My husband was given a nice welcome and during his 2 week stay for rehabilitation was treated by an extremely friendly team of carers. They were very kind and very considerate and when he needed medical help, they had his interest at heart. One person "in particular", (a care leader) is extremely helpful
with regard to seizures. She was wonderful. I thank them all very much.

My husband moved into Geroge Hythe House in December 2015, he has dementia. The staff are very caring and understand my husband very well. There is a family atmosphere in the home and a lot of affection for residents. The home is well run and the current management team seem very competent and professional.
There is regular entertainment and during the summer day trips out. I don't think other care homes could improve on the care given to my husband at George Hythe.

This is an amazing care home. There are some brilliant staff here who treat my mum like a family member. There's nice home cooked food every day in a homely dining room. There's entertainment in the main lounge every week that you can join in with and they gave mum a birthday party. I'd be happy to
stay here someday and my mum is no longer fearful of the idea of staying in a care home.

My mam has been in George Hythe House since June 2016. It did take her a while to settle in. She has good days and bad days.
The staff are very good and know a hug and a cup of tea and biscuits helps.
When we have a problem at the home we bring it to the attention of staff and management.

My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2007 and was admitted full time into George Hythe House in March 2015. She was quickly absorbed into the family atmosphere of the home. The staff clearly pick up on their client's characters in order to maximise their interest in them and their backgrounds.
Clients
agreeable to take part in day trips and enjoy visiting entertainers and frequent occasions for celebrations. Staff demonstrated thorough commitment to my wife by going with her on urgent trips to hospital appointments when I was not available. A comprehensive care plan was accessible to me for checking and updating. Staff are well trained, sensitive, courteous, very caring and conduct themselves with good humour at all times. I cannot imagine what a better care home would be like.

George Hythe House cared for my dad for 6 years.

Have been a couple of problems but were corrected immediately. Dad had many problems and illnesses. All needs were met right up to dad's death. Staff couldn't have done any more for him. Lovely care home.

My father was in here for several years. He was very happy there. We did have a few problems there but were sorted and we were very happy with. Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly. Staff were very supportive to us when my dad was at the end of life.

My dad was at this home for about 6 years, he was very happy here. If ever we had a problem the staff here were always ready to help.

The care he received was very good. There was always something for my dad to do, should he choose to. The staff were always very welcoming when we visited dad.

When

my dad passed away in June, we could not have asked for any more of the staff. They were excellent.

My Mum is very well cared for at George Hythe House, she is treated kindly and with dignity. Her needs are catered for adequately and safely and the staff are always friendly and helpful. The home is purpose built and the rooms are pleasant and roomy. Residents are encouraged to join in activities
in the lounge and day trips are organised on a regular basis for those residents able to take part. Staff undertake regular training. There is the excellent Holmfield Day Centre on the same site which some residents are able to attend. There is a regular routine at the home which I feel benefits the residents. Hairdressing, Chiropody and Optical services are available. My Mum has always been happy at the home and appreciates the support and company she receives.

My grandad has been well looked after since moving into George Hythe House. Carers maintain his routine by taking him out when he chooses, making sure he has his morning newspaper, which is very important to my grandad's routine. Staff and residents have made my grandad feel so welcome and comfortable.

My husband was at George Hythe House for two weeks respite. It was the first time he had been for respite. We had looked at quite a few different care homes which were either unsuitable or a waiting list. The first time I went to George Hythe I was impressed with the atmosphere, a calming happy feeling.
My husband is quite difficult and didn't settle for the first few nights but the staff were very good and did not mind me ringing up at least once a day. The activities for the residents helped my husband and the closeness to the day centre which meant he could carry on attending there. I liked the idea each room had a 'front' door with a bell, the kitchens for each area meant meal times were more like family times instead of the large dining rooms we had seen before. My husband is returning in May for another visit and I am happy that he will settle and be well looked after making it easier for me to have my 'respite'.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.404)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.404) out of 10 for George Hythe House Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.504 for George Hythe House Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.504
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for George Hythe House Residential Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
