My mum moved to The Knights Retirement Home in July 2022, this being one of the hardest decision we have had to make as a family. The manager and staff were brilliant and made my mum's transition smooth, taking care of her but also supporting me and my children. Since then, what a difference! My mum
is happy, she is smiling again and never stops singing and dancing. The staff are brilliant and never a truer word has been spoken than the motto for the home which is "our residents do not live in our workplace, we work in their home". The daily posts and videos on social media are brilliant, they are always up to something fun! The home has regular parties for us to attend and even have an alpaca visit! I cannot thank The Knights enough for making my mum dance again, this home is a real gem!

My mum lives at the Knights. She is so happy there. Staff are warm and friendly, they can't do enough for the residents and their visitors. I have sat in on some of the activity groups, they are amazing. Thank you for making my mum happy.

My mum (96) has been a resident at The Knights Care Home since August 2020. The management and staff are all very helpful and caring. The activities coordinator does an amazing job, always finding different things to keep the residents entertained. There are Facebook updates on a daily basis, so that
you can see what has been happening each day. The food looks lovely and they often do afternoon teas and present them so beautifully on china plates and cups. I take my mum out most days now that restrictions have been lifted and the Carers are always happy to get her ready in her wheelchair and she loves going to Ashton Gardens, which is conveniently placed almost next to The Knights. The staff are all doing an amazing job, in very difficult times just now and I am happy that they are looking after my mum very well.

My Mother in law was a resident at The Knights Retirement Home for the last few months of her life. She was reluctant to leave her home but was unable to care for herself any more. It was a huge decision for the family and finding the right place was a massive responsibility for my brothers-in-law.
We were all greatly relieved when she moved in as she was now safe. The care and attention she got from all the staff was marvellous. They were always polite and helpful. The atmosphere here is so positive and the residents appear happy and stimulated. Recently she sadly passed away, my family are so grateful to The Knights for making her comfortable and safe her final months. Thank you.

My mother could not be cared for better, the staff go above and beyond to help her. The activities are varied and everyone is made to feel at home and comfortable. I would recommend The Knights to anyone looking for a care home for a friend or relative.

My mum was originally the first of my parents to go into this fantastic home after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's. With my dad already in care, it was a big step and with the help of the management, I was able to get my father at the same home. The whole team are fantastic within all aspects of the
home and I feel totally comfortable with both mum and dad getting the care they need.

My mother-in-law has been a resident in The Knights for six yrs now. The care has always been adequate, but the recent change of management has seriously improved the involvement and quality of day to day activity. She has been very happy there, and currently, at age 97 and in failing health, we are
comforted that the standard of care she is receiving is of the highest standard.

My mum received wonderful care here. She had advanced vascular dementia and the staff were always patient and kind and gave her the best possible quality of life that she could have possibly had. I know that she was very content and happy here as she smiled so often and was always having a joke with
the staff. The whole team are upbeat and enthusiastic and arrange all sorts of entertainment and activities for those residents who wish to participate. They treat each resident as an individual and do their best to make them happy. They are a thoroughly professional and caring team in every department. I would absolutely recommend the Knights without hesitation.

My dad is a resident at The Knights and he is treated with courtesy and consideration by all the members of staff. I visit him most days so get to see his interaction with everyone there regularly. I'm particularly pleased with the entertainment and activities that they have to offer, it's wonderful
to see all the residents cuddling an alpaca or a Shetland pony and the activities coordinator is an absolute joy. She makes the day to day lives of all the residents so much more interesting.
The manager is very warm, friendly and approachable and is always happy to chat and discuss anything with me. I'm more than happy with the level of care my dad receives at The Knights and I feel very comfortable with him being there.

Having had no experience of a relative going into a home, we did not know what to expect. The manager could not have been more helpful and explained everything in detail. She ensures that the residents are treated with kindness and respect, as it is their home. My father-in-law gets daily help with
showering and personal hygiene. He is taken out for trips in his wheelchair, which he greatly enjoys. The food is varied and excellent quality. It is a great comfort to know that he is so well looked after.

Staff are friendly and helpful. My dad is always treated with care, respect and understanding. His room is kept clean and tidy, and he receives as much assistance as he needs with toileting. There is entertainment for people of all needs and abilities, whether it be having a book read to those with
sight problems, or going to a concert in the park. The manager runs the home to a high standard and lets me know immediately if Dad has any problems. Dad could not be better looked after, and this gives me peace of mind.

My mother in law moved to The Knights at the end of October 2018 after hospitalisation. Immediately she was treated with love, dignity and understanding of her challenging behaviour due to advanced dementia. The manager and her staff have made it their business to make sure my mother in law has appropriate
care offered to her at all times. The late Victorian home is warm and cosy and retains some original features that help to make it feel like home.
Tender loving care is given by all the staff there. They have all encouraged my mother in law to be the person she is while acknowledging her limitations and behavioural issues. They always treat her with kindness and love.
The manager has been instrumental in creating a good relationship with social services and also with the local GP. Communications are excellent. My mother in law is nearing the end of her life and her last months are full of joy and love. We could not ask for more.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.498)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.498) out of 10 for The Knights Retirement Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.930 for The Knights Retirement Home is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.93
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.568 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Knights Retirement Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.2 = 0.968
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
