Review from Elaine S (Wife of Resident) published on 6 September 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My husband was referred to Springfield Care home on December 20th 2020. He was discharged from the hospital, having had heart failure, Covid, 2 wedge compression fractures in his lower back, and a bleed on the brain. He weighed 7 stone 4lbs on admittance there, having lost over 2 stone whilst being hospitalised. He looked dreadful and was not expected to see Christmas 2020.

Springfield Care Home, with a nutritious diet, expert care and attention, and exercise got his weight up to over 9 stone, and also improved his mobility in the 3-months he was there, he returned home on 29th March 2021. Springfield cared for us, his family, at home with consideration, and information as to his progress, and as a family, we cannot thank them enough. Should the need arise for respite care for my husband, we shall not hesitate to contact them.

My partner has been treated with care and kindness at all times, but especially during the Covid pandemic. Help is given with personal cleanliness and dressing if required. Meals are varied and are served well. Plenty of drinks and snacks available on request. I have been informed by staff on falls or illness is affecting my partner, and advised of treatment given and kept informed on his recovery.

My mum has always been looked after with kindness, care and maintained her dignity at Springfield. It is the hardest thing when someone you love needs to go to a care home, but the staff have become like an extended family to me. Over the pandemic, the well-being team have worked so hard enabling contact between us and keeping Mum active and entertained.

The management team are approachable and supportive, as are all the members of the caring staff.

Springfield has shown such dedication to the residents and family during this difficult time. I would definitely recommend Springfield to anyone looking for residential care. My aunt has been there since August 2019 and settled in well. Thanks to the whole team.

Mum was accepted into the home 3 months ago following discharge from hospital due to a fall and with delirium. The home immediately sought to deal with Mum (95, dementia sufferer) and general condition has improved immensely. All staff are great, attentive and down to earth.

Mum has been in the care home for a long time and the care she receives is excellent, she herself says how nice the carers are something I wholeheartedly agree with.

They are all always friendly, attentive, professional, helpful and respectful. The only fly in the ointment is communication. I'm not always told when the GP has attended and when I enquire about assessments being carried out no one seems to respond, it's written in the book to be dealt with but I don't receive a response.

Both parents in the home until my mother died at Xmas. We have been very impressed with the overall care, food, staff, cleanliness and help with the residents.

The only problem has been clothing going astray despite labels, this aspect needs organising better.

Overall Experience

Overall I am satisfied with this care home, however in my opinion residents could do with some form of stimulation, say by encouraging physical (gentle) activities such as passing of soft balls or sitting down exercises as they seem to be sitting about a lot, or, visited by any company that brings in small animals or well behaved dogs to be petted by residents.

Reply from Sally Rasmussen, Marketing at Springfield Care Home
Thank you for your review, we greatly appreciate your feedback. There are two well-being coordinators on hand to help our residents with a wide range of activities including gentle exercise, however, I will be sure to pass your comments to the team so that they can address this with you personally.

Kind regards

My aunt has been in Springfield almost 2 1/2 years. I live a long way away but every time I visit everything is excellent. I also have a regular visitor who visits almost every week and keeps me informed of the situation, who also agrees how nice it is for the residents and how considerate all the staff are. Thanks keep it up.

As a retired nurse and having seen poor examples of care to the elderly and vulnerable, I was very nervous about choosing a care home for my 99-year-old father. I was impressed from walking into Springfield - and being shown around by the manager. Liked - the welcome - the layout with many different sitting areas - some with music/tv - some without. Excellent!

Bedroom/ensuite clean, tidy and a good size. Lovely furniture. Safety features.

My husband entered Springfield Care in September 2016. Since then, he has received excellent 24-hour care. He has vascular and Alzheimer's dementia hence he has no memory, does not know his family, but the staff from cleaners to manageress treat him with love and dignity and although he does not know where he is, he always seems happy with all staff, is always clean and nicely presented and his meals are very good.

The quality of care is dependent upon many factors, but easily the most significant is the attitude of the staff. All the staff at the home are good, but some are excellent. They relate to residents as people/friends - not clients! It's fair to say that they care about their care!

My mother lived at Springfield Care home for 6 years, nearly 21 years ago. Since my mother passed away, I have continued to visit the care home and seen it change over the years. The home is homely, welcoming and has a family feel. The owner attended my mother's funeral and stated "Don't you ever forget Springfield's doors are always open to you".

This is still true to the very day.
