Mum came to stay at Bickham House following a series of falls in her own home and, after discussing at length with the senior staff, she decided to stay. It’s a lovely homely home, with an excellent senior team, and kind and friendly carers. We feel reassured that mum is safe and treated with dignity. She has the freedom to do her own thing but has help whenever she needs it. The food is very good with plenty of choices, and the chef is happy to accommodate lateness if we’ve been out to an appointment, or just out for fun. I’d definitely recommend Bickham House to anyone thinking of moving into residential accommodation.

My gran moved into Bickham House at the beginning of this year. We were constantly worried when she was home alone. Bickham House has enabled us to not worry as much because we know someone is always there. My gran has settled in so much and the carers are amazing, not just with my gran but everyone else too. We couldn't ask for more.

With support, Mum had been able to stay in her own home until in her middle 90's when we realised we needed to find a residential home that offered her a caring and calm atmosphere that would look after her and recognise her individuality. At Bickham House, we feel she immediately felt comfortable.
Now two years later, Mum is ageing, hindered with poor sight, hearing and mobility, but the staff are able to bring a smile to her face, to sit and chat. Importantly they have built up relationships with her and understand that some days are better for her than others. She still enjoys "pulling their legs" and showing her sense of humour.

Christmas is a very special time to the residents, with the house decorated, craft sessions, carols, entertainment and mince pies. As a family, different members popped in at random times. They were always offered refreshments, welcomed and invited to join in with the activity or entertainment that was going on at that moment.

We love Bickham House! The staff are amazing - they are kind, caring and compassionate, and are all brilliant at keeping a sense of humour whilst maintaining everyone's dignity. They really go the extra mile and try to accommodate everyone's special needs and requests. I love the way that staff have the time to sit and chat to residents - it makes all the difference between a functional care home and somewhere where you feel at home! Our friend came here two years ago (in her late nineties) after a fall and decided to stay - she feels safe, valued and loved. Thank you to all at Bickham.

My mother receives the best care possible. It was daunting looking for a residential home for the first time in November as we needed somewhere that we all felt was right as a family. The moment you walk into the home, you feel at ease. The staff are lovely and the management go above and beyond to ensure my mothers quality of life is the best it can be. I would 100% recommend Bickham House. It is a home from home and we couldn’t ask for more.

The staff are excellent at Bickham House: friendly, cheerful and always treating my mother with care and dignity. She always says how good the food is and her room is pleasant. The only problem I notice is that there are few activities actually taking place. They often seem to be planned and then cancelled. Overall though, the standard of care seems very good.

Bickham House is a home in the true sense of the word. “Home again” were the words of my father-in-law on returning from an appointment. A wonderful house, in a beautiful setting, run by a friendly, efficient and loyal team. Excellent food too. Every effort is made to treat the residents respectfully as the individuals they are. My father-in-law and consequently all the family are extremely happy with Bickham House.

My 85-year-old mother has recently spent 2 separate periods of respite at Bickham House. I just want to say how fantastic the staff, food and accommodation were during her stay. She is always very happy to go to Bickham House which speaks for itself. It is also reassuring for me to know that she is in safe hands.
I actually would not mind going into there myself as it is more like a hotel.
Thank you to all concerned as caring for the elderly is not an easy job and they all do a fabulous job there.

Well done.

Bickham House provides a very professional service in every respect - good though this is, the icing on the cake is the homely atmosphere which the staff creates. Their obvious loving care and affection is very comforting for resident and family alike.

Bickham is is kept fresh and clean. The food is excellent and attention is given to personal preferences. Entertainers regularly visit. Birthdays and special days are never ignored.

Above all, my cousin, a shy lady, has settled in very well indeed. I know that I speak for her friends and family when i say "well done Bickham".

My mother is happy and satisfied with the home and care provided for her. The staff are thoughtful, helpful and willing to assist with her needs. They are continually improving the facilities for the benefit of the residents. There is a varied and well-balanced menu every day. The entertainment programme is varied and gives much pleasure and enjoyment.

I found the management very friendly, polite and informative when first visiting. They helped us resolve financial concerns when dealing with themselves and social services as my mother was moving in. The home is well run, organsied and plenty of staff were always on duty. There is a mix of ages and men and women who all mix with all the residents and attend to their needs. I visit at all times of the day and am able to sit with my mum, if at lunchtime, the staff will serve lunch in the lounge for mum so that we can carry on talking.

There is a varied published entertainment programme, I arrived during the carol service and watched my mum smiling and singing, I'm 60 but I had a tear in my eye. Mum has never been happier and I wished that she has been at Bickham years ago. My Mum has never worn nail varnish - she's 94 she has started!!

My mother moved into Bickham House in January 2015. As a family, we are very happy with the care my mother receives. It is also pleasing to note that upgrading and modernisation to the building is going on.

I am regularly moved by the gentleness, especially the timeliness and the enormous patience that every one of the Bickham team show to those in their care. I have never seen anyone show the slightest hesitation, exhaustion, loss of patience or ignoring what might or might not be an urgent need inadequately explained by an ailing resident. I believe the personal ethos of Matron has to be the driving force behind such care.

Overall Experience

My mother was a resident here for over 6 years and in that time I and my dog were very frequent visitors and since her death I have kept up the association, visiting both with and without a dog, albeit less frequently. The staff changes infrequently, usually on retirement or due to pregnancy, which speaks wonders for the atmosphere of Bickham House and in particular the senior staff. This is of huge benefit to the residents and their friends and relations. Most new residents settle quickly and are dealt with as individuals, which is easier as this is not a large care home. If they want to stay in bed longer they can, if they want a little walk outside the grounds and are up to it they can. If they want to stay up late they can. If they don't feel like mixing they are allowed privacy. If they are unwell they are attended too. And all is done with good humour from the staff. Bickham House does not have posh decor. Bickham House is clean and tidy and above all homely.

Bickham House is wonderful ! The staff are excellent, always friendly and caring and available. The building and gardens maintain a family atmosphere and features like the stairway take my breath away but there is also a lift for residents to use.
My mother first started to use Bickham House for respite care and was always happy to go there; she referred to it as her holiday home. Recently she has moved there as a permanent resident after a period in hospital. The manager and her staff have been so helpful with ensuring that Mum's transfer from hospital went smoothly and helping her settle into her room. She has some of her own furniture in her room, with her photographs and ornaments around the room it is very comfortable.
The meals are prepared in the kitchens at Bickham House; genuine home cooking to an excellent standard. Breakfast is served when each resident wants it. There is always a choice of meals available for lunch and tea.
Most weeks an entertainer will provide live music for a sing-a-long. Sometimes animals are taken into the home for residents to hold - whether it is a dog, a pony or a python. In the lounge there are often film nights, games or impromptu singing.

The manager and her team have every reason to be proud of Bickham House; it is a wonderful home. The length of service of some of the staff is testament to this but better still is watching how confidently they lead the entertainment at the Christmas Eve mince pies and carols party.

Bickham House is a beautiful home sent in very attractive grounds and gardens. A key creature is the staff, led by the matron who are very gentle, caring and supportive towards the residents. Over the years, the staff have been a familiar and stable environment. All staff are trained employees, not agency, providing a very comfortable home for residents. Relatives are always welcomed. Food is excellent and entertainment extensive. The home fully deserves it excellent reputation.
