I'm happy to be able to leave my parent in such caring, happy, clean and well-managed home. I've now got peace of mind knowing he's well looked after.

My mother has been in Birchfield for nearly twelve months now. Since the day she arrived, she has received excellent care and support from their dedicated staff. Everyone goes above and beyond to make her life a pleasant one. All the staff are friendly and very approachable. On November 10th it was my mum's 100th birthday and everyone made it a special day for her to remember. They welcomed her family to celebrate with her and made her a lovely buffet. It was a lovely day for us all to remember thanks to their friendliness and help. I feel my mum is safe and well looked after. Thank you to everyone. Keep up the excellent work.

They are very friendly staff, make time to speak to you and tell you what is what with the person you are visiting and what they are up to e.g. If they are not feeling well and if they have had a good day.

My mum has been in the home for two and a half years. She is very happy and likes the staff who work very hard. She enjoys the food which is varied. Knowing my mum is happy makes me feel better. The home has a "HOMELY FEEL", you could not ask for anything else.

My father is 99 years old and this is his first experience of a care home. The care home has been very caring and staff could not have done more to make the transition from home to care home any easier for us. My father is very happy with every aspect of the home and I could not thank them enough for their help and kindness.

My relative spent approx. 3 years in and out of this care home before he died in November 2016. At all times he was treated with respect and dignity and although he could be very difficult at times, he always praised the staff and the care which he received.

Our mum chose to move into Birchfield after a long weekend of visiting various homes. This was the first time a door had opened and the person standing there had spoken to mum directly. It was this person centred approach that convinced us that this was the place that would be able to care for her in the way that we all wanted. Families are encouraged to visit and take part in their activities and events, making it very inclusive.

In the following three years as mum deteriorated, the staff never lost sight of the fact that she was a person, her dignity was always preserved and the care she received was fantastic. In mums final 10 months she was confined to bed and despite not being a nursing home, the staff diligently turned her every 2 hours. Her bedding was always clean and fresh and as a result of this, she didn’t have a single bedsore which was truly remarkable. Thank you to all the staff at Birchfield for looking after our mum so well and supporting us all in those final weeks.

Overall we are extremely satisfied with the care mum is receiving, although at times we have noticed a lack of staffing. Thus the activities which have been organised actually do not take place.
Residents sit in front of the TV for far too long!

But what else can be expected - my mum is having difficulties in walking so needs staff to meet her ever personal needs, 24/7.

I visit my friend and neighbour every week for a few hours and overall I have found the care home to be a good one. One minor issue is her wearing the wrong clothes if I don't label her clothes for her correctly, as she has no immediate family and can't talk for herself following a minor stroke as her speech is affected. The home is clean and tidy and the staff are good and approachable. Overall a good care home.

Overall Experience

Mother, in her 90s, spent 2 weeks here recovering after a stint in hospital. All staff were kind, caring and extremely helpful encouraging mother both to eat and walk. Her room was clean, tidy and well furnished, the communal rooms were also well presented and exceptionally clean and comfortably set out, including quiet areas for visitors and clients alike. Mother was very happy during her stay and would be happy to return. Compassionate and caring staff. Excellent home cooked food provided by a sympathetic chef who talks daily to residents and tries to cater for all individual needs and requests. Overall excellent, a cut above other care homes where mother has previously spent time in respite care, Birchfield is exceptionally good value. Thank you to all staff, your attentive care has been much appreciated.

I have witnessed excellent loving care of my dear 100 year old friend. She is happy and contented with you. The house - unlike many others - does not smell of wee and boiled cabbage. Events and visits are arranged frequently. I cannot say I wouldn't mind ending my days with you! But not just yet!!

My 90 year Nan, stayed at Birchfield as a Temporary Resident for roughly 8 weeks.
In this time the staff cared for Nan, with compassion and care.
Taking time with her to help her walk albeit slowly but on arrival her walking was non existent. This was wonderful to see again.
As a visitor, there was an open door policy and I was always made to feel welcome.
Real thought goes into the running of Birchfield, the reception area was often decorated with a theme (Easter, Valentines, Mothering Sunday ).

Little touches make all the difference.

Well Done and thank you for Caring.
