During my respite stay in Thornton Hill, I had the privilege of experiencing an incredibly high standard of care from
Manager, Ben & his exceptional team of staff.
As a retired Nursing Sister (including managing a Care Home), I had high expectations & every member of the team worked together to provide
an outstanding level of personalised care.
Their attention to detail was exemplary.
The newly renovated Home provides
a welcoming area with plush seating,
a quiet,well stocked library,
a beautiful sun-room-with art & craft materials, drinks & snacks area,( including a basket of bubbles for young visitors)
& the superb Hilltop Restaurant, where residents & our guests, enjoyed top-class food. Chief Celso consulted us daily regarding our preference of food, which was beautifully presented.
Our ensuite bedrooms were pure luxury & the outlook onto the gardens & hills were fantastic.
The Rooftop Terrace was a restful place to sit and soak up the stunning scenery.
Thank you, Ben & team.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThank you Shirley for your review. I am so glad you enjoyed your short stay with us and that the experience lived up to your expectations. We are thrilled that our respite option is something people are finding beneficial as it can often help after hospital stays or when primary carers are away. Whilst we have only been open 5 months we are so happy with our fabulous team of staff and how they are supporting people during their stays, whether that be for respite or permanent care. Thanks again for taking the time to leave a review.

Respite stay at Thornton Hill
My mum stayed at Thornton Hill in June for a short respite break after hip surgery at The Yorkshire Clinic.
After visiting Thornton Hill in March of this year, we were totally confident that this beautiful home would be the perfect place for mum's recovery. We had such
a lovely welcome & we had the pleasure of meeting an exceptional team of people, headed up by owner Ben & Home Manager Zoe, whose main focus was to give the best care & experience, to their guests & respite visitors, this gave me total peace of mind in making the choice of Thornton Hill.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThank you for your review. It was our pleasure to support your mum after her operation and I am pleased you got the warm welcome that Thornton Hill is quickly becoming known for. I cannot believe how quickly the first four month since opening has gone. We are really loving being part of the local community, and we know this makes a massive difference to those coming to Thornton Hill either on a permanent or respite basis. Thanks once again for your kind words and support for what we are doing.

Thornton Hill provided the most wholesome experience for our Grandad, who needed support transitioning back home after a stay in hospital.
The home was spotless, with incredible decor throughout, providing a really welcoming and comfortable environment.
The staff could not have been more accommodating
to us or him, often going out of their way to ensure he was comfortable and content, but also that we (with two small children) had a pleasant time, whenever we visited.
The restaurant had new options each day, with a plethora of meals to suit all. I am reliably informed it was excellent quality as well!
I can't recommend Thornton Hill enough to anyone considering, for a warm, comfortable and welcoming environment, with the highest levels of care.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThank you for your review. It was a pleasure to help your grandad after his time in hospital. We knew he was hesitant about what life in a care home looked like and so we were very pleased to blow his expectations out of the water. Respite after a hospital stay is becoming a regular request and it is such a joy to know we can help people that want to get well enough to get home safely. I know he is keen to come back and join us for lunch soon so you are very welcome to join him (with little ones in tow). Thanks again!

From entering the home to leaving you always have a warm welcome. The residents are very well cared for and they have daily activities on to keep them active physically and mentally. The rooms are very homely and you can make them into your own haven if you want. They have a beautiful garden and patio
area for residents and family if the weather is nice to sit out and enjoy the fresh air. I truly cannot fault the care my mum is receiving in the nursing home. Thank you Well Springs.

hello, I've been volunteering at Thornton hill care home for 6 weeks now and I've got to say this is the most loving place to volunteer for i do a lot of activities with the residents and they always have a smile on their faces, the staff are amazing with everybody always there to help everybody around
whether its big or small, everywhere is so clean, homely its absolutely perfect to have a loved one live here as it has a big restaurant with homely meals and a salon too it feels like they still have independence and confidence in going out and about, they also do lots of trips which everyone loves to go on whether its to a garden center or to a cafe in sunshine, they allow dogs which is so good for me as i have a therapy dog and she absolutely loves coming in and seeing everybody and they all love her she gets lots of fussing off everyone, the rooms are good with lovely hillside views.
i highly recommend this care home to everyone as a volunteer.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThanks Jamie-Lee. We are so lucky to have you visit so regularly. I know the residents love it when Pip joins too! We always had the vision of being a home that is truly immersed in it's surroundings and within the local community. I am so glad to see this panning out. Thank you for your time and passion for volunteering. We are very thankful for you.

My father moved to Thornton Hill Care home in February 2026 and he was one of the first to join the newly renovated home. The home is absolutely stunning and the staff are very friendly and always ready to help with anything needed. Being able to visit at anytime makes visiting easy. It is great being
able to join my father for meals if needed and I have sampled some of the food which is like going to a 5 star restaurant. My father settled in straight away and loves being well looked after. The activities and days out have kept him entertained.

