My Father went to Briar Dene for three weeks respite before he was offered a permanent place. We were happy he could be looked after.

Fast forward on a couple of months staff started saying they don't do dementia care??

What I don't understand is how my dad was assessed, accepted by management, settled and then deemed to need too much care. One carer told me they only have 3 staff on at night for 60 residents but that's not my dad's fault.

I wish they had just refused to take him in the first place. He deserved better than to be evicted (refused return after a fall) and spend three lonely weeks on a hospital ward before moving to the right home.

This purpose built family run business has been my Mum's home for the past 3 years. Everywhere is immaculately clean and all the staff are extremely friendly and very caring towards my Mum. Rooms are well designed and very light together with comfortable lounges and dining rooms. The regular hairdresser is also a bonus. I feel Mum is being very well looked after and is happy and settled. Meals are good and the laundry is carried out very professionally. Regular entertainment for the residents is also very welcome.

My Mum has been a resident of Briadene Care Home since June 2023, in that time I haven't had any issues with her care whatsoever, despite her deteriorating Vascular Dementia condition the staff and management have taken the utmost care of mum and kept me informed of every detail of any change in her condition and wellbeing.

Before we chose Briadene as a care home residence for my mum we viewed and inspected every care facility in the Scarborough Filey and Bridlington area and it immediately struck us that Briadene was an immaculately clean care home with kind, considerate and professional care staff while mum stayed as a respite residence as a trail for me to assess how she would be looked after and her own reaction to moving from her home into care, this was a positive period for mums welfare and I took the decision to place mum in Briadene's full time care.

After 2 years 5 months of residence I could not wish for a better care home for my mum.

The staff at Briar Dene were so friendly, caring, and attentive with my Grandma. She was always treated with kindness and respect, which meant a lot to us. The home itself was modern, spotless, and felt more like a luxury residence than a typical care home. We're incredibly grateful for the comfort and care she received and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for exceptional support for a loved one.

Overall Experience

I was forced to move my mother from her home in Stalybridge to Briar Dene just under four years ago, when she was no longer able to care for herself. She was anxious, almost frightened by the prospect, but any fears she had were soon seen to be unfounded. The care and attention she received from all the staff, throughout her near four year residency was outstanding. Carers became friends, and her quality of life was improved to a degree that I could never have foreseen. The purpose built facilities are of such a high standard that I often joked about booking a two week stay there myself. It is a five star organisation in every respect.

My mum, who has dementia, recently stayed at the Briar Dene for respite care. The staff were lovely and very caring. The whole place was spotlessly clean. I believe they have two activities a day, which mum enjoyed. Even the tea-lady gave her a big hug when we left! Many thanks to all the lovely staff!

Overall Experience
My step mum lived at Briar Dene for over 5 years, throughout this time, the family owners & staff have been exceptional looking after her, caring, empathetic, always approachable & available, working in the residents' best interests at all times.
It was always a welcoming happy environment, beautifully clean, really good meals. It is a bright & attractive property, purpose built, in fact home from home, if not better.
I really can't praise this business enough & I am incredibly thankful to them.
When my step mum was nearing her last days just before Christmas last year, due to old age, the carers overwhelmed me with their kindness & expertise in looking after her & keeping her comfortable, day staff & night staff, they were all absolutely marvellous.

I feel Briar Dene is a unique beautiful residential care home, this from what I have witnessed over many years & most importantly what my step mum felt too.

Overall Experience

My Mum has been a resident in Briar Dene Residential Care Home for the last fourteen months and I have been so happy with the care she has received. During that time the staff and management team have been absolutely amazing. No request has ever been met with a negative response but only with enthusiasm and a can-do attitude. Everyone is friendly and the environment is calm and welcoming on every occasion I have telephoned, contacted or visited. My mum has been treated always with respect and love and for this, I am so grateful. Keep up the good work. Just a further note, my mum thinks the meals are fabulous!

Overall Experience

The home is not adequate for people with dementia or poor mobility as residents are often left unattended in the lounge and dining room. Mum fell unwitnessed by any careworker whilst in the dining room and sustained life-changing injuries after only 10 days in their care. I arrived one day and the staff did not even know where Mum was! I found her in the toilet in the dark on her own. I had to clean her up and asked that the staff shower her that evening. It did not happen until the next day. Although the home is new and looks good the service it offers does not match up with hardly any activities for residents. Also, the only home I have come across (and having volunteered with an Alzheimer's charity for years I have seen many) that does not allow residents' or visitors' dogs into their private rooms.

We are sorry that your Mother had a fall, however, this was an unfortunate accident witnessed by a member of staff just metres away who was unable to prevent this happening. As you are aware from the falls that your Mother had whilst in your care, the risk of a fall can be minimised but sadly not...
