Riverside Court is a small, family-run home set on the banks of the river Ure in the heart of Boroughbridge.

It is rated as 'good' in all five areas by CQC (August 2023).

Staff take pride in providing a person-centred approach to meet all residents' needs, while the care plans reflect the individuality of each person.

All bedrooms are en-suite and residents are given the option to personalise their room to create a home-from-home environment.

Mum has been at Riverside for nearly a year now.
Mum spent 16 weeks without a working toilet or running water in her room. They did supply a commode which was not emptied nearly enough and used to smell in her room. The task of emptying often falling to family members.
Her personal care washing
changing clothes brushing her teeth just do not happen and mum can be left dirty for hours and days.
The lunchtime meal is okay but is lacking in variety. Teatime meal is nearly always the same sandwiches night after night with a cheap dessert to follow.
The home does not have any facilities for visiting friends and family, especially in winter months when you are not able to use the garden.
Activates are very poor, they do have a mini bus but this has only been out on one occasion all year.
The manager made it sound very good, unfortunately, we feel like we have been miss-sold. Most things we were told at our initial meeting were just that, talk.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you for your review of Riverside Court. We value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service. Mealtimes and activities are an important part of the day at Riverside Court, and we do our best to ensure that these are tailored to our residents. These topics are regularly discussed during resident meeting’s.
I continue to thank you for your patience surrounding the unfortunate incident regarding mum's bathroom maintenance and remind you that alternative provision was always available. Care staff continue to carry out care to each residents unique care plan, which is tailored to their needs and abilities. This is a fluid document and is always available to be discussed and altered if required.

My mother spent the last year of her life at Riverside Court. It was wonderful, caring, kind, friendly and well-maintained. My mother really enjoyed the good and wholesome food. Prior to going into the home, she had become increasingly anxious due to dementia, the care home seemed to be able to make
her feel safe, and the anxiety significantly reduced. The staff were very attentive and kept me very well informed. I would thoroughly recommend this homely care home.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you so much for all of your wonderful words. Everyone loved your mum and speaks so fondly of her! I have passed your comments on to the team, as it is lovely when their hard work is recognised. Kind regards.

Our father has now been a resident at Riverside Court for 5 years, and they have continually, over that time, provided kind and caring support to Dad. We are kept fully informed of any changes, and they have been particularly fantastic recently as Dad has had a mini-stroke and a fall - both of which
they dealt with quickly, efficiently and effectively. Dad is happy and relaxed, and all the staff are friendly, helpful and have Dad's best interests at heart. We're always welcomed with a cup of tea or coffee when we visit, and it's always a pleasure to be there. The home is clean, tidy and well run, and the atmosphere is calm, happy and inviting. Very highly recommended.
Reply from Kate Gill, Registered Manager at Riverside CourtThank you for your lovely words, Catharine. Your father is a pleasure to care for, and we look forward to many more years together! Kind regards.

I recently moved my 92-year-old relative into Riverside Court Care Home. From the onset I found the team to be friendly and accommodating, nothing being too much trouble in enabling her to settle safely into her new environment.
The residents there always look happy and content in the peaceful atmosphere.
It is a small family-run business and this is reflected in the caring homely ethos of the home. I have no hesitation in recommending Riverside Court.
Reply from Kate & Nicci, Managers at Riverside CourtThank you Rose. We always aim to make the transition into a residential home as smooth and relaxed as possible, so I am happy to hear we have! We look forward to continuing to support you both.

Mum recently moved to Riverside Court after a stroke. She was welcomed like an old friend and without exception the staff are absolutely brilliant. They are so kind and caring but also great fun as care homes should be. As it is with every family, it is a very hard decision to move a loved one away
from their own home but Riverside Court really is the next best option. I did look at a care home which was part of a large organisation but the family environment at Riverside Court put it head and shoulder above everywhere else.
It is beautifully kept, absolutely spotless and the garden is lovely with outside seating and a summerhouse for when the weather is suitable. Visiting, within their guidelines, is never a problem with a call beforehand to book a visit.
Moving mum from her own home has been made much easier thanks to the kindness of everyone at Riverside Court.
Reply from Kate & Nicci, Managers at Riverside CourtThank you so much for your kind words. We have loved welcoming your mum into the Riverside Court family!
We have passed your comments onto the team as all of our staff pride themselves on their work, so it is lovely when it is recognised.

