- Ashdown House is a 24 hour service. Residents families can visit at any time of day, this is their home. The team would ask visitors to be mindful of mealtimes especially Lunchtime 12:30pm to 13.30pm and would politely request that visits are not undertaken at this time

In April 2025 mum realised she needed help, and when arrangements were made for her to stay here from May 2025, it was a great relief for my brother and I.

In April 2025 mum realised she needed help, and when arrangements were made for her to stay here from May 2025, it was a great relief for my brother and I.
Mum took a little time to settle and she could be difficult at times, wanting her own way, but the staff coped and eventually with their brilliant smiles and attention to detail, won her round.
Mum even took part in some of the group activities and enjoyed the craft sessions, even joining in to play bingo.
I can honestly say that this care home is well led and have very caring staff at every level, cleaners, cooks, carers and managers all working together as a lovely team.

Mum passed in February 2026, and the end of life care was brilliant from all the staff, it's a shame that the local NHS and DHU/Marie Currie services were not better co-ordinated and reacted so slowly to mum's needs! (The nursing staff of these two organisations were brilliant, however on the call doctors were not!)

I confess, I had reservations about Mum being in any care home, and I was fully prepared to do battle to get the best care for mum. But the staff at Ashdown House were incredible and I cannot fault the care and services she received.

My father has been a resident in Ashdown House for nearly a year. He has enjoyed the activities and social interaction since he arrived, albeit within the limitations of his illness. My father has been a resident in Ashdown House for nearly a year. He has enjoyed the activities and social interaction since he arrived, albeit within the limitations of his illness. His dementia is advanced now and he requires a higher level of care in the last few months, which they have willing given.
We cannot praise the staff enough. They are kind and caring , fully invested in making Dads life as comfortable and pleasant as possible. They are also very supportive of us, his family as we navigate the progressive nature of Dads condition, answering our concerns however trivial. Dad is well cared for and treated with respect and understanding. All members of staff from the domestic staff , the cooks, handyman , occupational staff, carers and senior carers and the Management are welcoming , inclusive and invested in the welfare of the residents.

My mother in law has been at Ashdown house now for a year. The staff are lovely and have turned this place into home from home for the residents, there is always a lovely atmosphere and it is spotless.

My Brother moved into Ashdown following a stroke which we thought would be a struggle for him as he had lived on his own completely independent. He loves it, he is very happy there, and has a superb relationship with all the carers. Some family live away and are always able to see how he is through...
My Brother moved into Ashdown following a stroke which we thought would be a struggle for him as he had lived on his own completely independent. He loves it, he is very happy there, and has a superb relationship with all the carers. Some family live away and are always able to see how he is through the many photos and videos put onto social with the many activities taking place. The manager is a joy and always accessible to chat with about anything, and is always seen really involved with all staff and residents. I always feel welcome when I visit with a lovely cup of tea. What a fabulous job they all do, thank you everyone.

My mother came to live here. She struggled at home and couldn't manage herself. She was very reluctant to go into a care setting. She settled very well and made friends quickly. The staff have been amazing. I can't visit often as don't live near. But i have no concerns as i know she is looked after...

Following a period of high staff turnover and fairly average care quality the new management team have driven a spectacular improvement and set themselves high standards to ensure this is maintained.
The communication channels have been vastly improved with feedback from relatives positively encouraged. Issues are dealt with swiftly and with due consideration of service user needs. Staffing levels have improved to become a stable working team, allowing users to really get to know their carers.

The actual 'bricks and mortar' facilities are not 5-star but are effectively utilised and constantly improving.
