Layden Court Care Home

from G L (Friend of Resident) published on 5 February 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our friend has spent the last 18 months here until her recent passing. ALL the staff were patient, kind and respectful towards her even when she was having an 'off' day. She was safe and extremely well cared for with a lovely room, delicious food and numerous activities. There were regular coffee mornings,
sing alongs and special occasions for both residents and their family/friends. The atmosphere is cosy and homely and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you to everyone working there, you are a credit to the home.
Reply from Chantey Hickling, Registered Manager at Layden Court Care HomeThank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. It truly means a great deal to everyone here to know that your friend felt safe, cared for, and at home during her time with us.
We are honoured to have been part of her life over the past 18 months, and we're especially grateful that you noticed the patience, kindness, and respect shown by our team, even on more challenging days. Creating a homely, supportive atmosphere with meaningful activities, good food, and shared moments with family and friends is something we care deeply about.
Your appreciation will be shared with all our staff, who work incredibly hard and will be very touched by your message. Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review, and please accept our sincere condolences on your loss.

The manager of The Hazelford is kind and considerate and this is reflected by me seeing his contended and caring self. He gives the job his all, he even saw the New Year in with 4 residents - my husband included. He makes Hazelford a happier place and can be completely trusted. He is sympathetic to
both residents and relatives. he is in complete control and stands for no nonsense. He is aware of all that happens and nothing misses him. He is knowledgeable, down to earth, very approachable and an excellent manager.

My mum has been in Layden court for roughly 3 years, she is very settled and happy.
It's very welcoming and friendly, I enjoy spending time with mum in the care home.
The environment is relaxed and cosy.
There has been a lot of changes but now the new manager is in place I have seen so many positive
changes.
Christmas was very magical, so many decorations, balloons and festivities.
They have been given a piano which is lovely as my sister played Christmas carols for all the residents.
The food is lovely at lunchtimes, choice from 2 with vegetables and potatoes or chips.
They have a lovely big back garden, me and mum have spent many warm evenings sat out with the sunshine on us.
They have a staff are so friendly and accommodating, they are a 2nd family to my mum and feel reassured that she is safe and well looked after.
The manager is very friendly and always compassionate with her role.
She communicates effectively with the family, keeping us updated on mums care.

The staff at this home are friendly and welcoming. No smell of urine or cabbage! Lara and team liaise with us. Our relative has blossomed in their care. She is antisocial, and they respect her wishes not to participate in activities/dining area. The rooms are bright and cheerful, food is lovely. I asked

My Mum has been a resident, at Layden Court Care Home, for nearly 8 years.
The care she and other residents receive is now the best it has been.
The Home has been through a lot during previous ownership and management.
I must stress that I am very pleased with every aspect of my Mum's care.
Chantey,
the Care Home Manager , is brilliant, takes any concern seriously and deals with them immediately.
All the staff work extremely hard .
Christmas and New Year was fantastic including decorations , parties and invited Singers .
There was even a Santa's grotto.
Relatives are encouraged and welcomed to attend regular events.
If I was looking for a Care home , for a relative, I would not hesitate in chosing Layden Court.

The Hazelford Residential Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband spend sixteen months in Hazelford until his recent passing. As his health began to give cause for concern the compassion and knowledge of end of life care by the manager and all his team was exceptional, as were all aspects of my husband's previous care, it was always above and beyond. Not
only my husband but the whole family were cared for and helped through this very difficult time. We entrusted him to the care of the home and we were never disappointed only reassured and grateful that he was always treated as an individual with his own needs and likes and a person in his own right who happened to have dementia. It gave us such peace of mind to see he was so settled and part of the Hazelford family.
How the manager and his staff achieve what they do we will never know but we will be forever grateful to them and long may they continue in helping not only people at the most vulnerable time of their lives but allaying the fears of anxious relatives and friends looking for genuine help and support for their loved ones.

