me and my siblings informed and to enable us to speak to him regularly.
He is being very well cared for and from what we hear from him, the food is excellent and the staff are always very kind. He has done some painting, made some bird feeders, decorated Chinese lanterns and decorated an Easter hat and often plays draughts. They have from time to time sent us photos of him and we are well informed also via our personal WhatsApp group. If ever dad has fallen, they have been quick to tell us and we feel that we can entrust him to their care with total confidence. Thank you so much to you all for looking after him with dignity and loving care.

From the very first day that my Dad (who has vascular dementia) arrived to live at Gresley House, I have been thoroughly impressed with the care he has received from the lovely staff here. They have been amazing! The communication with my siblings and me about how my Dad is getting on has been excellent.
We’re always kept informed on his well-being. I’ve visited Dad as often as possible and he has settled well. I can sense that he feels at home here. He’s always loved his food too and says that the meals here are excellent. Our grateful thanks to the team.

Gresley House is the home of my grandmother. We have peace of mind that she is somewhere safe and at home, my grandmother has dementia and can’t remember much but one thing she never forgets is how much she loves living at Gresley House. When I visit Gresley House it seems to me like one big family
of people, everybody is so lovely and welcoming. Thank you so much for taking care of my grandmother and supporting us as a family. You have given us peace of mind. It has also been relieving to know that the safety of my grandmother has been maintained through the awful pandemic we are facing. Thank you so so much. All the best.

My father came into the care home at the end of December 2019. As I was shown around I was extremely impressed with how clean everywhere was. The lounges and his bedroom looked very comfortable and homely. The carers have been outstanding, they soon got to know my dad and pay him so much attention.
He loves music and they are always having a sing-along and dance with him, play his favourite songs and make him feel very special. He just loves being in their company and all of our family are so grateful in the knowledge that he is happy and being well looked after. We are given updates as to how he is and we can ring and Facetime him, which has been so comforting with not being able to see him during the Coronavirus pandemic. Since being in the home he has picked up no end, he sleeps well, eats lovely meals in the nice dining area, bought homemade cake, hot/cold drinks to him when relaxing in the lounges, where there are large TV's to watch. I cannot credit the care home and staff enough.

My father was welcomed into Gresley House just after Christmas of 2019 following a very difficult period for the entire family.
Despite never being away from his wife and home and being diagnosed with dementia he has settled in wonderfully, much to the relief of the whole family.
The quality of
loving care he has received has been exceptional.
Due to the current pandemic, we've been unable to visit for several weeks but the family are able, thanks to the staff, to have regular virtual visits.
It is clear that my dad is happy and well cared for, albeit still very upsetting to see his dementia taking hold of him in this cruel way.
Without the care and help and professionalism of the entire team at Gresley House, I really don't know how the family could have coped. We knew very little of this awful illness which is slowly taking our Dad away from us but thanks to Gresley House they are helping my dad to live what time he has left with dignity.

My dad has been in Gresley House since March. I am extremely pleased with his care and how the staff have helped him to settle in. Nothing is too much trouble. Obviously, in these times of lockdown, we have not been able to visit but we can ring and speak to him whenever. The staff are always friendly
and helpful on the phone. I think the staff do a tremendous job. I would highly recommend the home to anyone.

Staff are excellent, the food is very good and with the new manager in place you can see the difference. I would question if there were enough staff on nights to cover the home in general.
Reply from Jenny Tivey, Registered Manager at Gresley HouseThank you so much for your review, feedback is vital for quality monitoring and I will pass your comments onto the team. I would like to assure you that we are fully compliant with night staffing hours and we can discuss this further at any time. I didn't know what to expect. I went for 2 weeks whilst I had my bathroom made into a wet room. I had to stay another 5 days because it wasn't finished. Everything was superb, a beautiful room with a large television, very comfy single bed and the staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble.
The food was to die for. It was just like a holiday. I have COPD and hardly any balance. Meals were brought to my room when I wanted - everything was excellent. If I needed a home, I'd go there for good.

Current Review Score: 7.2 (7.241)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.2 (7.241) out of 10 for Gresley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.889 for Gresley House is calculated as follows: ( (13 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 3.889
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.352 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gresley House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.227
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My name is Leanne, and I am proud to be the Registered Clinical Manager at Gresley House. I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years, originally training and working as a Theatre Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Scrb Practitioner within maternity services.

I moved into the care home sector in 2013, where I developed a strong passion for supporting older people and those living with complex care needs. I joined Oak Tree Care Group in 2021 as a Registered Nurse at our flagship home, Tynefield Court, where I progressed to Deputy Manager and then Home Manager.

I was later given the opportunity in 2025 to move to Gresley House as Home Manager, where I led and commissioned the nursing service within the home. I now proudly continue to lead the service as Registered Manager.

I truly love Gresley House and feel very proud of the team we have built here. Together we work hard to create a warm, welcoming environment where residents are treated with dignity, respect and kindness. I am passionate about ensuring every resident receives the highest standard of care while still feeling at home, surrounded by people who genuinely care about their well-being.

If you are considering care for a loved one, please feel free to call the home — I would be delighted to speak with you and show you around Gresley House.
