My brother became a resident of Westwood as he was incapable of continuing to live at home. Right from the start, he was treated with care and consideration and the staff were always on hand to help him in whatever way was necessary. Although an old building, the home offered comfort and cleanliness.
The food was varied and of good quality. As he became less able, the staff went out of their way to help and assist him. He came to think of Westwood as home and we as a family will be forever grateful to the staff for the sensitive and caring way he was treated in his final days.

We had 3 1/2 years experience of this care home and only had a couple of complaints which were immediately dealt with to our satisfaction. Our Dad was taken care of with dignity and staff were genuine, caring individuals. The activities co-ordinator does an excellent job with activities and events,
always ensuring the residents have something to occupy their minds. Food excellent. Would highly recommend this care home.

Westwood is a lovely, homely place with excellent carers. Mum is treated very well in the home, is taken out on day trips where possible, and is kept stimulated by activity days and visits.
We as her family, are made welcome at any time and we are very happy in the knowledge that she is safe in a
clean, friendly atmosphere.

I cannot praise Westwood highly enough. Their care of our Dad was of the highest standard. The staff care for the residents in a compassionate and dignified way and nothing is ever too much trouble for them. The family atmosphere is wonderful and they make sure that residents and their families are
well cared for and well informed. The food is excellent and is home cooked on site. The residents are always offered a choice. Dad’s dietary needs were catered for with so much extra effort I cannot thank staff enough. I would say Westwood is truly a home from home. The activities are well planned and keep residents stimulated and the trips out are always special days which can be relived through the many photos taken by staff and volunteers. Westwood gave us an extra three and a half years with Dad for which we will be eternally grateful. The ability to care for someone in life takes a very special person, to care for someone in death takes an angel. Thanks to all the Westwood Angels.

Mum lived at Westwood Residential Care Home for nearly 3 years and having worked there herself over 20 years ago we found 5 carers there that were still on staff while she was a resident - a great testimony to their practices and work environment.
Mum broke her hip and if the staff hadn't 'rescued'
her from the hospital she wouldn't have survived more than a few weeks but due to the care, she received she recovered marvellously.
At the end, the love, affection and attention given to Mum and her family were outstanding and way above anyone could expect and I could not recommend Westwood highly enough. I hope I am that lucky if needed.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.396)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.396) out of 10 for Westwood Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.496 for Westwood Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (95 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.496

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westwood Residential Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