Layden Court Care Home

from Christina W (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 January 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My dad was a resident at this care home, and I cannot speak highly enough of the care he received. He was bed-bound, yet the staff went above and beyond to ensure he was not only well looked after, but truly cared for.
The food was always good, and attention was paid to his individual needs. One staff
member particular took it upon herself to give my dad special care, showing genuine kindness and compassion. She and the team engaged with him regularly, taking the time to talk with him about all his favourite things and helping him feel valued and understood.
What really stood out was the personal touch - they put up posters of dogs and horses around his room to make it feel more special and comforting for him. Small gestures like this meant so much to him and to us as a family. We will always be grateful for the dignity, warmth, and compassion shown to him in his final months.
Reply from Chantey Hickling, Registered Manager at Layden Court Care HomeYour kind words about the team's compassion, attentiveness, and the personal connections they made with your dad mean a great deal to us. Ensuring residents feel valued, understood, and treated with dignity is at the heart of what we do, and it's reassuring to know that this came through in his care.
We're especially touched that the small, personal touches-like the posters of dogs and horses-brought him comfort and helped make his room feel more like his own. We will be sure to share your comments with the staff member and the wider team, as feedback like this is incredibly meaningful to them.
Thank you again for trusting us with your dad's care and for taking the time to share your experience.

Layden Court Care Home

from Sue H (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 12 January 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My father in law went into Layden Court for respite in January 2025 but whilst there his needs were assessed and he became a permanent resident until his death in June. He was a difficult man but at every step of the way the staff listened to him and made him feel heard. When he arrived the room had
recently been decorated and he didn't like the feature wallpaper which was an issue for him as he was bed bound. The Management arranged for posters of dogs and horses (his loves) to be put up so he couldn't see the wallpaper. A little touch but something which we appreciated as it calmed him. He was on anti agitation meds but he still got very agitated in the early evening and during the night and the management arranged sitters for him when he got like this. It was a horrendous situation as he was only given a week to live in June 2024 and was laid waiting to die which caused all his anxiety. His care by the Management of the home was second to none.
Reply from Chantey Hickling, Registered Manager at Layden Court Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and moving account of your father-in-law's time at Layden Court. We are truly sorry for your loss and appreciate how difficult that period must have been for you and your family.
It means a great deal to hear that our team listened to him and helped him feel heard, particularly during such a challenging stage of his life. We're glad the small personal touches, like the posters reflecting his love of dogs and horses, brought him some comfort, and that the additional support in the evenings and at night helped ease his distress.
Your kind words about the care and compassion shown by our management and staff are sincerely appreciated and will be shared with the whole team. Thank you for trusting us with his care.

Bunkers Hill Care Home

Reception should be manned 7 days a week to relieve staff from letting you in. On entering the ward it smells of strong urine. Cleaning is very basic. There is a big problem with staff shortage. Staff cannot give residents the individual care they need. Food is not fit for a human being, it looks like
slop thrown on the plate. No variety some thing most days. Lounge/dining room very basic. Garden a mess & not safe for residents to get round by themselves. Activities are very basic one a week and not every week. The home is very basic & poor and needs investigating and is certainly not value for money.

The Hazelford Residential Home

During my husband's working life he has held positions of authority and been very active with community projects. Inside he is still the same man but is now dealing with multiple health issues in a previous placement his habit of wandering about at night was seen as a problem. Since he moved to Hazelford
falls rarely occur. Manager Shaun believes residents have right to go wherever they wish as it is 'their' home. To ensure his safety the staff just follow him about while he 'patrols' the home keeping everyone else safe. He is happier so I am happier.
Reply from Shaun Rodgers, Manager at The Hazelford Residential HomeThankyou for the positive comments and I will work on the negative areas. I am happy that your husband is settled and that he continues to be as independent as he can be.

Staff are absolutely amazing. If only I could give 10 stars and not 5!
My nans last few days were spent at Tynfield care home, Etwall and I could not thank their staff enough. A special mention to Kelly who made my nan feel so comfortable and cared so much for her including the rest of the staff looking
after her. Also a special mention to Aimee who I believe is the manager. The kindness and support you have shown us will not be forgotten!
We as a family, are so thankful for everyone who looked after my nan. We are devastated my nan isn't here any longer but find comfort knowing my nan was cared and made comfortable in her last few days from the amazing staff.
Everything was done in a professional manner and my nan was treated with such dignity.
Thank you again everyone at Tynfield care home. We appreciate everything you have done for our special nan.
Kind regards
Olly

The whole team should be applauded. Thank you for the compassionate way in which my dad was treated during the almost 2 years he was at the home. I witnessed many acts of kindness, not only towards him but other residents whilst I visited. All I can say is 'care' home is definitely the right term to
use for The Valleys.
