  • The Valleys Care Home, Scunthorpe
The Valleys is a purpose-built residential care home with an adjoining Day Care Centre, set within the Lakeside and Timberland community in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire - a well-connected and friendly neighbourhood close to the Lakeside Shopping Centre and the popular Ashby Ville area. The home opened in 2007 and joined the Oak Tree Care Group in September 2025 alongside its sister home Bunkers Hill in Lincoln. Over the years, The Valleys has built warm and lasting relationships with local schools, colleges and community organisations - it is genuinely embedded in the life of the area around it, and that sense of belonging is something the home takes real pride in.

The Valleys provides residential and dementia care for up to 84 residents across 84 single rooms set over two floors, organised across four thoughtfully named suites - Pearl, Ruby, Diamond and Sapphire - including a dedicated suite for those living with more advanced dementia. Each suite has its own communal lounge and dining area, creating a homely and familiar feel within the wider home. Beautifully landscaped gardens give residents a range of pleasant outdoor spaces to relax, socialise and spend time with family and friends.

The home supports adults aged 45 and over across a broad range of needs, including dementia, mental health, physical disability, sensory impairment, stroke support, convalescent and palliative care. A dedicated activity team tailors a monthly programme around residents' individual interests, and residents are always encouraged to have a real say in what goes on - because this is their home. The Valleys also has a fully operational day care centre with its own independent entrance, offering older people the opportunity to enjoy activities, meals and company during the day before returning home each evening.

Whenever I visit my mother everyone is so friendly, they all make time to speak to you. The standard of care is second to none. They always inform me of any changes in my mother's condition, it puts my mind at ease knowing she's well cared for. Laundry could be better.

When you enter the premises you are greeted with friendly smiles and a warm welcome. The staff and care workers are first class. I have total confidence that our loved one is being lovingly cared for. Only one concern, the laundry should improve.

All I can say is that everybody I have come in contact with are very caring for both my husband (respite) and myself. When I am in need of respite, they can find a room within days - this helps me enormously.

The care staff have been excellent and have looked after Mum very well. Most of them have built up a rapport with Mum and enjoy having a laugh with her. The care home has kept us informed if Mum has been under the weather or has had any other difficulties or doctor's appointments etc. Any queries we
have raised with the care home have been addressed and resolved effectively and efficiently.

My experience so far has been positive regarding the care received for my mother. Any requests have always been acted upon quickly. The cleanliness and nutrition of the care home is to an excellent standard. The staff have always been accommodating and friendly. The only area I would like to see improvement
on is returning clothes to the correct resident, although I do appreciate this can be difficult. When I have raised this it has always been rectified. Mum has hair and nails done and staff take her out.

Since my father came into The Valleys with vascular dementia and was upstairs at first, I must admit it was a bit scary up there but the staff reassured you and put you at ease. The Valley is very professional and I couldn't fault them, they are very attentive and put the parents needs first and foremost
and nothing is a problem for them. They are very caring and have a positive approach to the patient, it can be difficult for them as we all well know, but as my dad is now bedridden and downstairs in the Brimby unit, the staff are still loyal, caring and nothing is a problem to help the patient, they should get paid more for what they do. Thank you.

The Valleys is a modern, bright, well-secured care home which is well equipped. The staff are friendly and supportive and meet you every need no matter how personal whilst ensuring that you retain maximum dignity.
I do not have mobility for a couple of months but in other respects do have capacity.
I cannot fault the level of care I receive; all aspects are conducted to the highest standards.
The home fully deserves it's CQC rating of 'Good'. (I have checked!)

My dad was placed here on the emergency hospitalisation of my mum. Initially for a week but actually being her for 10 weeks in total. The staff got to know him quickly and were very kind and caring. The room was spacious and had an ensuite. It was great to have the added benefit of 24 hours nursing
care if needed. It was sad to leave such a caring environment both for dad and myself. I will miss the staff.

My mum was here at The Valleys for approx 6 weeks respite care. Although most of the day staff seemed caring and kind, the night staff were unkind and a bit abrupt and sometimes not very nice to my mum (according to what she told me). The overall standard of care wasn't that good and my mum was often
in dirty clothes when I visited and often her sheets on her bed were dirty. The smell of urine on her unit was overpowering too!

The Valley care home has a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere and I am pleased my mother has been placed here. The staff are outgoing , open and friendly which is just what the residents need ,this includes the cleaners who are very kind . There is lots of space and a very pleasant outdoor area filled
with sunshine but with a safe feel to it . The decor is soothing and the food is superb . There is a relaxed ,easygoing feel about the place. Also, the place smells nice too !

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.264)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.264) out of 10 for The Valleys Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.665 for The Valleys Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (142 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 167 Ratings = 4.665
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.599 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Valleys Care Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 84 registered maximum number of service users is 16.8. 13 Positive Reviews ÷ 16.8 = 0.774
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2023

Hello, my name is Alice, I am the home manager of The Valleys.

I started my career in health and social care straight from school, joining the NHS at Scunthorpe General Hospital. Over the following decade, I held a range of roles within the NHS, including time across Acute Medical and Surgical Wards, Community Care, Research & Development and the Emergency Care Practitioner team - work that regularly brought me into care homes across the area. It was through this work that I first got to know The Valleys, and the home made a lasting impression.

I joined The Valleys as Deputy Manager in July 2023 and stepped up to Home Manager in January 2024. I am a hands-on manager with a real passion for both my team and my residents - and even in a home of 84 rooms, I make it my business to know every resident and their family personally.
