Riverside Court is a small, family-run home set on the banks of the river Ure in the heart of Boroughbridge.

It is rated as 'good' in all five areas by CQC (August 2023).

Staff take pride in providing a person-centred approach to meet all residents' needs, while the care plans reflect the individuality of each person.

All bedrooms are en-suite and residents are given the option to personalise their room to create a home-from-home environment.

Riverside Court offers nutritious home-cooked meals, using locally sourced ingredients. Menus can be individually tailored and specific dietary needs met.

The in house activities co-ordinator provides a wide range of activities to stimulate residents minds and bodies. Regular outings on either the mini-bus or boat encourage residents to awaken their senses whilst taking in the local scenery.

The care home has a great relationship with the local community including the local Church and primary schools, who both visit regularly.

My Mum has only been in Riverside Court since 28th of November 2025. She was originally going for 3 months respite care, but settled in so well, she is now a permanent resident! This is due to the care she is being given by the staff and also all the wonderful activities the residents are able to do
! The visit earlier this month by the owls was amazing! My Mum also seems to be putting weight back on after loosing lots in the few months before she arrived in the home, I am putting this down to good meals that she is enjoying.
I also really like the relatives gateway. It is good to get a feel for how your relative is getting on, on a day to day basis.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you so much for your review. Mum has settled in so well with us and has made the transition look very easy. It is lovely to hear you are happy with the progress she has made with us here too. Kind regards, Kate Gill

Once again I can only praise the staff at Riverside Court for their continuing care of my parent. Over the last few years I have got to know many of the staff who have been at Riverside Court since dad moved in. They have always been extremely kind and considerate towards dad as Alzheimer's has taken
its hold. I can only thank them for their amazing support.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you for your review and praise of our staff. It really is our privilege to care for dad, who continues to make us smile on a daily basis. Kind regards, Kate

Riverside Court is managed by a wonderful, hard working, efficient and caring manager. The lovely staff always make me so welcome when I visit and they look after my elderly mum so well. It is such a relief to know that she is in such safe hands and to know that she is receiving all her medication and
health care. It is very much a home from home and my mum is very happy there.
There are many activities and I was lucky enough to visit when there were several birds of prey being shown! I have also taken part in one of the regular residents and family meetings where ideas and feedback could be discussed.
The home continues with refurbishment making everything look really nice and it is always very clean.
I am so thankful that mum managed to get a place at Riverside. She loves the views and all the activity she can see outside.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you for such a wonderful review of us all here at Riverside Court. I was so happy to see you joining in with the birds of prey when they came, as it is lovely when families can be a part of their residents experience with us. Kind regards, Kate

Mum is looked after beautifully at Riverside. The activities give her stimulation that she was so lacking living at home. The diversity of these keep her mind active and engaged.
All of the staff are welcoming and cheery, never tiring of looking after the residents with love and care.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you for a wonderful review. We feel activities are a key part of a residents life at Riverside Court and strive to offer a personalised service, which I am happy to see mum is benefitting from. Kind regards, Kate

My dad is 99 and until recently had been fairly independent but his health and mobility are in steady decline. Despite this the staff at Riverside continue to ensure that dad is well cared for, well fed and included in any activities as best he can.
I cannot praise the staff highly enough for their
dedication to his care and wellbeing.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you for such a positive review. Dad is a much loved member of the home amongst both staff and residents and it is our pleasure to care for him. Kind regards, Kate

Whenever I telephone, the staff and manager are extremely helpful, they are able to take my parent out around the town in a wheel chair to local shops which is great, and are very patient. The home is always immaculate clean and tidy and many members of staff have worked there for between 10 and 20
years which proves it is a happy place to work. From what I am told the tea time menu is either soup and roll or a sandwich which does not seem very substantial .
Reply from Kate Gil, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you for your review and also for highlighting our staff service lengths. We strive to make Riverside Court a supportive and welcoming place to work, which shows in our staff service lengths.
We review our menus seasonally, taking into account feedback from the resident and relatives meetings, ensuring residents have input in the menu. Each night we have a soup option, along side another option either hot or cold to meet all preferences.
Kind regards, Kate

Mum continues to have wonderful care and support at Riverside Court. By living here we are both able to have a better quality of life. Mum is safe, well cared for and loved, which means I can feel more relaxed knowing she is so well cared for. Mum recently celebrated her 90th birthday and it was so
heartwarming to see the fuss the staff made of her. I cannot thank Riverside enough for all they do for mum and I, it is very much appreciated.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you for such a positive review! I am happy to hear that you are relaxing, knowing Mum is safe and loved. It is always a joyous occasion when we celebrate a birthday, especially a 90th, so we do love to make a fuss. Kind regards.

Riverside Court embodies the 'caring' part of a care home - which is so important for the well-being of the resident and reassurance of their family. My mum came in at very short notice for respite/convalescence from an emergency stay in hospital. We felt welcome immediately and were hugely relieved
to find somewhere where she could recover properly. Despite her considerable resilience, she needed both physical and health care and some restoration of her spirits. The warm, kind, friendly ethos of the home, shown by every member of staff, got her back on her feet and back to an independent full life again - in just a few weeks. We're hugely grateful.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you so much for your review. Mum was a delight to have stay with us and it was bittersweet to wave her goodbye, as she had become such a big part of the home in the short time she was with us. We are all so happy that she was able to return home and that she is back to her former self. Kind regards.

Very friendly staff and well-managed care home. Mum is well cared for and is as happy as it is possible for her to be now she is so frail and has lost her eyesight. It is good to know she is being well cared for and comfortable when we could not manage to look after her ourselves.

My wife was a resident at Riverside Court for 16 months. During this time she never settled or felt like it was her home. I was very disappointed with the overall quality of care and support she received during this time. Placing your loved one in the care of others is a very big leap of faith, as you
never truly know what the care home and staff are like until it's too late.
Based on my experience I can not recommend this care home.
My wife has since moved into an excellent care home that truly put their residents first, the difference is amazing, and my wife is finally happy and settled in her new home.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you for your review. I am so happy to hear that your wife is now settled and happy, that is all we strove to achieve but unfortunatley due to the nature of her Alzheimers this was not possible with us. The home is not the same without her here or without you visiting each week for your Sunday lunch. We wish you both all the best for the future. Kind regards

Mum is well looked after and cared for.
The staff are supportive of her needs and also empathise with myself during this difficult stage of life. I’m pleased that the home is not a huge residential one, as it retains a family type home.

Dad moved to Riverside Court at the start of 2024. His health was failing and sadly it was not to be a long stay. He passed away suddenly in February. He was fiercely independent and had always been resistant to the idea of a care home. But Riverside was a wonderful conclusion to a happy life. In the
circumstances, he could not have been happier and the warmth and care he received was notable. We will always be grateful.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.619)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.619) out of 10 for Riverside Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.744 for Riverside Court is calculated as follows: ( (137 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 176 Ratings = 4.744
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Riverside Court is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
