Gresley House is a welcoming care home located in Church Gresley, near the centre of Swadlincote in South Derbyshire. The home provides residential and nursing care for older adults, including those living with dementia and individuals with more complex health needs.

The building has long been part of the Church Gresley community. Local history suggests the site was once home to the historic Boot Inn, which served the village during the 19th century before later becoming known as the Gresley Court Hotel. The property was first registered as Gresley House Residential Home in 2004, continuing its long tradition of serving the local community.

Gresley House became part of the Oak Tree Care Group family when it was purchased in 2015, bringing the home into a wider organisation committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred care.

The home combines traditional character with ongoing investment and improvement. The original side of the home retains many of its traditional features, creating a warm and homely environment, while areas of the older part of the building are gradually being refreshed and updated.

In 2025, a new seven-bedroom extension was completed, with each room benefiting from en-suite wet room facilities, providing additional modern accommodation for residents.

In February 2026, the home was successfully registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide nursing care, allowing Gresley House to support residents with a wider range of needs and enabling people to remain in familiar surroundings if their care needs change.

Situated close to Swadlincote town centre, the home benefits from a convenient location for visiting families and is surrounded by the green spaces of South Derbyshire and the nearby National Forest.

Above all, Gresley House prides itself on providing a caring environment where residents are treated with dignity, kindness and respect.

Gresley House provides excellent care for my father, who has some physical disabilities as well as Alzheimer's.
The care, food and environment have improved immensely over the last few years.
The activities and events are stimulating and enjoyable for us all.
My family and I are always made welcome
and are always offered tea and cake.
I heartily recommend Gresley House to anyone looking for a homely, friendly care home.

My mum moved here from another home this year. I cannot fault the home, they care for mum so well, physically and emotionally. She has put on weight and is much happier. We do not have to worry about appointments and professional visits as they sort everything and just give us a ring to update us.

My great aunt is a resident of this home, the staff are friendly and helpful. The home also has events for residents and when it was my aunt's birthday they arranged a birthday cake for her which was really lovely.

We reluctantly placed my grandad at Gresley House when we could no longer meet his needs at home; We cannot fault the care he now receives, he appears happy and we can now spend quality time with him when we visit. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The manager phones us herself to update us
on his health and well being. I would recommend Gresley House to anyone looking for a homely place for their relative.

My mother in law has been a resident here for the past 2 years after initially going in for respite care and it quickly becoming clear that she would struggle to cope on her own at home. From the minute she has been here she has been treated with respect and care and the staff have taken the time to
talk to both her and the family to get to know us, and find out what they could do to make Mum's life as comfy as possible. Since Mum has been here her general health seems to have improved and I believe this is thanks to the attention she gets from all the staff.

In the last 2 years, the home has had new management and the house has been refurbished and it now has a warm and welcoming feeling. There is a lovely garden for the residents to enjoy and several community rooms for different activities.

Nothing seems to be too much trouble and any requests or problems are dealt with promptly and with no fuss.

Although my brother was in Gresley House a short while, I must admit he was looked after and cared for, we couldn't have asked for a better well run care home. The management and staff looked after him and us and kept us informed on his every need. Sadly he died on the 11th June but he was looked after
and made as comfortable as possible and he was treated in a sympathetic and caring way and would like to thank the manager and staff at the Gresley House care home.

My mum spent 2 weeks respite care in Gresley House. She needed support at night at very short notice. All the staff were very friendly and very caring towards her. In fact they were very caring toward myself as well. They would always offer me a cup of coffee or tea when I visited. Nothing seemed too
much trouble at all. There was always a positive, happy and welcoming atmosphere during the time she stayed.
My mum was given a room that had been newly refurbished. Although the single room had no toilet, there was a sink in the corner which was very handy for washing and cleaning teeth.
She had 3 ample meals throughout the day and plenty of opportunities for drinks whenever she wanted one.

Excellent care home. Friendly and warm staff. The recent renovations are looking superb and provides a clear message to welcome new guests.
There has recently been a new Manager appointed within the establishment that is keen to adhere all new legislation and keeping the property to the high standard
required.

My mother has been a resident in Gresley House for several months, and the move has had a beneficial affect on her health and well being. Without exception staff are warm and welcoming, creating a very homely environment. Every effort is made to engage residents and relatives in day to day activities,
nothing is ever too much trouble. My mother's care plan reflects her individual needs and preferences and my observations are that care is delivered in a dignified and personalised manner.
Before moving in staff made us aware that there were refurbishment plans for the home which are currently being implemented.

My Mother has been a resident at Gresley House since June 2014 when she was diagnosed with profound dementia. It was a serendipitous find by my sister.
The first thing that attracted us to Gresley House was the friendly and caring attitude of the staff.
They get to know the residents, and their little
ways, and treat them according to their needs - always with sensitivity.
As a relative I am always treated with courtesy and offered refreshment.
At all levels the staff keep me informed of changes or needs relating to my Mother's care.

The home was taken under new ownership earlier this year and is currently being refurbished, new floors, new seating and more to come. The staff have also been undertaking courses to enable them to better understand and enable their day to day interactions with the residents.
I would have no hesitation recommending Gresley House.

Current Review Score: 7.2 (7.241)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.2 (7.241) out of 10 for Gresley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.889 for Gresley House is calculated as follows: ( (13 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 3.889
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.352 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gresley House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.227
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My name is Leanne, and I am proud to be the Registered Clinical Manager at Gresley House. I have been a registered nurse for over 20 years, originally training and working as a Theatre Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Scrb Practitioner within maternity services.

I moved into the care home sector in 2013, where I developed a strong passion for supporting older people and those living with complex care needs. I joined Oak Tree Care Group in 2021 as a Registered Nurse at our flagship home, Tynefield Court, where I progressed to Deputy Manager and then Home Manager.

I was later given the opportunity in 2025 to move to Gresley House as Home Manager, where I led and commissioned the nursing service within the home. I now proudly continue to lead the service as Registered Manager.

I truly love Gresley House and feel very proud of the team we have built here. Together we work hard to create a warm, welcoming environment where residents are treated with dignity, respect and kindness. I am passionate about ensuring every resident receives the highest standard of care while still feeling at home, surrounded by people who genuinely care about their well-being.

If you are considering care for a loved one, please feel free to call the home — I would be delighted to speak with you and show you around Gresley House.
