I would like to thank all the staff and management for helping to have my mum seen by the mental health team, which led to having a medication review to help calm her down when she starts to get angry. Since the review she has been closely monitored and when they see an attitude change she is given medication to calm her down, making the staffs job much easier to deal with. Keep up the good work.

The Valleys always go above and beyond to ensure that the residents are well cared for. The food is excellent. My nana is a vegetarian, however they always make sure she gets a varied menu. Even the chef has been up to see her to discuss new ideas for her. The staff are very friendly and are always happy to help and give amazing care. Finally the activities are great too with live music happiny regurly.

My mother in law has been in The Valleys since 4th February, she has had the best care possible from all the staff. They have shown so much considerations, care and love. Nothing has been too much trouble for anyone. We have been kept up to date about everything from day one. No complaints at all.

I find the care home is excellent for my sister as she is happy, content and safe. She seems to get on with all the staff and residents and mixes in well. The food is excellent, as she was very skinny when she came in, but has put weight on. I am quite happy with her living here.

The whole team should be applauded. Thank you for the compassionate way in which my dad was treated during the almost 2 years he was at the home. I witnessed many acts of kindness, not only towards him but other residents whilst I visited. All I can say is 'care' home is definitely the right term to use for The Valleys.

My Mum was placed in The Valleys by the Council. Within a month she had lost a lot of weight and had deteriorated rapidly. Approximately one month after entering the care home she then had three falls in one day. She ended up in Hospital for many weeks and was eventually discharged into another care home. She is now in a very bad way and will not recover. I requested an investigation into what happened and it is clear from the official safeguarding investigation report by the Council that my Mum was not kept adequately hydrated. The report states that my Mum was offered only 400ml of fluid on the days leading up to her falls. The target is 1500ml per day. The report states that there are inconsistencies in the amount of fluid offered to my Mum before her falls, with as little as 300ml being offered some days. The Valleys were asked for the reasons and simply ignored the request for information from the Council.

The Valleys Care Home is an excellent care home for my wife who has Alzheimer's disease. The staff are very caring and understanding of her needs, the seniors note all the needs of my wife and immediately call me if she is "out of sorts" in any way.
The catering department is excellent and my wife really enjoys her food we had a party for her on the 7th December in the Day Care Unit and the buffet supplied was really top notch.
The activities team are always excellent and involve the residents a lot in games and puzzles and artistic events like painting etc.
The cleaning dept is very good too and any mishaps are promptly dealt with in an efficient way.
The Reception Staff are always very welcoming and smiling and seem to know who everyone is
The Manager is a very caring person who is always available for any concerns that I may have about my Wife's welfare

So all in all I am very satisfied with the Valleys

All the staff are always helpful and welcoming. Throughout the pandemic, we have been able to see Mum on FaceTime, and then with masks, gloves and apron from a distance - out in the garden when the weather was warm. Then inside a designated room when the weather was cold behind a screen (also, one of the family could be tested and meet Mum in a designated room) then all back to behind a screen. (From the 8th March one of the family can be tested and meet Mum in a designated room again).

Alice Pawson
Alice PawsonJob Title:Registered ManagerJoined: 2023

Hello, my name is Alice, I am the home manager of The Valleys.

I started my career in health and social care straight from school, joining the NHS at Scunthorpe General Hospital. Over the following decade, I held a range of roles within the NHS, including time across Acute Medical and Surgical Wards, Community Care, Research & Development and the Emergency Care Practitioner team - work that regularly brought me into care homes across the area. It was through this work that I first got to know The Valleys, and the home made a lasting impression.

I joined The Valleys as Deputy Manager in July 2023 and stepped up to Home Manager in January 2024. I am a hands-on manager with a real passion for both my team and my residents - and even in a home of 84 rooms, I make it my business to know every resident and their family personally.
