Southernwood House is situated is approximately half an acre of grounds and is located in a quiet suburb of Spalding and is within easy reach of the town centre and close to all amenities. An elegant 1920's built, detached, two storey property. It has been, for the most part, sympathetically extended over the years. The property fronts Matmore Gate, with two access points to a surfaced parking area for some eight to ten cars. There are attractive gardens to the rear of the home, incorporating a summer house.
The most recent two-storey extension was added in 1987, which increased the number of available rooms. There are fourteen (14) single rooms on the ground floor & (1) Double room all with easy level access. There are also six (6) single and one (1) double bedroom on the first floor. The first floor is accessed by conventional stairs or by a separately elevating stair lift. Many of the rooms have been equipped with En-Suite facilities.
In addition, care workers are currently extending the Home to incorporate 4 extra Single en suite rooms and a Day Care Centre.

Our weekly fees cover accommodation, all meals and refreshments, personal care and support, housekeeping, laundry, activities and use of communal facilities. Additional personal services such as hairdressing, chiropody, specialist treatments and personal items are charged separately. We also provide a comprehensive procurement service, allowing residents to conveniently order personal shopping and everyday items, with orders organised and managed by our Head Office team. We can also assist with arranging specialist care, treatments and other individual personal needs.

The staff are really good with the residents they were very helpfully when I took my mum in there. My mum loves being in there and made some new friends and she likes all the staff who work there. She has fun with everyone and she has settled really well. She likes to join in with most things.

Both my mum and dad moved into Southernwood House last November. Both had been living locally at home. My mum has been admitted to hospital so this was an emergency situation for my dad who couldn’t cope at home. The staff at the care home supported not just my parents but for me and my family through this challenging time. Later mum joined dad and they spent the last few months of mums life enjoying each other and more relaxed than they had been for ages now they were comfortable and so well looked after. Dad’s health has improved more than we thought possible. And we believe they have been happy. Dad has a tv in his room so he has a personal space as well as new friends. The staff are very patient and caring.

My wife and I came to visit my mother on 22nd June we are from out of the area, so thought best to ring as we got nearer to check if it was ok to just turn up and also to bring our dog in. I am extremely pleased with every aspect of care which my mother receives at Southernwood House. All the staff are very kind, caring and friendly, whilst displaying the utmost professionalism at all times. My mother is now nearly 99 years old and has lived at the home for about 3 years. Her needs are very well catered for in every way and she is always treated with kindness and respect for her dignity. The meals provided always look delicious and there is a varied menu for dinner and tea from which to choose every day. My mother is very well looked after and is happy and settled, which gives me much peace of mind. I am very grateful indeed to the manager and all the staff for everything they do. I would not hesitate to recommend Southernwood House to others.

On bringing my father-in- law to the care home in an emergency, due to my mother-in-law taken to hospital we arrived and were met by two friendly carers and this continued, on arrival we were asked to give details on our father-in-law and we left clothes for him (we were not told to write in them...
Until my father was sent to another care home two days later, we found he had no sock on his feet and just shoes and clothes missing, the follow up on finding the clothes was disarray and one didn't know what the other was doing. My husband was very anxious. Outcome half have been sent back and due to not being named as not told and an emergency, we will not get reimbursed for the two remaining missing.

The missing clothing that you have mentioned had all been dealt with and sent. It is therefore very unfortunate that you have decided to utilise a review to highlight an issue which we had thought had been dealt with. These reviews have an impact on our care and management team, who I believe on this occasion have been rated unfairly on the actual quality of care that had been delivered.
