Situated in Kingsthorpe, Boughton Lodge Care Home is less than two miles from Northampton City Centre with great transport links.

Boughton Lodge is a domestic house that has been converted to provide a residential care home for people requiring a home due to difficulties and infirmities, including a form of dementia.

Their aim is to provide those residents with a ‘home from home’ in a secure, relaxed and comfortable environment.

The home has 17 bedrooms set across two floors with a stair chair lift for ease of access to the first floor. The majority of rooms have en-suite toilet and wash basins and some are fitted with walk- in showers. The bedrooms are the resident's private space and are encouraged to personalise their rooms. The home provides all the furniture they should require but if residents prefer to bring their own they may do so.

Residents have a choice of two lounges to relax and socialise in, as well as secure patio areas to overlook the gardens of the home.

Landscaped gardens wrap around the home, providing areas for relaxing and socialising outdoors, with certain areas being secure for those with dementia.

Nutritious food plays a big role in keeping older, vulnerable people in good health. The home provides high-quality food which is prepared on-site with choices available for residents to choose from. Special dietary requirements are catered for including gluten free diets and diabetics.

At Boughton Lodge, staff are trained to provide residents with care and support using a person-centred approach. They aim to provide activities that residents will enjoy by consulting with residents and families. Activities may consist of a number of in-home activities as well as regular external excursions.

Boughton Lodge has a purpose-built hairdressing salon where the hairdresser visits twice a week. There are regular visits from chiropodists and opticians.

The minute I walked into this home in February 2016, it felt homely and inviting. It does not have too many residents which I think is why it is right for my Aunt. The staff are helpful and friendly. The family know that she is being well looked after.

A lovely homely feel. The rooms are cleaned daily and personal belongings such as photographs are respected. Food wise, residents are offered a varied menu. Residents can request snacks and they are offered snacks with their hot drinks. Staff make time to answer any queries. Good atmosphere.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.345) out of 10 for Boughton Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.306 for Boughton Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (14 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.306
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.039 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Boughton Lodge Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 3.8 = 0.789
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2025

I have dedicated my entire career to helping and supporting people at every stage of their lives. I began as a Nursery Practitioner and Baby Room Leader, building a strong foundation in early years care before moving into mental health services as a Support Worker, working with both inpatients and outpatients. I then progressed into children’s residential homes and worked alongside Social Services, completing detailed assessments and writing reports for court. My journey has also included supporting elderly residents in residential care homes, where I discovered a particular passion for safeguarding and end-of-life care.

Starting in residential care as a Carer, I worked my way up to Senior Care Assistant, then Team Leader, and now serve proudly in my role as Home Manager. Each step has strengthened my leadership skills and deepened my commitment to providing compassionate, person-centred care. I hold a qualification in Performing Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Community Work, and I am currently working towards my NVQ Level 5 in Leadership and Management. Above all, my passion has always been — and continues to be — helping those in need. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling and taking mini breaks with my loved ones, creating special memories together.

My name is Elaine, and I am the activities coordinator here at Boughton Lodge. Throughout my career, I have always enjoyed being creative. But it wasn't until my husband purchased a shop in Daventry and we moved to Northampton that I secured a job that would enable me to travel the world and use this creativity. It was my job to arrange bespoke travel programmes for my clients and enable them to engage in experiences of a lifetime. Every tiny detail had to be considered, but the reward of seeing the clients' faces was worth every long hour we worked. I was in this job for nearly 20 years until, due to personal circumstances, I had to change jobs, and I moved to the health and care sector and worked for a charity providing independent and affordable living for older people. It was the best job in the world, where I arranged activities for over 300 residents, even taking them on holiday. After 14 years, the charity was taken over, and I moved to NGH for nearly 4 years and then needed to work part-time. This is when I came to Boughton Lodge. It was like walking into a family of caring, wonderful staff that created an atmosphere that hugs you as soon as you walk through the front door. It is my job to engage with the residents as a group and as individuals to enable them to fulfil their day with meaningful, enjoyable and most importantly, person-centred activities. We have a weekly planner of what activities we will indulge in, but it is always totally flexible. Our residents are not here to fit in with our timetable; we are here to fit into theirs. If we have planned noodle hockey, but they want to sing their hearts out on karaoke, so be it. If I have organised a quiet craft session and they decide they want to form their own rock band, then that's what we will do. The residents here at Boughton Lodge love animals and live entertainment. We have had penguins, miniature donkeys and a farm visit the Lodge along with Flossy, our PAT dog who visits each week.

We take time to listen to our residents, understand their needs and what they enjoy. They are all different, and yes, maybe they might not remember the following day what they did, BUT they will remember how we made them feel.

Personal facts - I have a husky dog licence and can legally take members of the public on a sledge, I have met a real Santa Claus, I have met Richard Branson, who is my hero, I am extremely accident-prone, and intend to write a book about my mishaps when I retire. I like writing poetry.
