The care that was given to my sister was extraordinary. She is a young adult with a learning disability who was discharged from the hospital to their following a lengthy hospital stay where she was very unwell. The staff could not have done enough for her the amount she progressed was phenomenal. This
was supposed to be a temporary placement for her but due to the pandemic, it got delayed however the staff went above and beyond to chase up her hospital appointments and pushed for her surgery that she needed. I was happy that the staff managed to adapt to fully support my sister’s complex needs. The level of communication was superb from all the staff to me and all the other health professionals involved in my sister’s health recovery. They always got her involved in activities in the home such as baking, arts and crafts and her chore was to make sure the 2 dogs, that lived at the home, were fed and had water. The dogs really comforted her and brought her out of her shell.

My uncle has been a resident for several years but in the last 10months his dementia has deteriorated, but the care he has been given has surpassed expectations. The staff are compassionate, caring and understanding of his needs. Until the first lockdown, my mother and myself were always made welcome.
Nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately, my uncle passed away recently. The staff made his last few days as comfortable as possible. The love and care given will never be forgotten.

The care devoted to my sister by the staff is superb, she could not be in better or safer hands. She has been suffering from Alzheimer’s for many years and has been bedridden for over two years in Glenthorne rest home and we have never had any concerns about her wellbeing

My parents were both placed at Glenthorne, my father has now passed but my mum remains as a resident. During the Covid lockdown, the staff and management have shown exemplary care and attention to detail. Although bedridden, Mum has been well cared for and remains Covid free.
Throughout this time,
we have been kept fully updated as to Mum’s health and well-being.
These are challenging times and we are most grateful to the management and staff at Glenthorne.

Inspection ratings
We rate most services according to how safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led they are, using four levels:
Outstanding - the service is performing exceptionally well.
Good - the service is performing well and meeting our expectations.
Requires improvement - the service isn't performing as well as it should and we have told the service how it must improve.
Inadequate - the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service.
No rating/under appeal/rating suspended - there are some services which we can't rate, while some might be under appeal from the provider. Suspended ratings are being reviewed by us and will be published soon.
Ticks and crosses
We don't rate every type of service. For services we haven't rated we use ticks and crosses to show whether we've asked them to take further action or taken enforcement action against them.
There's no need for the service to take further action. If this service has not had a CQC inspection since it registered with us, our judgement may be based on our assessment of declarations and evidence supplied by the service.
The service must make improvements.
At least one standard in this area was not being met when we inspected the service and we have taken enforcement action.
