Bickham House is a not-for-profit respite and residential care home with a clear focus on the physical, intellectual, emotional and social well-being of its residents.

Situated in Bowdon, Altrincham, Bickham House is within easy reach of all local motorways. The historic home enjoys beautiful views over extensive gardens with a vegetable garden, summer house and outdoor seating.

There is a strong emphasis on staff training across all mandatory courses with additional highlighted training in areas specific to residents' needs. Their care, independence and dignity are a top priority.

A choice of nutritious home-cooked food is prepared daily and all dietary requirements are catered for.

Bickham is a not-for-profit charity with a ‘behind the scenes’ voluntary committee. The funds raised provide a wide variety of activities for residents and their families to enjoy.

The staff are excellent at Bickham House: friendly, cheerful and always treating my mother with care and dignity. She always says how good the food is and her room is pleasant. The only problem I notice is that there are few activities actually taking place. They often seem to be planned and then cancelled.
Overall though, the standard of care seems very good.

Bickham House is a home in the true sense of the word. “Home again” were the words of my father-in-law on returning from an appointment. A wonderful house, in a beautiful setting, run by a friendly, efficient and loyal team. Excellent food too. Every effort is made to treat the residents respectfully
as the individuals they are. My father-in-law and consequently all the family are extremely happy with Bickham House.

My 85-year-old mother has recently spent 2 separate periods of respite at Bickham House. I just want to say how fantastic the staff, food and accommodation were during her stay. She is always very happy to go to Bickham House which speaks for itself. It is also reassuring for me to know that she is
in safe hands.
I actually would not mind going into there myself as it is more like a hotel.
Thank you to all concerned as caring for the elderly is not an easy job and they all do a fabulous job there.

Bickham House provides a very professional service in every respect - good though this is, the icing on the cake is the homely atmosphere which the staff creates. Their obvious loving care and affection is very comforting for resident and family alike.


Bickham is is kept fresh and clean. The food

is excellent and attention is given to personal preferences. Entertainers regularly visit. Birthdays and special days are never ignored.


Above all, my cousin, a shy lady, has settled in very well indeed. I know that I speak for her friends and family when i say "well done Bickham".

Bickham House is excellent in every aspect of care for the elderly.


For the last 3 years, my father has been cared for through many ups and downs in health with the utmost respect and dignity.


The staff are well trained, they are highly caring and supportive.
It is a warm and bright, homely atmosphere.

My mother is happy and satisfied with the home and care provided for her. The staff are thoughtful, helpful and willing to assist with her needs. I found the management very friendly, polite and informative when first visiting. They helped us resolve financial concerns when dealing with themselves and social services as my mother was moving in. The home is well run, organsied and plenty of staff were always on duty. There is a mix of ages and
men and women who all mix with all the residents and attend to their needs. I visit at all times of the day and am able to sit with my mum, if at lunchtime, the staff will serve lunch in the lounge for mum so that we can carry on talking.
There is a varied published entertainment programme, I arrived during the carol service and watched my mum smiling and singing, I'm 60 but I had a tear in my eye. Mum has never been happier and I wished that she has been at Bickham years ago. My Mum has never worn nail varnish - she's 94 she has started!!

My mother moved into Bickham House in January 2015. As a family, we are very happy with the care my mother receives. It is also pleasing to note that upgrading and modernisation to the building is going on.

I am regularly moved by the gentleness, especially the timeliness and the enormous patience that every one of the Bickham team show to those in their care. I have never seen anyone show the slightest hesitation, exhaustion, loss of patience or ignoring what might or might not be an urgent need inadequately
explained by an ailing resident. I believe the personal ethos of Matron has to be the driving force behind such care.

My mother was a resident here for over 6 years and in that time I and my dog were very frequent visitors and since her death I have kept up the association, visiting both with and without a dog, albeit less frequently. The staff changes infrequently, usually on retirement or due to pregnancy, which
speaks wonders for the atmosphere of Bickham House and in particular the senior staff. This is of huge benefit to the residents and their friends and relations. Most new residents settle quickly and are dealt with as individuals, which is easier as this is not a large care home. If they want to stay in bed longer they can, if they want a little walk outside the grounds and are up to it they can. If they want to stay up late they can. If they don't feel like mixing they are allowed privacy. If they are unwell they are attended too. And all is done with good humour from the staff. Bickham House does not have posh decor. Bickham House is clean and tidy and above all homely.

Bickham House is wonderful ! The staff are excellent, always friendly and caring and available. The building and gardens maintain a family atmosphere and features like the stairway take my breath away but there is also a lift for residents to use.
My mother first started to use Bickham House for respite
care and was always happy to go there; she referred to it as her holiday home. Recently she has moved there as a permanent resident after a period in hospital. The manager and her staff have been so helpful with ensuring that Mum's transfer from hospital went smoothly and helping her settle into her room. She has some of her own furniture in her room, with her photographs and ornaments around the room it is very comfortable.
The meals are prepared in the kitchens at Bickham House; genuine home cooking to an excellent standard. Breakfast is served when each resident wants it. There is always a choice of meals available for lunch and tea.
Most weeks an entertainer will provide live music for a sing-a-long. Sometimes animals are taken into the home for residents to hold - whether it is a dog, a pony or a python. In the lounge there are often film nights, games or impromptu singing.
The manager and her team have every reason to be proud of Bickham House; it is a wonderful home. The length of service of some of the staff is testament to this but better still is watching how confidently they lead the entertainment at the Christmas Eve mince pies and carols party.

Bickham House is an excellent care home. It looked after mum for over 2 years with care and kindness. All this staff are very good and are well led by the matron and deputy manager. As a regular visitor I was always kept updated with mums progress and was treated with kindness, patience, consideration
and a welcome cup of tea.

Bickham House is a beautiful home sent in very attractive grounds and gardens. A key creature is the staff, led by the matron who are very gentle, caring and supportive towards the residents. Over the years, the staff have been a familiar and stable environment. All staff are trained employees, not
agency, providing a very comfortable home for residents. Relatives are always welcomed. Food is excellent and entertainment extensive. The home fully deserves it excellent reputation.
