My Husband settled into Avalon very quickly. He receives excellent day to day care from the Manager and all the Staff.

There is a very homely atmosphere, everyone is treated individually with gentleness and respect.

My sister died in February 2016.

She had lived in Avalon for two and a half years. I was also nursing my husband, at home for three years. My sister could not have had better care and I cannot praise the staff high enough for their loving care which was also shown to me. When my sister died she did not have any bedsores which is proof of excellent caring.

Overall Experience

I am a regular, if infrequent, visitor to 'Avalon EMI/DE Care Home'. My cousin is 90 years old and both of his legs have been amputated. He is also dyslexic and cannot read and write. I see him approximately every three weeks and I am the only family member who does. I find that he is cared for with love and affection by all of the staff. He is cared for mentally, physically and spiritually and his care could not be bettered.

Review from Philip C (Husband of Resident) published on 19 July 2016 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My wife who had Alzheimer's disease was resident in Avalon from February to May 2016 at which time she died of her illness. I visited every day during that period and therefore can testify with considerable knowledge of the establishment. Without exception the staff were extremely helpful, but more importantly loving and caring. My wife received the sort of care that was all that one would wish for. The supervisory team were highly knowledgeable and available at all times of day or night to assist relatives of the residents - an important part of their philosophy. The home was very capably managed by the Manager who gave the same unstinting help to all and was an inspiring leader of staff.

Of course nothing is absolutely perfect and if I were asked to recommend any improvement it would be that there was a requirement for at least one member of staff to be present in the lounges at all (daytime) times.

The staff are always welcoming. They care for the residents very well. Nice that they don't wear uniforms as the residents feel more comfortable. Very homely, can visit anytime day or night, always very accommodating and nothing is too much trouble.

My mum is well cared for by professional staff. The home is clean, fresh and well maintained. My mum enjoys the food and activities provided by the home. Residents have regular visits from hairdressers and chiropodists as well as access to doctors when needed. Staff act on any concerns in a quick and efficient manner. I would recommend this home without hesitation.

My mother's transition from her own home to Avalon care home was something we as a family were quite worried about. Thanks to the manager and her care support, practical assistance and kindness my mother settled extremely quickly at Avalon and her care has been outstanding since she moved in in February 2016. Before she moved to Avalon my mother now 97 had lost a lot of weight as she was disinterested in food and would only drink small amounts . The dedicated team have given my mother such wonderful care that she has gained a stone in 4 months and now loves her meals again. She is much happier and regularly tells us I like it here.

Overall Experience

Since my mother has been a resident at the Avalon she has been treated with the highest respect and dignity. She enjoys the activities and especially the day trips that have been provided. Mum relishes the interaction that the staff provide who will always make time for her. The meal times are her highlight of her the day and she has never yet been disappointed. She has her own room with en suite which is fitted with movement activated sensors so monitoring is always there. I have no worries that Mum will wander and become disoriented thus causing her stress. Throughout the day there are various activities that all resident are encouraged to participate in therefore giving her the stimulation she needs.

I visit a resident who is an old friend of many years, every two weeks with two other friends from Formby. I find all the staff friendly and caring both to the residents and ourselves. Mostly sat out in the lovely front garden on comfortable chairs cheerfully chatting and enjoying the sunshine. I have also been in the nice resident's room with en-suite toilet/bathroom. The home is secure with stairs and lift in addition to a large and small lounge for all. I couldn't wish for a friendlier atmosphere and staff.

This review was made on a dry day, with a medium number of people out in the well maintained garden. The atmosphere very good and sunny. Members of the home were very relaxed and smiling. The lawn outside the building was in good condition with tables and seats available.