My father was in fact the first resident to arrive at Thornton Hill,, I had driven past many times and seen it being renovated at that point I wasn't
looking for a carehome ..Fast forward and my father was in respite elsewhere and we was looking for a permanent place for him to stay, we made a meeting
with Ben the owner and my Father ,we cdnt believe it when we walked through the door , it was like a beautiful bespoke hotel with a gorgeous conservatory and library and restaurant, we had a tour of the beautiful renovated building and he chose his bedroom which are all individually styled ..Immediately he wanted to move there and we waited for the opening day to arrive.Ben and his team welcomed him with open arms and continue to do so.All the staff are fabulous and caring and nothing is to much trouble ,it's as near to home as you will get
I would recommend Thornton Hill to anybody looking for a good quality carehome.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThe first resident! I couldn't believe it when we could finally open our doors and welcome your dad. After a couple of falls at home resulting in hospital stays, it became clear that my mother needed more supervision than occasional visits from carers throughout the day. Although initially nervous about moving into a residential home, she has settled in well at Thornton Hill and the care she has received
has been excellent. The staff are friendly and welcoming and my mother's health has definitely improved since moving in and being so well looked after. The atmosphere is that of a family home, but set in the surroundings of a luxury hotel. This is a care home with the emphasis on caring and I would highly recommend it.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThank you for your review and kind words. I very much get the feeling that your mum trusts all the staff and has come to see them as extended family, even in such a short time. We love caring for her and she has the sweetest smile that always brightens my day. I know it was a big decision to look for residential care. The fact you travel some distance is testament to how certain you are that Thornton Hill is right for you and your mum, even though many other options were closer to home. Thank you for trusting us. We want to offer the highest standards of care possible and I am glad you can see this and see that your mum is truly loved.

My grandad stayed at Thornton Hill for three weeks respite, after a long stay in hospital.
The home is absolutely beautiful, it has a warm, welcoming and calm atmosphere. Each room in the home is well thought through, with beautiful decor, clean, open space, yet still creating a homely vibe. The bedroom
was bright and very tastefully designed, with comfort, ease of use and mod-cons accessible.
The staff cared for my grandad so attentively, always going above and beyond. We vistited with our two children (both under 5)and were welcomed with open arms - even given some bubbles, which obviously went down a treat. We were also, extremely impressed with the menus on offer and my grandad assures me it was all fabulous, varying day to day. My grandad was looked after with the upmost respect and dignity and there was always a helping hand at the home. Even when it came to fixing a technical issue with his electronic tablet, so he could still contact family who live far away. Thoroughly recommend.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThanks for the review about your grandad's care. It was a pleasure helping him after his stay in hospital. Dad moved into Thornton Hill during the first week of opening. The home has been refurbished to a very high standard and it has the look and feel of a luxury hotel which has made it a welcoming environment. The restaurant is well thought out with great food and actually like eating in a restaurant.
The team at Thornton Hill are friendly and supportive to both Dad and to us as relatives, keeping us informed and consulting when needed. Dad has settled in well and is really happy there, which says it all. Dad has participated in lots of activities during his time there and seems genuinely happy. This gives us as a family greater peace of mind that he is being well looked after and cared for so our visits are now mainly social visits. Well done team Thornton Hill.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillWe really do love caring for your dad! He is so engaged with all the activities we are doing and seems so comfortable with all the staff. It has been particularly amazing to watch him grow in confidence and get involved with the local community. I love that he won the Thornton-in-Craven Easter egg rolling competition! Thank you for trusting us to do what we do best. We will always ensure we are working to the highest standards to give your dad the care that he needs and deserves at this stage in his life.

When a loved one in my case my Father needed further support as it became obvious that enablement support packages via social services were not sufficient or indeed fit for purpose to meet his needs an unknown world of residential care presented itself.
However Thornton Hill, infact our family refer
to this as the Manor as it totally dispells any preconceived ideas you may have of a care home.
It is indeed and has the feel and look of a boutique hotel. The Owner Ben & Manager Zoe are hands on, attentive and welcome any suggestions that support any clients needs. They are extremely proactive.
The fabulous staff they have employed have obviously been selected for their very apparent skills.
The clients have the same support staff so relationships are established. Indeed the other residents or recruits as my father calls them have become our adopted family such is the atmosphere created and formed at Thornton Hill.
Go and view the facility. You are in very safe and experienced hands.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThank you for leaving such an in-depth review. Your dad has brought such positivity and humor to the home since moving in. We are learning so much about his life on the railways and his hobbies and can't wait to find out more. The staff have been recruited for their personalities and skills. It is so important to us to recruit a team and not a set of individuals so that they can enjoy each others company and enjoy their jobs. Happy staff mean happy residents and so I am overjoyed that you have picked up on this. Thank you again for your lovely comments.

