Reviews

7.7 Walshaw Hall has a Review Score of 7.7 (7.709)

The Review Score of 7.7 (maximum of 10) for Walshaw Hall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 23 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Walshaw Hall in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.609 for Walshaw Hall is calculated as follows: ( (187 Excellents x 5) + (68 Goods x 4) + (18 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 274 Ratings = 4.609

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.1 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Walshaw Hall is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 = 3

    2. Target of 10 positive Reviews (50 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 1 Reviews ÷ 10 Target = 0.100

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Walshaw Hall residential is superb. Amazing carers and wider staff from the kitchen to the management, tailored care, lovely environment, very good quality food and a genuine sense of a home away from home. Dad has settled there much better than we ever anticipated because the carers are so wonderful. I've looked at so many care homes and this one alongside Heathlands stand out above the crowd. So grateful and thank you to all staff.

Mum has been resident in The Beeches since October and has at all times been treated with the utmost dignity and respect by staff and management.

As a regular visitor to The Beeches, I have witnessed first hand how well the staff get to know the residents, and balance meeting their care needs with their right to independence, respect and to be treated as individuals. In hand with this, care plans are comprehensive and continually updated. Facilities are first rate - bedrooms are comfortable, a good size and well furnished, with en suite wet rooms; Communal areas are spacious and bright.

In my experience, The Beeches take a very genuine and proactive approach to the care given to their residents, whilst also offering much-needed support to residents' families. It is thanks to the dedicated efforts of the entire team that mum has been able to settle in so well. I am extremely grateful to all at The Beeches for giving me the peace of mind that mum is safe, well looked after and happy.

Walshaw Hall is an excellent care home in all respects. The staff are professional well qualified to meet the many and varied needs of the residents. My mum's general health, well-being and confidence have improved noticeably since moving to live here. The wide variety of activities and events, beautiful grounds and tastefully decorated accommodation all adding to the overall high standards. With an ethos of care and respect, evident from management through to all staff. Walshaw Hall is well organised in all aspects of daily life. The move here was the best my mum could make- an amazing place deserving recognition! Many thanks!

I cannot fault this care home. From arrival to the current date, the facilities, staff and management are excellent, putting my dad's care needs first. It has given him his dignity back. It is obvious the staff are trained in this specialist area of dementia, treating residents with empathy, understanding, compassion and respect.

My Mum is a resident of The Beeches Dementia Care Home. The staff are excellent. They are kind, respectful and have a sense of humour. My Mum likes to walk and is free to walk around the home and out into the secure garden which keeps her independent and healthy. I am always kept up-to-date with my Mum's care and contacted if any issues arise. An excellent all round service is provided by the manager and all of her team.

Mum was very reluctant to become a care home resident but from the very beginning staff. Have made her feel comfortable and safe. They have made her feel "at home" as much as it is possible to do so. Staff have enough medical knowledge to be able to identify problems and are keen to help patients get appropriate care. Lovely views, well-maintained grounds, an adequate bedroom and an exciting food menu are all a credit to this hard-working team.

My mother-in-law transferred to The Beeches from Walshaw Hall in March 2016 due to her fairly advanced Alzheimer's disease. The calm atmosphere at The Beeches, with its beautiful rooms and views, has had a very positive effect on my mother in law's general wellbeing. The staff are kind and considerate and I feel confident that she is safe and well cared for.

When my sister developed dementia all the family were very keen for her to be looked after at The Beeches and we have not been disappointed. The building is a new build and is superb. The management and all the staff are really good. They are very caring and approachable and treat everyone with respect. The bedrooms are really lovely with en-suite wet rooms. Overall we cannot fault The Beeches and would happily recommend it to anyone.

Staff at Walshaw Hall Residential Home are very approachable and give good care and support and treat mum with dignity. The manager always makes herself available if you have any concerns or issues to discuss and follow things through if things need to be looked at with staff to help improve mum's wellbeing etc. The home is in a beautiful location and residents are able to sit outside and enjoy the pleasant surroundings. There is a good choice of food and all dietary needs are met. The bedrooms are always clean and tidy. Various activities are held during the week. The main thing is how mum is looked after and I would say overall it is very good.