This care home goes above and beyond expectation day in day out.
A family-run home that is run with love, compassion and most importantly dignity.
The owners are wonderful and are involved in the day to day running of the home which is just lovely to see- especially nowadays.
My nan had a lovely
room overlooking the river and enjoyed many day trips with the other residents. She was quite a private and independent lady so I was initially unsure how she would manage in a care setting, but Riverside Court really just felt like home to her and isn’t that all we really want.
Thank you all very much for all you have done and continue to do.

Our mother has been a resident since March 2021, she became a resident in the difficult circumstances of lockdown. I can only say that all the staff went above and beyond to help her adjust and settle in at what has been a very anxious time for her. The care they have shown to our mother and all the
family has been nothing short of amazing throughout, even taking the time to email pictures to us of Mum's first venture out of her room into the garden there. Any queries or questions we’ve had have been answered promptly and reassuringly. I have no doubt in my mind in recommending Riverside Court to anyone who asks me, keep up the good work and thank you from the bottom of our hearts

My mother went into Riverside Court in July 2020 during COVID. Staff at the home were very supportive towards both my mother and me during this difficult time.
We were only allowed to visit mum in the garden at that time which mum did not understand and the staff were again supportive and reassuring
with mum.
Unfortunately mum contracted COVID and the staff nursed her with care and dignity and I am pleased to say that although she is 96 years of age the excellent care they gave mum brought her through this.
Nothing is too much trouble for the care staff and the kitchen staff who I know have made tempting dishes for mum during her illness.
I am pleased to say mum is back on form and joining in the daily activities which are provided.
We are still unable to visit mum but we can see her through the window and along with the frequent photos and updates from the staff we know she is happy and well cared for.
Thanks to everyone at Riverside Court.

It is not just the home's location on the riverbank, it is not just the kingfishers nesting by the bridge, not just the character of each room but it is also the staff who go out of their way each day to make life easier to the residents. They do so with a ready smile on their face, time for a chat
is always available. At management level there is time to consider the need for new equipment to ensure the comfort of their family and from the kitchen, there is the offer of something special.
This is as good as it gets with care and safety foremost in their minds during this time of extreme concern.
Just walk into Riverside Court and you will find the warmth and care surround you like a well-fitting glove.

My mother has been a resident at Riverside for 3 years and throughout this time has been extremely well looked after and content. As a GP, I often visit care homes and can honestly say, in my experience, that the care at Riverside is second to none. As well as the lovely surroundings and personalised
care, what has particularly struck me is the excellent teamwork and communication between staff. Whenever I contact or visit, staff members have been hugely helpful, up to date and able to answer questions about my mother: how she is, where she is and what she has been doing. This, in my experience, is very special - and, as a family member, extremely reassuring. I have also been impressed by how well they have managed during the Covid pandemic - working overtime to keep residents safe, whilst not compromising on the quality of the care they provide. I strongly recommend Riverside.

From the first time we stepped in Riverside Court we knew it was the place for mum. The whole building both outside and in is very pleasant and decorated and furnished to a very good standard.
The cleanliness is exceptional. As too us the care and attention are given by the wonderful staff, most of
them have worked there for many years and are all permanent. We visit regularly and are always given a warm welcome and offered refreshments immediately.

My father lived at Riverside Court for almost two years and during his time there he was always very well cared for. His changing needs were always catered for. All the staff are marvellous, showing infinite patience, kindness, compassion and care at all times. They are always friendly and smiling and
really know the residents of this lovely, small home and their families. The home is kept spotlessly clean and in good order. A good variety of regular entertainment is provided, including trips out in the summer. A choice of good food is available at mealtimes, including delicious home-baked cakes in the afternoon; likes and dislikes are well catered for. A real 'home from home' in this family-run care home.

I visit mum here every fortnight and so happy to express my gratitude and heartfelt thank you to the most amazing owners and staff that make this gorgeous residence now my mum's permanent home.
It is a fabulous residential care establishment with a beautiful setting right by the bridge and overlooking
the river. The staff here are so personable, they are long term employees with so much empathy giving continuity of care and trained to the highest standard. Cleanliness and hygiene are spectacular! Rooms are gorgeous with ensuites and everything that anyone would need within any home environment. Activities include: arts, crafts and other recreational stimuli. Residents always come first and are encouraged to be downstairs at all times with others, meals served in the dining room are nutritious and families are included if you would like to stay and have a meal with your loved one.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.619)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.619) out of 10 for Riverside Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.744 for Riverside Court is calculated as follows: ( (137 Excellents x 5) + (33 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 176 Ratings = 4.744
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Riverside Court is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
