I like that there was always lots of activities. I enjoyed the company of the other residents and there was a nice atmosphere in the care home. The staff were helpful and friendly. I enjoyed the meals, but would have liked hot meals to be hotter.
I stayed at Abbotsfield for two weeks respite care.

I brought my mam to Abbotsfield Care Home for two weeks respite care. She was welcomed by staff with a cuppa and a chocolate bar. When I visited her she always seemed happy and remembered activities that she had been involved in.
When I picked her up at the end of her stay, she was not wearing her
hearing aids, and I'm unsure if she was consistently helped to put her hearing aids in each day.
Reply from Kim Rogerson, Director at AbbotsfieldThank you for taking the time to leave a review following your Mum's respite stay at Abbotsfield Care Home.

We are delighted to hear that she was made to feel welcome from the moment she arrived and that she enjoyed taking part in activities during her stay. It is lovely to know that she appeared happy and settled, and we are pleased that our team could provide a warm and friendly environment for her respite visit.

We also appreciate you raising your concern regarding your Mum's hearing aids. Supporting residents with personal items such as hearing aids is an important part of daily care, and your feedback has been shared with the team so that we can review this and ensure appropriate support and checks are consistently in place.

Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome your Mum back to Abbotsfield again in the future.

This was my mother's first experience of a care home for a short temporary stay. She was very anxious on arrival, the staff introduced themselves and tried to make her feel more at ease straight away, did settled very quickly.
Her food intolerances were established and then enquiries were made into
what she enjoyed to eat. There was never any issue when she was taken out and stayed away for tea.
It put my mind at rest she was safe and looked after by a caring team.

I came to visit my friend's mam who is staying for 2 weeks' respite care. I was pleasantly surprised by the home, the way it was run, the cleanliness, the way the residents were treated and the sheer amount of activities and nice things going on each day. This is important to keep the residents' brains
active. Some of the ladies were proud to show off their painted nails! Keep up the good work.

The staff are wonderful, happy to be there, happy to help, and they genuinely care for their residents. I can see that the staff are tailoring the care for individuals. Lots of time and attention are dedicated to entertaining and stimulating the residents. Families are actively encouraged to join in

Mum is well looked after. Activities are well organised, and a variety of options are available.
Televisions in the bedrooms - there is an absence of remote controllers, it is difficult to work out how to use the television.

We are obviously very anxious about our dad coming into Abbotsfield. We need not have worried at all. The staff are thorough and efficient, caring, kind and attentive. Our dad is happy, relaxed and safe. A home from home. It is a clean, beautiful building with a fantastic mix of residents. Dad joins
in the activities and is much more sociable than he ever was at home on his own. Thank you to the Abbotsfield staff, you have made our family a much happier one!

Overall, I am delighted with the care support my mum receives. The staff are loving and caring, and we are made to feel part of the family. All the staff are very welcoming and you always feel like nothing is too much trouble.
The food always seems varied and nutritious. Abbotsfield is well maintained
and always spotlessly clean. Mum's room is lovely and has a nice view, but it would be nice if the walls were more colourful. Cannot thank the devoted staff enough. The entertainment, trips and celebration days are fantastic.

Today was such a sad day as my dad who was a resident here for last 18mths with dementia had to move on to a Nursing Home. My mother was a resident here from May 2023 until her death in January 2025. The care she received from the staff was second to none, especially during the last 2 months of her life when she required palliative end-of-life care. Two sensor staff and three other staff came to her funeral church service.
They showed my mam and our family genuine care and support, as did the local manager at the home. Nothing was too much trouble.

After a very challenging time, I would like to thank the staff of Abbotsfield Care Home for their care and compassion for my aunt. Living several hours away, it is difficult to see her as much as I wish I could, but the staff have been excellent in keeping me updated with any changes. On my latest visit,
I found her clearly well cared for and content. The staff of Abbotsfield have done an amazing job managing long-term health issues in addition to more challenging new ones, and I feel they always consider my aunt's health and well-being in everything they do. Many thanks.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.714)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.714) out of 10 for Abbotsfield is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.739 for Abbotsfield is calculated as follows: ( (171 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 222 Ratings = 4.739
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbotsfield is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