My husband and I visited ' The Beeches' during an open day. We were very impressed with the modern buildings. The rooms are light and airy. Each bedroom has its own modern shower room. Residents have access to the beautiful gardens and spacious lounges. My husband who has Dementia went into 'The Beeches' for respite to give me a break. He settled so well I began to make a difficult decision of long time care. He is now a resident. I am very happy with his care. The staff are caring and treat each resident according to their individual needs. all receive expert care and are kept safe and happy.

My wife has Frontal Temporal Dementia and is in The Beeches for respite care. It is a brand new home and the standard of everything is top class. The place is light and airy and it has a wonderful, secure, large garden. The place has a relaxed feel and the staff are all very good and show real patience in dealing with the residents.

The Beeches Care home has made the pain of coping with my wife's progressive disease of Alzheimer's more bearable will the care and compassion they have shown us. The Beeches is a splendid environment to reside in, so charming, spacious and comfortable.
The design gives residents and relatives a warm feeling when being there. The staff need a special mention for all the pleasant, love and and care they give to the residents. I would not hesitate to recommend the quality of service and the excellent environment to anyone.

My husband has been in Walshaw Hall for 3 years and 7 months. During this time if there have been any health issues the local GP and the family are informed at once. He is visited every day at various times and we have never found anything amiss. He is treated as an individual. My husband is confined to a wheelchair his choice and ours and at all times is free to roam around the home.

My wife was booked in Walshaw Hall for respite for 2 weeks in September 2015. Her stay lasted until April this year when she moved into the new The Beeches for dementia. At all times was looked after with love and affection. My mind was put at rest when I realised that she was getting better care than I could have ever given. Visiting is whenever you want as long as you want. I try to go everyday, sometimes I have meals with her. The Beeches doesn't come cheap but I am more than happy with the way she is looked after.

I am now aged 95 and I came to this care home just after I had turned 90, for my age I really feel very well, but of course there has been times when I have needed more help than usual. I get asthma attacks. But the care I get here is excellent. I am in a beautiful room on the ground floor, and the staff are wonderful. We get so much attention, a bath or shower when we need it, we have a hairdresser on the premises. If we need a Doctor or Dentist one of the seniors see to it.

My husband has been using care homes for the last six years and Walshaw Hall is the only one he is content to stay and comes home clean and happy. Most of the staff are helpful some not so good, he has Parkinson's and dementia and quite demanding. We know he is well looked after. Sometimes when we go he has food on his front but this happens at home. I was a nursing sister 60 years ago, I am very observant and watch carefully I would send him again without hesitation. At the moment we are happy but things do change.

My father was in this care home for one weeks respite care. As a visitor I found the staff to be pleasant and interested, asking questions regarding my fathers preferences to where he ate, what time he liked to get up and go to bed etc. We did have a few issues however after being told my dad was an early riser (7am) most mornings no one had been into him before 9am. He is 82 and a recent amputee, he also has prostate cancer which has spread to the spine making it painful to spend too long in one position also needed hoisting out of bed. On one occasion no tea was brought to my dads room and I rang the next morning, staff went to apologise immediately but this should not happen.

My mother has been a resident in this home for the past four years. She suffers from Alzheimer's and has always expressed positive personal experience of her care and wellbeing. the home is always clean, food excellent, care staff appear friendly, warm, caring and helpful. I am always informed when health care issues occur and am told of doctors visits, change in medication etc. My mother is always clean and well groomed. Her bedroom is always immaculate. Personal care includes hairdressing, podiatry and manicures. Only negative concern is I would like to see more stimulating creative activities undertaken as she does seem to spend a lot of time sleeping in her chair.

My father has been a resident at Walshaw Hall since July 2013, during which time he has been very well cared for. He is generally very happy and treated with dignity and respect by his carers. He is escorted by a carer to all his hospital appointments of his GP's visit him regularly at Walshaw Hall. He particularly enjoys residents outings and in house entertainment, chair exercises and musical events are his favourites. He would like to attend religious services but doesn't enjoy then because they generally for all religion and he is C of E!
