The Hollies is a homely residential care home set in a quiet suburb of Leeds.

They look after only 28 residents and provide them with the highest standard of care. The building is a Victorian property extended to create multiple large communal spaces on the ground floor and bedrooms over three floors. The Hollies has been in operation as a care home since the 1990s and is situated close to the local shops, churches and transport links.

Staff are recruited based on their values, are well trained and continually monitored by the home's management team. Being a smaller care home enables The Hollies to provide care that fits the needs of each individual resident, and understand their changing care needs on a day-to-day basis. The residents also get to know each staff member well, which builds familiarity and trust. Many staff have been with The Hollies for many years, which helps residents feel secure.

Great emphasis is placed on creating a pleasant, homely atmosphere for residents. Special attention is given to the happiness and individual requirements of all residents.

The Hollies has a visiting hairdresser, optician, dentist, chiropodist, district nurses and other health professionals. There is also a weekly 'ward round' with the GP.

The Hollies is highly regarded by both the local community and the medical profession.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Experience superb! Nothing is too much trouble for The Hollies staff, who are at all times attentive and caring. This applies to both the physical care and the emotional needs of the residents who are treated like and looked upon as family. For the 17+ months she was there, I always knew that she was
being looked after and her self-contentment was obvious when visiting, which I did 4 times a week. I even felt able to go on holiday with a clear conscience! I cannot recommend it too highly!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.765) out of 10 for The Hollies is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.915 for The Hollies is calculated as follows: ( (151 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 165 Ratings = 4.915
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hollies is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Manager Joined: 2022

I have worked within the care industry for 29 years and am currently undertaking a Level 5 qualification in Health and Social Care Leadership and Management.

I have a passion for ensuring that person centred care is delivered to all that are living within the service I am employed in, as it is their home that we are working in. I promote residents’ independence as much as possible because “if you don’t use it you lose it”., and encourage the staff to work in the same way.

I train staff in dementia care techniques, such as if a resident becomes agitated or upset at times, this is probably a distress reaction and there is normally a reason as to why that person has become distressed. We then work out, as a team, why they are distressed and what their possible triggers are. We share what works and what hasn't, to better care for our residents.

The Hollie’s is such a homely home, and I look forward to coming to work every day as each day is never the same.
