Riverside Court is a small, family-run home set on the banks of the river Ure in the heart of Boroughbridge.

It is rated as 'good' in all five areas by CQC (August 2023).

Staff take pride in providing a person-centred approach to meet all residents' needs, while the care plans reflect the individuality of each person.

All bedrooms are en-suite and residents are given the option to personalise their room to create a home-from-home environment.

Riverside Court offers nutritious home-cooked meals, using locally sourced ingredients. Menus can be individually tailored and specific dietary needs met.

The in house activities co-ordinator provides a wide range of activities to stimulate residents minds and bodies. Regular outings on either the mini-bus or boat encourage residents to awaken their senses whilst taking in the local scenery.

Mum continues to have wonderful care and support at Riverside Court. By living here we are both able to have a better quality of life. Mum is safe, well cared for and loved, which means I can feel more relaxed knowing she is so well cared for. Mum recently celebrated her 90th birthday and it was so
heartwarming to see the fuss the staff made of her. I cannot thank Riverside enough for all they do for mum and I, it is very much appreciated.

I always visit my dad on a Sunday to do the crossword with him. The staff know my routine and make sure the supplement and paper are already in his room. All the staff are very attentive to my dad's needs, which are few relatively. He is always dressed and ready for the day, well fed and medication
up-to-date. If he or I have any worries or questions, the staff are always pleased to help, or an email to The manager is usually answered within the hour.
I cannot understand why the CQC have not rated Riverside as good if not outstanding. In my opinion Riverside is a warm, friendly, well managed establishment and should be reclassified.

Riverside Court embodies the 'caring' part of a care home - which is so important for the well-being of the resident and reassurance of their family. My mum came in at very short notice for respite/convalescence from an emergency stay in hospital. We felt welcome immediately and were hugely relieved
to find somewhere where she could recover properly. Despite her considerable resilience, she needed both physical and health care and some restoration of her spirits. The warm, kind, friendly ethos of the home, shown by every member of staff, got her back on her feet and back to an independent full life again - in just a few weeks. We're hugely grateful.

Very friendly staff and well-managed care home. Mum is well cared for and is as happy as it is possible for her to be now she is so frail and has lost her eyesight. It is good to know she is being well cared for and comfortable when we could not manage to look after her ourselves.

My wife was a resident at Riverside Court for 16 months. During this time she never settled or felt like it was her home. I was very disappointed with the overall quality of care and support she received during this time. Placing your loved one in the care of others is a very big leap of faith, as you
never truly know what the care home and staff are like until it's too late.
Based on my experience I can not recommend this care home.
My wife has since moved into an excellent care home that truly put their residents first, the difference is amazing, and my wife is finally happy and settled in her new home.

Mum is well looked after and cared for.
The staff are supportive of her needs and also empathise with myself during this difficult stage of life. I’m pleased that the home is not a huge residential one, as it retains a family type home.

We are generally very pleased with the care given to both our parents in the home. Staff are mostly excellent and considerate and we appreciate they work incredibly hard to make our parent's lives as comfortable as possible in sometimes challenging situations. Staff are very cheerful and patient.

Dad moved to Riverside Court at the start of 2024. His health was failing and sadly it was not to be a long stay. He passed away suddenly in February. He was fiercely independent and had always been resistant to the idea of a care home. But Riverside was a wonderful conclusion to a happy life. In the
circumstances, he could not have been happier and the warmth and care he received was notable. We will always be grateful.

Mum has been at Riverside for nearly a year now.
Mum spent 16 weeks without a working toilet or running water in her room. They did supply a commode which was not emptied nearly enough and used to smell in her room. The task of emptying often falling to family members.
Her personal care washing
changing clothes brushing her teeth just do not happen and mum can be left dirty for hours and days.
The lunchtime meal is okay but is lacking in variety. Teatime meal is nearly always the same sandwiches night after night with a cheap dessert to follow.
The home does not have any facilities for visiting friends and family, especially in winter months when you are not able to use the garden.
Activates are very poor, they do have a mini bus but this has only been out on one occasion all year.
The manager made it sound very good, unfortunately, we feel like we have been miss-sold. Most things we were told at our initial meeting were just that, talk.

My mother spent the last year of her life at Riverside Court. It was wonderful, caring, kind, friendly and well-maintained. My mother really enjoyed the good and wholesome food. Prior to going into the home, she had become increasingly anxious due to dementia, the care home seemed to be able to make
her feel safe, and the anxiety significantly reduced. The staff were very attentive and kept me very well informed. I would thoroughly recommend this homely care home.

Our father has now been a resident at Riverside Court for 5 years, and they have continually, over that time, provided kind and caring support to Dad. We are kept fully informed of any changes, and they have been particularly fantastic recently as Dad has had a mini-stroke and a fall - both of which
they dealt with quickly, efficiently and effectively. Dad is happy and relaxed, and all the staff are friendly, helpful and have Dad's best interests at heart. We're always welcomed with a cup of tea or coffee when we visit, and it's always a pleasure to be there. The home is clean, tidy and well run, and the atmosphere is calm, happy and inviting. Very highly recommended.

I recently moved my 92-year-old relative into Riverside Court Care Home. From the onset I found the team to be friendly and accommodating, nothing being too much trouble in enabling her to settle safely into her new environment.
The residents there always look happy and content in the peaceful atmosphere.
It is a small family-run business and this is reflected in the caring homely ethos of the home. I have no hesitation in recommending Riverside Court.

Mum recently moved to Riverside Court after a stroke. She was welcomed like an old friend and without exception the staff are absolutely brilliant. They are so kind and caring but also great fun as care homes should be. As it is with every family, it is a very hard decision to move a loved one away
from their own home but Riverside Court really is the next best option. I did look at a care home which was part of a large organisation but the family environment at Riverside Court put it head and shoulder above everywhere else.
It is beautifully kept, absolutely spotless and the garden is lovely with outside seating and a summerhouse for when the weather is suitable. Visiting, within their guidelines, is never a problem with a call beforehand to book a visit.
Moving mum from her own home has been made much easier thanks to the kindness of everyone at Riverside Court.

This care home goes above and beyond expectation day in day out.
A family-run home that is run with love, compassion and most importantly dignity.
The owners are wonderful and are involved in the day to day running of the home which is just lovely to see- especially nowadays.
My nan had a lovely
room overlooking the river and enjoyed many day trips with the other residents. She was quite a private and independent lady so I was initially unsure how she would manage in a care setting, but Riverside Court really just felt like home to her and isn’t that all we really want.

A partner in the home with his wife Loren and Mother-in-Law, Carole since 1989.


Stephen has a background in the army and has been managing the home for the past 33 years.


In his own words, Stephen has always had an aim to provide a home that would be everything he would look for if it were to be for his own family.


Stephen has a very hands-on approach in the home and enjoys taking the residents on mini-bus adventures as well as making everybody laugh.


In his spare time, Stephen likes to play golf, is a keen gardener and spend time with his family.

Having started as a care assistant, Kate has experienced a variety of roles within the care sector both in residential homes for the elderly, as well as within the community.
Kate is excited to be leading the team at Riverside Court and is keen to maintain the friendly family feel that Riverside Court is known for.


Kate prides herself on being energetic and approachable with a hands on work ethic, whilst ensuring her door is always open.
