Behind the creation of Thornton Hill is a family story rooted in decades of care experience.
The home is led by the Managing Director whose family have worked in the care sector for over 20 years, having successfully run the award-winning Well Springs Care Home in Bradford (consistently ranked among the Top 20 Care Homes in Yorkshire for the past six years).
Life at Thornton Hill is shaped around meaningful daily experiences, with a programme of activities tailored to individual interests and abilities, with regular live musical performances - where family members are encouraged to join, gentle fitness sessions to support wellbeing and mobility, and regular day trips across Yorkshire and Lancashire so residents can experience the beauty of the region.
Included in weekly fees is all care, laundry, food, drink etc. We provide a list of items that may not be included in the weekly fee. These are things such as hairdressing and chiropody. An in-depth discussion with the owner prior to admission will ensure all fee information is understood in full.

Me and my family were incredibly skeptical of how my grandad would fare anywhere other than home. He sleeps a lot, and is often confused. However, every day when we visited - it was like we had gone back in time. He was in fine fettle, and even had a dance during a performance from a visiting entertainer! It was so lovely to feel as though we got a piece of him back. That is thanks to the care he received.

What a heartfelt review! It really was lovely to meet and help look after your grandad. He was a delight and seemed to really enjoy his time with us. The "treating someone like they are one of our own" comment perfectly encapsulates what's important to us. Whilst we may have a lovely looking home, our biggest asset is our "salt of the earth" staff who love what they do and that seems to shine through to our residents and visiting family members. I know it was a very big decision for grandad to go somewhere for respite. I am so pleased you feel Thornton Hill met and exceeded the expectations you had. We look forward to seeing him on his next stay in a few months' time.

My Father stayed at Thornton Hill for respite care in June / July this year. My dad has a number of medical issues and suffers with combination dementia. My wife and I needed a holiday but due to a lack of availability for respite care and what we felt was suitable accommodation it seemed unlikely. After speaking to Zoe and visiting the home my fears were alleviated. This home is of the highest quality, as was the care my father received. During his stay my children reported that nothing was too much trouble for the staff and my dad wanted for nothing. My dad said the staff were very helpful and kind and that the meals were excellent too, so much so that he put on a much needed 2 kgs in weight during his stay. The rooms were very comfortable, with fantastic views, and the roof terrace is a particular highlight. The staff were attentive, caring, and very professional without being patronising. From our experience I would have no hesitation in recommending Thornton Hill to others.

hello, I've been volunteering at Thornton hill care home for 6 weeks now and I've got to say this is the most loving place to volunteer for i do a lot of activities with the residents and they always have a smile on their faces, the staff are amazing with everybody always there to help everybody...

My father moved to Thornton Hill Care home in February 2026 and he was one of the first to join the newly renovated home. The home is absolutely stunning and the staff are very friendly and always ready to help with anything needed. Being able to visit at anytime makes visiting easy. It is great being able to join my father for meals if needed and I have sampled some of the food which is like going to a 5 star restaurant. My father settled in straight away and loves being well looked after. The activities and days out have kept him entertained.

After a couple of falls at home resulting in hospital stays, it became clear that my mother needed more supervision than occasional visits from carers throughout the day. Although initially nervous about moving into a residential home, she has settled in well at Thornton Hill and the care she has received has been excellent. The staff are friendly and welcoming and my mother's health has definitely improved since moving in and being so well looked after. The atmosphere is that of a family home, but set in the surroundings of a luxury hotel. This is a care home with the emphasis on caring and I would highly recommend it.

The staff cared for my grandad so attentively, always going above and beyond. We vistited with our two children (both under 5)and were welcomed with open arms - even given some bubbles, which obviously went down a treat. We were also, extremely impressed with the menus on offer and my grandad assures me it was all fabulous, varying day to day. My grandad was looked after with the upmost respect and dignity and there was always a helping hand at the home. Even when it came to fixing a technical issue with his electronic tablet, so he could still contact family who live far away. Thoroughly recommend.

Dad moved into Thornton Hill during the first week of opening. The home has been refurbished to a very high standard and it has the look and feel of a luxury hotel which has made it a welcoming environment. The restaurant is well thought out with great food and actually like eating in a restaurant. The team at Thornton Hill are friendly and supportive to both Dad and to us as relatives, keeping us informed and consulting when needed. Dad has settled in well and is really happy there, which says it all. Dad has participated in lots of activities during his time there and seems genuinely happy. This gives us as a family greater peace of mind that he is being well looked after and cared for so our visits are now mainly social visits. Well done team Thornton Hill.

My friend has taken up residence at Thornton Hill and it is a place I would recommend to anyone. The staff are all friendly and polite and offer you a drink. The home is spotless with clean towels every day and the dining room is set out for the next meal like a five star restaurant. From what my friend says the food is as good as as a five star restaurant and you are asked every day what you want from a choice of two meals on the menu. They will also change some of the menu to accommodate you. They also have an OT that comes in to help residents with activities and also make trips out. Highly recommended.

We recently moved my dad into Thornton Hill in Thornton-in-Craven just one day before his 90th birthday and I honestly can't speak highly enough of the experience so far.
Dad had been living at home but was struggling to cope so this was a big transition for all of us. From the very beginning the staff made it feel like the right decision. They welcomed him-and all of us-with open arms and even embraced his birthday celebrations which meant so much to our family.
The building itself is beautiful, warm and homely and the atmosphere is incredibly friendly more like an extended family than a care home. The staff are truly amazing nothing is ever too much trouble and they go above and beyond to make sure residents are comfortable, happy, and well cared for.There are regular trips out and activities which have really helped Dad settle in and stay engaged. One of the biggest differences we've noticed is how much better he's eating now he's clearly being well looked after.

On visiting my Aunt on numerous occasions since she became a resident I have been so impressed by the care she has constantly received. The staff are very professional yet extremely friendly and make it feel like it's a personal home environment. The food is amazing and the chefs so accommodating....
The owners have definitely given the home such a lot of consideration regarding the individual needs of their residence. They have a lovely roof terrace where they can enjoy the wonderful scenery as well as a very spacious conservatory. I enjoy visiting my Aunt and seeing her thriving in a relaxed and happy home.

Hi, I'm Ben, and I am the proud owner of Thornton Hill Care Home and Well Springs Nursing Home.
I joined my father in business in 2015, where I learnt all the roles in the home by performing them alongside our fabulous team. Eventually, I learnt how to play a leading role in running the business, with quality at the forefront of all decisions. Fast forward to 2025, when our small family business bought our second home, Thornton Hill.
I came into care because I love seeing what is possible in a world where, sadly, there are not enough lovely homes. I am involved daily across both homes and always love to meet families that want to look around. I feel lucky to be a part of such an amazing team where we have lots of staff who have stayed with us for decades.
My grandma was looked after by my incredible colleagues for 5 years of her life when she needed that extra support. I trust our staff to try their hardest and let their personalities shine, and that is why we have a lovely reputation as a business that truly cares about the elderly people who need great care.
