Concerns raised to management regarding communication of incidents involving my relative and also the cleanliness of my relative's room. Concerns were immediately addressed by management and issues discussed with myself and family. All issues of concern were rectified and improved communication channels have been put in place.

Our relative is very settled, content and well cared for. Activities have increased with plans for further development.

It is always very worrying when someone you love has to go into a care home but our fear left us very quickly when we saw the love and care shown to our mum by the wonderful staff at Victoria House Care Home. Mum was cared for in a warm, comfortable and pleasant environment. Although Mum didn't have a big appetite, she always said the food was very good indeed. We visited Mum on a daily basis and were always greeted by staff who were always pleasant, friendly and well-mannered and when you passed anyone in a corridor they always acknowledged you and seemed genuinely pleased to see you. We would not hesitate in recommending Victoria House to friends and family.

Thank you, Michael and family, to give us the opportunity to look after your mum. Your mum was a wonderful lady and it was a pleasure to look after her. It was such a privilege to meet the family, who put their mum first and visited her every day from the day she was admitted to Victoria House....

My mother was a resident at Victoria House since March 2022 and after a spell in hospital, they were kind enough to let her return to the home, for her end of life, so that she could be around friendly and familiar faces. The facilities are fine, but what impresses me most about Victoria House, is its staff. They are fun, professional, and so, so kind. Nothing is too much for them. The care that they took of my mother was at every stage, so personal, respectful and compassionate. I can't thank them enough.

Overall Experience

My mum was admitted to Victoria House towards the end of 2021. As mum had lived with us our whole lives, we were initially very worried about placing mum in the care of others. However, we realised that we had nothing to worry about. The staff at Victoria House looked after my mum like she was their own family and tailored mum’s care to her needs. During Covid times, things were very difficult as we weren’t able to see mum as often, however, the staff were always so accommodating and provided updates about mum if needed. Sadly Mum passed away on 12th February 2022. She was in the care of those at Victoria House who made what was such a painful and difficult time for both Mum and for us as a family, as comfortable as it could be. Honestly, from our perspective, all the staff at Victoria House are like angels and we couldn’t be more grateful for everything they did for for us, but most importantly for filling mum’s last few months with so much love, happiness, and care.

Overall Experience

My main concern in all areas is not enough staff, weekdays generally satisfactory, but weekends are definitely not enough, at night 2 staff on 2 floors and no senior carer. The food is good, but smaller quantities so as not to overfill. Activities good when provided, but 4 days a week nothing. Need more stimulation. More choice in TV channels if all residents to be in one room. More choice needed for menu. Management, difficult to say as several changes recently. Staff excellent and kind and caring, treating residents as individuals, with respect and dignity. Working hard at all times fundraising for activities and outings.

The home is clean. The staff are friendly, approachable and attentive. The food is freshly cooked. More staff are definitely required. The funding is very low for activities, outings, ice creams etc. There needs to be more social events and more use of the garden. I often see residents just sat in the middle lounge watching TV. Some have said it's boring. I think the owners ought to be more compassionate and to see the home as more than just a business.

Review from N E (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 12 September 2019 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

The review is from myself and my grandma, as I feel she should have more of a say as she has experienced first hand the standard of care that she received during the five months she has spent in Victoria House. From what I have seen and experienced whilst visiting my grandma in the home, the staff are very friendly and always have a smile on their faces when they come to see my grandma. They include her in the activities that they have on, by making little arts and crafts items, even though she is unable to attend due to immobility and a severe breathing condition. The rooms are slightly outdated, however, I feel that the standard of care takes precedence over the decor in the rooms. Overall, I don’t think we can find fault with the staff that work so hard to make sure that my grandma and other residents experience is a positive one.

I visited my relative at the home who has been there some years, the staff are very caring the home is very tired but the care is excellent. The food is lovely and we are always offered a drink and home made cakes. We visit once a month and there are lots of changes going on which is exciting for the residents.
