At the time of doing this review we are on lockdown, the staff at Afton Lodge are amazing with the care that the residents are getting. All guidelines are followed at all times so at the moment I can't see my dad but call him and video call all the time. His papers are delivered daily by the friendly
handyman, his hair is cut by staff members with his shaver so he looks clean and tidy at all times. The staff never stop, the place is so clean and they are on top of the care and give respect to residents while always looking for any kind of symptoms that might get shown by either staff or resident. I can't thank them enough, right down to the cooks who prepare all meals fresh from a full English breakfast right down to either a roast or fish n chips (that my dad loves). My dad is so lucky to have the staff taking care of him, thank you Afton Lodge.

Afton Lodge, thank you. It's a time in our lives when we want to be with our loved ones, the staff here are angels. My mum can sleep at night knowing my grandad is happy and safe, she speaks to grandad on the phone as we are all in lockdown but it makes both of them feel better hearing a voice. Nothing
is a problem here, from when you arrive it's a friendly hello while the staff are either cleaning or doing puzzles and cheering residents up. A cup of tea or coffee is made, so I just sit with grandad and chat away, now we can't see him, but the staff do, as they still carry out the fantastic work under these stressful times. These carers don't get enough recognition for the work they do, don't forget we are isolated the staff are not, if it wasn't for them where would my grandad be and other vulnerable older people. So thank you to all staff at Afton Lodge, wonderful, caring, and very professional staff indeed. Hope to see you all soon after lockdown.

The home is exactly what it says it is, my dad moved in in April this year and needs constant mobility support. The staff are amazing, you feel how happy it is when you come through the door, dads room is set out as he wants it, brought his own personal things but everything else he needs was there.
I was really apprehensive about him going anywhere and I felt as soon as we got here that it was the right place for him. Every room has an emergency button and staff are there in seconds, my dad falls a lot so this was majorly important to us. He is safe and happy here, he loves the banter with the staff and his other fellow home users.
The home have literally taken all my worries and cares and made mine and dads life so much more enjoyable, I'm not his carer anymore I'm his daughter and can sit for as long as I want without having to worry about his meds, appointments, meals, showers, washing etc. I love visiting dad and sitting talking.
Well done Afton Lodge.

I can't fault this place ... the staff are fantastic with my nan. No problems, she absolutely loves it. Chef caters for her by preparing exactly what she likes. The nursing staff have great care and patience with her. I have no concerns about her care and happiness there. She is very comfortable and
cared for.

My Mum comes to Afton Lodge twice a week as part of their Day Care Centre. She has also stayed for a couple of nights as part of their respite. We find the management and staff here at Afton Lodge excellent and very helpful and caring, as my Mum can be a handful at times.

I think this home is extremely brilliant as whenever any member of the family comes in, we are greeted with a smile, asked who wants a cup of tea. It is very very friendly indeed. My Father in Law has been very well looked after here. I think he will be very sad to leave as he has worked up a very good
relationship with all the staff. I wish he could stay here.

All staff are very friendly, professional and always willing to help. I love being a resident here. I feel safe and secure. The food is beautiful and plenty of it, there is a different activity every day if you wish to join in. This is the best move I ever made since leaving sheltered accommodation.

Whenever I visit the staff are so friendly and my mother couldn't be happier (it's like one big family). Royalty couldn't be treated better than she is.

My Mum has been a resident at this home for three years now. Mum has a lot of care and support of the staff and management. She is extremely happy and well looked after.
But, not only Mum gets support of the staff and management, so do my family and me.
This is the best residential care home for my
Mum. It feels like our home too.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.529)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.529) out of 10 for Afton Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 12 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.729 for Afton Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (110 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 144 Ratings = 4.729
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Afton Lodge is based on 12 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.8
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 12 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