My friend has taken up residence at Thornton Hill and it is a place I would recommend to anyone. The staff are all friendly and polite and offer you a drink. The home is spotless with clean towels every day and the dining room is set out for the next meal like a five star restaurant. From what my friend
says the food is as good as as a five star restaurant and you are asked every day what you want from a choice of two meals on the menu. They will also change some of the menu to accommodate you. They also have an OT that comes in to help residents with activities and also make trips out. Highly recommended.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThank you for your lovely review and kind words. We are happy to hear your experiences when coming to Thornton Hill have been very positive. I cannot express how wonderful if feels to visit my grandad in such a relaxed, welcoming and informal environment. The staff take time to get to know you personally as the residents family members, and welcome the family on mass for special occasions - even the noisy younger family members! Staff are
attentive, open to suggestions and promptly take on feedback. I feel so much more at ease knowing my grandad is safe, settled and enjoying the company of fellow residents and their visitors. I look forward to visiting soon and taking advantage of the summer sunshine on your roof terrace! Thank you for all you do.

We recently moved my dad into Thornton Hill in Thornton-in-Craven just one day before his 90th birthday and I honestly can't speak highly enough of the experience so far.

Dad had been living at home but was struggling to cope so this was a big transition for all of us. From the very beginning the staff

made it feel like the right decision. They welcomed him-and all of us-with open arms and even embraced his birthday celebrations which meant so much to our family.

The building itself is beautiful, warm and homely and the atmosphere is incredibly friendly more like an extended family than a care home. The staff are truly amazing nothing is ever too much trouble and they go above and beyond to make sure residents are comfortable, happy, and well cared for.
There are regular trips out and activities which have really helped Dad settle in and stay engaged. One of the biggest differences we've noticed is how much better he's eating now he's clearly being well looked after.

Reply from Ben Redhead, Owner at Thornton HillThank you for this lovely review. We are really enjoying looking after your dad and he is such a fabulous character. My Dad was moved to Well Springs following many weeks in hospital, for end of life care. We requested Well Springs because my Mother-in-law had lived there before dying 8 years ago. To say it was like going home and seeing old family friends is testament to the culture, management and truly amazing
care team, many of whom recognised us and made us feel so welcome.

The care, compassion and dignity shown to Dad was second to none. Following the handover from hospital we were told by the senior carer that she had never seen anyone in such a state and she spent considerable time ensuring Dad was comfortable, clean and not in pain.

Every single member of staff on entering the room touched Dad's shoulder, explaining who they were and what they were there to do - showing him the respect he so deserved and had none of in hospital. We could visibly see the tension in his body disappear and he relaxed. Nothing was too much trouble.

Thankfully Dad passed away in the best possible place.

Reply from Sue Walsh, Registered Manager at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words. It really was like seeing old friends when you came through the door and we are so glad to have been able to care for your Dad in his final hours. I wish we had the chance to get to know him better and I am relieved that he was able to relax and be treated with the dignity and respect that he deserved. It was obvious that our staff think of you and your family fondly and we were so glad that we could help allay your stress and worries and support you all on this difficult journey.

My Dad spent just over 3 weeks at Thornton Hill following a long stay in hospital.
During that time all the staff were so welcoming, friendly and professional.
Dad was happy there and felt like part of the family. He felt safe, respected and well cared for.
The home is beautifully decorated with so much
attention to detail .It feels like a high end hotel and has lots of areas including a conservatory and library ,ideal places to relax or chat to fellow residents.
On a warm day the roof terrace is a perfect spot to have a cup of tea and take in the amazing views.
The food is wonderful and the chef goes above and beyond to try accommodate and special requests.

Our mum was cared for under palliative care at Well Springs for the last month of her life. The care staff and managers were outstanding. From the first phone call when Joe assured me that he would sort everything out, we felt confident that our mum had the best care by staff who truly understood the
meaning of 'holistic' care. Nothing was too much trouble and care was never just about the physical tasks that needed to be done. The staff cared for both our mum and us and took the time to understand our situation and support us all emotionally and psychologically. Thank you for treating our mum with dignity and respect in her last days and allowing us some rest bite in safe assurance that her care was excellent. Thank you

I would like to thank Sue Walsh and her team for the excellent care and support they gave to my Aunt during her short stay at Well Springs. Nothing was too much trouble and she was treated with care, compassion and love by all of the staff.
I have no hesitation in recommending Well Springs to anyone
looking for an excellent nursing home.
My Aunt was in hospital and had to be moved to a care home which had 24 hour care at short notice.
I was impressed by the facilities and the care the staff took in showing me the facilities and the rooms that were available. At all times Sue and the staff were very professional and filled me with confidence. Sue also helped me with the discussions with the Council.
On arrival my Aunt was visited by several members of the team everything was explained and great care was take to make sure she was made comfortable. The standard of cleanliness and quality of food was excellent and the staff were outstanding and dedicated to supporting my Aunt .
