Long Meadow

I had an appointment to visit my mother today. All the staff I met were very helpful and wore obviously very affectionate towards Mum. Mum has advanced dementia (Alzhiemers) and therefore needs a lot of assistance since she can no longer walk unaided. I am very happy with the excellent care she received today and the excellent level of cleanliness that I saw in the home.

My wife and I cannot speak highly enough regarding the staff and management of Long Meadow. They cared so much for my mother-in-law in the last few weeks of her life when we moved her to Matlock to be near us. The home is run professionally and balances that with an open and caring manner. My mother-in-law had a large room which was well appointed and we are sure she would have been happy here long term. The current manager is worthy of particular note. She was extraordinarily helpful and kind during our first few days after first contact right up to the most difficult of days very recently. She is a real credit to the organisation. We were always made a coffee when we arrived by staff attending the hot drinks and the food was excellent, tasting properly homemade and lovely. We can recommend Long Meadow without hesitation. They really looked after a loved member of our family and we will always be grateful to the whole staff.

But more staff is required.

Mum had several weeks respite care at Long Meadow pending a care package at home. She settled in well and always spoke highly of the staff. Her room was bright with lovely views and had everything she needed. She had choices of lounges to sit in depending on if she wanted company or quiet time and made very good friends with one particular resident. The dining room is large and welcoming and Mum often had a late breakfast as she doesn't like to get up too early. There are visits from a hairdresser and chiropodist which Mum took advantage of. We always felt that Mum was safe and that the staff cared about her. The only issue we had was sometimes it took a while to be let in or out but we fully understand that the safety of the residents is paramount.

Very welcoming. Management and staff encourage participation but with understanding. Ethos is "it is the resident's home and all other guests, residents and staff have come to visit the individual".

Whilst the staff are very kind but understaffed. She needs more supervision and assistance. Often she will go to bed fully dressed but wet! She can be a difficult woman and hard to deal with. Surely that is what a dementia home specialises in. The residents need more stimulation, more than a television blaring out.

I am extremely satisfied with the service, personal care and support my mum receives from the staff and carers at Long Meadow. My mum has been a resident for nearly 12 months. The care, dignity, social activities she has is constantly outstanding.

My mum is very happy and content and this is brilliant to see. She has vascular dementia and Alzheimer's and needs to have constant care. The staff and carers make sure she is cared for. They do this meeting her individual needs they are professional and look after her as though she was their mum! Lovely, thank you!

My Aunty is the third member of my family to reside at Long Meadow (Maternal Grandfather, Paternal Grandmother, Maternal Aunt) and we've always been welcomed in a friendly manner and all residents are treated with respect and there always appears to be someone on hand to deal with any issues that arise.

I'm very happy with the care that is given to my sister, the manager is excellent and the staff are always welcoming and friendly.

I have never had any problems with my reception there and feel this resident, in early stages of dementia, and is very well looked after now for over 2 1/2 years.

Overall we are quite pleased with the care mum receives. The previous manager was very good although a bit lacking in some areas when he wasn't there. Since his long absence, the new management has continued well. Some of the care staff could do a bit better and I think constant supervision should be in the lounges. I have been in there for over an hour sometimes and not seen anyone and had to look for a staff member for a resident, it is always worse at weekends.

I have always found the staff helpful and friendly. Despite the difficult job which they do, most seem to keep a smile on their faces.

They are always ready to answer any questions. The office staff were very helpful in providing a letter that a building society required.

It is good to know that Dad is in a safe, caring place, where the staff do all they can to achieve this.

It's a wonderful home. I couldn't wish for anywhere better for my mum. The staff and management are fantastic.

Excellent in all services and staff are extremely fabulous.

I attended the garden party this month, it was a fantastic day and a credit to everyone that works at Long Meadow.

My dad has lived at Long Meadow since April 2016. Dad thinks he's at a hotel on holiday and doesn't wish to go home, staff go the extra mile for him and others fantastic home with fantastic views.

Just over a year ago my mother had to be admitted to a care home due to her declining mental health. She had virtually stopped eating and was paranoid, delusional and unhappy and she definitely didn't want to live in a care home.

After a lot of searching and disappointments, we found Long Meadow. It is not a new slick type building but the way my mother is treated more than makes up for that. She is treated with dignity, care and love, her room is lovely the view is great with both a well-kept garden and a lovely country view (the local steam trains even go past!). The words 'care' and 'home' definitely apply here.

In herself my mother is very happy to be there, she absolutely loves all the staff who in turn seem to try hard to look after her. She is far more aware than she was at home and I often feel lifted after a visit.

The issues and problems that inevitably come up are usually handled very well with consideration for both me and my mother.

I really can't thank the staff enough.

They have always presented a unified professional caring service which I would be happy to recommend.
