I just love the care and attention by all the staff that is shown to the residents and how comfortable you can approach them. There are always lots of activities and entertainment. I do think though that more staff is needed to be able to give extra attention to those who most need it.

All lovely and welcoming staff. They made a cake for my grandma's birthday and a card and always pop their head in when I'm there to say hello and make my grandma laugh. I always hear laughter from the staff and everybody is always in good spirits!

I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff at Knightswood, everybody is very friendly, and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. My dad moved in June 2023 and is very happy with everything. I feel more secure knowing that Dad is looked after 24/7 by a wonderful team. The house is set in
lovely surroundings with large gardens. Staff organise events for the residents, singers, exercise classes etc. I would like to personally thank everybody at Knightswood, couldn't ask for better.

My father has been in Kinghtswood since April 2023. It is very reassuring to know that he is being cared for around the clock by people he is getting to know well. The staff are all amazing, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. He has a comfortable room and the food is wonderful and very tasty.
I couldn't have found a better home, especially as it's so local for me. I can't thank everyone enough for their kindness.

My sister and I visited Knightswood as a possible permanent home for Mum. As soon as we walked into the hall and were greeted by the staff, we knew it was the perfect placement. Mum's admission was well-managed and efficient. The staff are amazing and treat Mum as one of their own. Dignity, respect,
humour, consideration, caring, encouragement and reassurance.

My mum was cared for by Knightswood for the last 6 months of her life. The staff were exceptional and I cannot praise them highly enough. They were always friendly and positive, creating a nice environment in difficult circumstances (CV-19). A special mention for one member of staff, in particular,
who's as mad as a box of frogs but a lovely lovely lady!

We made the difficult decision after my mum had fallen and lost a lot of her mobility that we could not cope at home. Due to Covid I went with a personal recommendation and the website to enquire at Knightswood. I was impressed by the attitude and clear description of life in the home and the initial
isolation of two weeks. My mum has not found the move easy at 95 years old but she is now settling in and mixing with the residents. The help I have received from the manager and the staff has been great.

We thank you for taking the time to leave a review and for trusting us to look after your mum especially in these very troubling times and we hope she continues to enjoy her stay.

My mum was very well cared for and happy at Knightswood Care Home during her 3 years as a resident.
She settled down as quickly as could be expected given her dementia and soon felt at home - I could see this in her eyes. She particularly enjoyed the music activities and the times when children visited,
as this reminded her of her time as a teacher.
My wife and I were always made welcome, even at times the staff had a lot on their plates. It was always fun to chat with residents. Usually something going on, such as keep fit, bingo and sing-a-longs. From Las Vegas-style glammed up divas to smoothie Michael Bublé style singers, the music was always entertaining!
Knightswood is not the biggest or fanciest care home, but has a lovely, homely feel, with a manager and staff who really care. This was particularly clear in the immense effort the staff have made during the Covid 19 lockdown.
I would recommend Knightswood to friends and family without hesitation.

My mother is now nearing her end of life. She has been well cared for. The staff show compassion and empathy and have been supportive to family as well as the resident over the seven years she has been here. The care home have looked after my mother several times after falls, illness and visits to hospital
instead of staying in hospital. They have cared for her extremely well.
The home is clean, free from odours and this has been the case over many years (all the time). I have also recommended the care home to friends who have also had family here. Thank you for looking after our mother and family.

My mother is well looked after here in Knightswood. The staff and management are excellent and very caring, they show great patience with her which is very necessary due to her condition. The home is very secure and both myself and father are very satisfied with her care and communication is good. There
is regular visits from other care professionals such as Chiropodist, Optician, Hairdresser and there is regular entertainment. My mother is not the best of eaters but the food provided is very good and staff always encourage my mother to eat.

Knightswood is bright, cheerful and welcoming. Staff are caring, knowledgeable and capable of dealing with many upsetting, demanding and difficult situations. Staff engage with residents, show respect to all visitors and staff include everyone as much as possible in any activities.
They are most helpful

I placed my mum in Knightswood on December 19th, 2016, after both her and myself not being happy with her last care facility. Well, what can I say? Mum is a changed person! The staff are fantastic they can't do enough for our mother, what a difference we cannot fault this place at all. The manager is
a lovely lady the carers treat mum with dignity and respect there are loads of activities and it's very homely.

An attractive building in a quiet very pleasant area of the village of Blackrod. In a rural setting with outstanding views towards West Pennine Moors and Rivington Pike. There are lovely garden areas accessible to all residents.
The interior of the care home is exceptionally clean and tidy well decorated
and furnished.
The communal areas of the dining room, lounge and orangery are like a home from home.
The care and attention from the staff that each resident receives 24/7 is fantastic. There is a homely and welcoming feel about the home and the best care home that I have seen of visited.

The staff make a good or negative experience in any social care settings and here they genuinely care. The home facilities are clean and welcoming with a choice of seating areas. Relatives are well informed of changes in health or care needs. The care planning is person-centered and flexible. Personal
care is of a good standard and residents are offered a choice in how they are supported to maintain independence.

My father had been in Knightswood since April of 2013. During that time the level of care and expertise was never less than excellent. My father, being 95, had all the age related difficulties expected i.e mobility etc, plus dementia. Whenever the family visited we were welcomed by all and dad was always
clean, shaved, changed and obviously well looked after. He recently died at the home, with ourselves in attendance, where father was treated with great dignity and the support we received was outstanding.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.193)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.193) out of 10 for Knightswood Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.767 for Knightswood Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.767
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.426 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Knightswood Residential Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.4 = 0.926
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
